Today's 8:45 PM tide is 4.8 feet, the PM tides will continue to rise slowly to the July 8 4.9 feet high tide a day after the full moon on July 7th.

FWIW..the photo album on capecodonline.com incorrctly lists the date of the photos as 5/14/08.

BTW are you related to the Hannah of "Hannah's and her mud snails" a science project at the WH School of Science? Wrong age cohert I think but you never know? Will figure this out!

What closed the beach on 30 May was the first nest. Between that date and the 15th of June access was only for Camp Owners/Licensees. After that date other chicks were hatched. So the date to use is not the 30th of May but the date of the last nest hatching out which is after I think the 20th of June.

Perhaps Orleans Parks & Beaches can post an update?

Thanks C.W. What I'm trying to figure out here is if the Pochets were ruined by the storm. From what you say, I would guess that they were ok, except for maybe that fifth one. Hopefully that is the case, and #5 will be in an area that we can go around. Also, the chicks that closed the beach on May30 must be ready to fly. Any info is always appreciated.

The attached album is not from yesterday but from 14 May 09. The only contemporary picture is the one of the F/C Camp being maneuvered at Ryder's Cove. Where it will 'rest' on the abutting TOC parcel for a while.

As for the plovers, as I understand it from a phone call last week to OP&B, four active nests with chicks not yet fledged. A possible fifth pair trying to rest nest. Last summer we didn't get back ORV access until third week in July (7/23).

Today's CC Times Online has a story about the camps, and an attached photo album from yesterday of the camp moved to Ryders Cove and the remaining camps at the tip.

Isn't that always the question, how many and how are the Pochet Plovers. This bunch of plovers seems to have it's own skull and bones society, everything's a secret.

The crane has to drive off the beach. It has no way to get on and off the barge and even if it could, it's too big for it. I was out at the island yesterday but couldn't see the end of the beach due to the fog. I'm heading out now and I'll take a look.

Thadd and others as I understand it the ConComm emergency order expires on 1 July.

Bill, that is a good question. I went to Scatteree today and could not see over with all the fog, so hopefully they got some good work done out there. I see no reason they cannot extend the stay though, as long at the crane has a means off the beach. I guess the important question is how are those plovers at Pochet doing? If they are still frazzled over the storm (just like the rest of us) then an extension makes sense. However, if they got busy (litterally and figuratively), then perhaps the crane can catch a ride on the barge. Best case, they are done tomorrow and can meet the deadline.

Does anyone have new word on permissions or moves? Glad this sad, gray and dreary month is almost over. Tonight's 7:49 PM high tide is slated to be 4.9 feet. As a backsliding Unitarian I cant quote scripture but like Steve's quoted below.

Today's 7:20 AM tide 4.9 feet, 7:49 PM tide 4.9 feet. Hopefully any vulnerable camps will be moved back before the 4th of July boating weekend. Unfortunately we still have another week of these high course tides. The tides may also resolve the contentious property issues. If present conditions continue TOC may be the only property owner by the end of summer.

Follow the link to his well thought out and written discussion on the Cap and Trade bill. Than get ready to pay a lot more money for many of the things we purchase daily. In my opinion, the Cap and Trade bill is a fairly substantial tax bill disguised as an environmental bill.

The theory of the bill and some of the goals are laudable but I have a great concern over the timing of the bill at this point in the economy.

As in Massachusetts, (25% increase in sales and meals taxes 1 August, plus now all alcoholic will be subject to sales taxes onto of the excise tax we have been paying for that sin) the federal government should not be trying to raise taxes in a down economy. But should be looking to reduce expenses and costs, so that tax increases are not fostered upon the citizens the majority of them battered by the economy.

Plus the incredible rush to get this passed, in a manner that many in congress did not have time to read the bill, in fact I've been told many republicans were not even given a copy of the bill until just before it came up.

Not sure who this Robert Kelly is, but I assume he is not a scientist. However, I happen to agree with the economic argument that there is probably nothing we can do today that is going to decrease the amount of sea level rise we will have to deal with in the next hundred years. That is why it is so important figure out how to adapt to sea level rise. This is what a lot of old Cape Codders have been doing for generations! I agree let's move on!
