Well I loved CBI when I was a kid, and right up to about ,oh what was it 10 or 15 years ago? I went there once or twice after the redo and then again last summer, and it just was not for me and I heard a lot of muttering from the locals. Like I said, I like things the way they were, and I guess I am a LUDDITE. Have some great old photos from the late 50's early 60's of me and family in one of the little cottages and Mom loved it there, but Dad wanted to get over to the beach and we would take the boat over to the beach and then head down in an old Model T and or old Scout that we left over there and put the supplies in it and then go down the beach to get away from America : )
Now, sadly, my best friend just died and I need to take care of things.
Take care everyone and CHERISH THE MOMENT!
Hannah

OH, I agree....let's move on. My brother has always been able to take care of himself, no worry, but I am the eldest so I "feel like the mother" if you know what I mean.I came to his defense as I felt he would not. No bad feelings about CBI since the man who built my home in 1888 also worked on the building of CBI. It is Chatham's lily, so to speak. Peace and good wishes.

Hi NanByTheSea
I get my haunches up when people want to change things and a way of life. Now while I am for the housebarges. I am more for them, because so many that come *down for the summah* and rip down the old homes to build ugly mansions, and KNEW that the barges were a part of the scene, when they bought, want them now removed,as it is spoiling their view. I don't know one family that lives out in the harbor in the summer that is not a year rounder,or was a summer kid that went to science school in WH. You are a good sister, but I should think your brother should be able to take care of himself, but maybe not against me ; ) You must dislike the CBI as much as I do... ACK! As for commercial fishermen, well I definitely have a soft spot for them. I married one. : ) So to round it up, you seem like a very nice person, and your brother must be as well. So lets just move on: ) OH DIFFICULT AND STAUNCH...

I much prefer talking to OH about crane diving!
You can feel free to chose whatever expert you want. I just wouldn't want to bet my house on the belief that global warming is a scam.

C.W...Robert Kelly sums up my sentiments perfectly.
"The urgency for cap and trade was originally based upon the noble objective to save the planet from the ravages of global warming, as outlined by Al Gore. Notice: "global warming" isn't mentioned anymore. The buzz words these days are "climate change" and "environmental concerns." There is a reason for this. Evidence mounts daily that mankind (fossil fuels/carbon monoxide/greenhouse gases) is not responsible for climate change, and that warming observed is cyclical and natural -- that Goreology is junk science.."

I agree with Bob and Thadd re: Global Warming.
OH, I feel I must come to the defense of RSR, my brother. He started working at the Chatham Fish Pier at 10 years of age, his hip boots almost larger than he. He fished commercially as an adult out of Chatham for years, owning several wooden fishing boats. His occupation has taken him all over the world on ships of various sizes. Now his occupation brings him back to working for the Town of Chatham on the water. No,......he is not one to oppose traps and gear in the yard....our father commercial fished out of Chatham for over 50 years. Our camp on North Beach was destroyed in 1991.All he said was that one barge in his lifetime was enough.I agree.

Robert Kelly, sums it up for me, as he writes about the Cap and Trade bill, as follow: "The urgency for cap and trade was originally based upon the noble objective to save the planet from the ravages of global warming, as outlined by Al Gore. Notice: "global warming" isn't mentioned anymore. The buzz words these days are "climate change" and "environmental concerns." There is a reason for this. I never said I dove off the crane ; ) I remember the huge parties especially every July 4TH and how all would tie up, off Cavanaughs or Clark's barge, this was before the days of the houseboats, although many on the harbor lived on old wrecks of once beautiful wooden boats and Chris Crafts and old Coast Guard boats, and really would just put in an anchor. There still are parties of course, but the *kids* these days don't know how to do it up like we did ; ) Now we usually do Hadley or Cuttyhunk on the 4TH and are one of only a handful of wooden boats in their harbors. RSR Hmmmm, you really should go to museums more, just because YOU have not seen a painting, with that theme, pretty arrogant of you. I don't believe however that I said they were works of art, however I do like them and find pleasure in and on them. I never felt my view was spoiled by the house boats, just added to the whole scene. Oh and lets not get into lineage and I didn't think I was going that way. Perhaps you are one that feels a fisherman should not have their traps or gear exposed on their property as it is so uncouth, but a buoy or a trap as decoration would be apropos. OH

I've been suggesting the hull idea to all the campowners since 2006. Unfortunately, the hull needs to be substantial enough to withstand some wave abuse. I contacted a custom white water rafting company and a raft for a camp would only run $90k. It would do the trick, but the expense is a little overwhelming. As far as global warming: This is not the first of these cycles, nor will it be the last, correct? The CCT had an article six months ago about the breach where a scientist stated that this breach was not the direct result of 'global warming'. To be honest, I was miffed, but not surprised that the title of the latest Sargent novel linked 'global warming' to a historic cyclical erosion/accretion process. Go visit the Natual History Museum in Brewster and see their sea level rise display. Then go to Nantucket Sound and pull up some mammoth bones as they would have been on dry land back during the ice age. If 'global warming' is true, then why is this the coldest June I have ever experienced? How about the winter of 2003/2004 where we had over five feet of frost in these parts? I believe that 'global warming' is a scam initiated by and propogated by scientists who want grants to study a normal phenomenon that has been mildly exacerbated by human involvement.

R Walton, Thanks,
When I was out there 5 days before the storm the camp was sitting on about a four foot high deeply scarped dune. It looked like each tidal cycle was removing at least 3 feet of sand. From R. Walton's shot it looks like high tides are now just washing up against the side of the camp. I'm afraid the other camps are in about the same situation.

Nope, HOH, "Hey Old Hannah, Hi Old Hannah, Oh So Old, So Hannah High"
Of course I attended the Devil's Foot parties! But never dove off the crane sans bathing suit! F/C may be way ahead of the curve. In Amsterdam they design new houses with a hull underneath so they can easily move the house to adapt to sea level rise. Perhaps Obama should take a side trip from his rumored vacation in Oak Bluffs to sign his new climate bill in Chatham!
