Book you want is Beauport by Samuel Chamberlain who did lots of books way back when on early houses. --- On Tue, 11/24/09, QT - bill sargent <qtopic-41-RxRXkSaBEEwdx@quicktopic..com> wrote:

Well I am done baking and cooking for tomorrow. Made two trays of baklava, cranberry apple walnut pie, blueberry pie, chestnut stuffing, stuffed eggs and seven layer salad.. AND I am not even doing this for dinner at home, but for my cousin, as he got married and bought a house and wants to do dinner for the first time, BUT wanted me to make some things : )
Last Turkey Day we spent out the beach and it was great. Dogs went hunting in the morning, then I cooked a turkey in a tin oven in the fireplace, and then pups went out again to get the ducks in the afternoon with hubby.. It was a very mellow and back to old time time..I really could have lived in another time.
WIsh I could be out at the shack tomorrow but have to do the family dinner thing up in New Hampshire, SUCH A LONG RIDE!!
Hopefully next week I will get out the beach next week.
Want to wish everyone a good Thanksgiving, and enjoy the day!!

Odo must not be that good a guide, everytime I try his site it knocks me off my safari!

You shouldn't be getting knocked off as you have 10.6.1 I think, right. If not do a software update.
Also maybe clear your Safari cache, and you should have at least 4.0 and now you can update to 4.0.4.
Do you know how to do such? If not let me know.

NOt sure why you get knocked off. Do you have a SLOW connection,or dial up, : ( at your house? As you should be able to watch a video and listen to a music video..

As for Odo, well he is very ,very interesting... Someday I will figure it out...

Gobble Gobble almost!

Nothing but big thick Chatham fog. Didn't know you could empty Safari cache. Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving!

I offer up to be consumed two Thanksgiving thoughts.

The first in this post is to Ms. Hanna, perhaps old by name but whose soul is young as the incoming tide.

When Father Carves the Duck

We all look on with anxious eyes
When father carves the duck,
And mother almost always sighs
When father carves the duck;

Then all of us prepare to rise,
And hold our bibs before our eyes,
And be prepared for some surprise,
When father carves the duck.

He braces up and grabs a fork
Whene'er he carves a duck,
And won't allow a soul to talk
Until he's carved the duck.

The fork is jabbed into the sides,
Across the breast the knife he slides,
While every careful person hides
From flying chips of duck.

The platter's always sure to slip
When father carves a duck,
And how it makes the dishes skip!
Potatoes fly amuck!

The squash and cabbage leap in space,
We get some gravy in our face,
And father mutters a Hindoo grace
Whene'er he carves a duck.

We then have learned to walk around
The dining room and pluck
From off the window-sills and walls
Our share of father's duck.

While father growls and blows and jaws
And swears the knife was full of flaws,
And mother laughs at him because
He couldn't carve a duck.

The second is from John Greenleaf Whittier.

And with that I offer my own humble wish for a Happy Thanksgiving to all, for some the year has brought loss and tragedy, for that we're not Thankful for, but the special thoughts and prayers to those that did loose we are Thankful for.

To others we and others continue to be Thankful for what we have as we have seen all too true this year that when its gone its gone.

The Pumpkin

Verses 3-5

Ah! on Thanksgiving day, when from East and from West,
From North and from South comes the pilgrim and guest;
When the gray-haired New Englander sees round his board
The old broken links of affection restored;
When the care-wearied man seeks his mother once more,
And the worn matron smiles where the girl smiled before;
What moistens the lip and what brightens the eye,
What calls back the past, like the rich Pumpkin pie?

Oh, fruit loved of boyhood! the old days recalling,
When wood-grapes were purpling and brown nuts were falling!
When wild, ugly faces we carved in its skin,
Glaring out through the dark with a candle within!
When we laughed round the corn-heap, with hearts all in tune,
Our chair a broad pumpkin,---our lantern the moon,
Telling tales of the fairy who travelled like steam
In a pumpkin-shell coach, with two rats for her team!

Then thanks for thy present! none sweeter or better
E'er smoked from an oven or circled a platter!
Fairer hands never wrought at a pastry more fine,
Brighter eyes never watched o'er its baking, than thine!
And the prayer, which my mouth is too full to express,
Swells my heart that thy shadow may never be less,
That the days of thy lot may be lengthened below,
And the fame of thy worth like a pumpkin-vine grow,
And thy life be as sweet, and its last sunset sky
Golden-tinted and fair as thy own Pumpkin pie!

Another light Chatham fog. Expect another El Nino induced coastal storm with moderate winds on Friday and saturday. Tides still 4.5 feet expect slight to moderate erosion.

EL NINO AND STORMS: (With apologies to Bill Ryan) In general during non-cyclical and La Nina years, masses of cold air bulge out of Canada forcing storms further south. During El Ninos cold air stays North so fronts are able to sweep straight across the Continent.

Specifically, during El Ninos, lows form over the Gulf of Mexico then travel north. When they arrive over Cape Hatteras and another low is over the Great Lakes it sets the scene for a coastal storm to pound the east coast and threaten Cape Cod about three to four days later. That is situation we have had all Fall and can expect this winter as long as this El Nino lasts. Nauset Beach is already as battered as it would be at the end of winter during a normal year, so we can expect cumulative damage from moderate to severe erosion throughjout the Winter and into the Spring. Thanks for your pieces CWR and Bon dandong all!

Just got back from my annual Thanksgiving morning beach ride. Nice to see so many folks out there, even if it was mostly surfers! Quite often I've been the only one down.

The tradition all started over 30 years ago when Bub Sears used to come over to the house for breakfast early every Thanksgiving morning. My mother would fix us a nice breakfast and get us out of the house so she could get some cooking done for the big feast later in the day. Of course, this was before any breaches so a beach ride could take a couple hours.

Bubby is long gone but remembered fondly. Breakfast has moved to H&K. It now takes longer to air down, air up, and hose off the jeep than it does to get from the parking lot to the point and back. But I need to do my part to make sure my boys (now 14 and 15) have nice memories of days gone by 30 years from now.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the reminder Bob..some of my fondest memories took place on the beach when the O'Connell's would celebrate Thanksgiving with the Homers. Those Thanksgivings were the best ever. My kids still talk about the different things that happened over the years. Some of which will remain a secret. I will always remember you, your Dad and Bub stopping by to say hi and Bub having just "1" Subaru. Always saying " just 1 before I go Joe".
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

They were the best. I remember playing deck hockey w/ Matt Homer. How they would pick gram up ad bring her out for us. I would have my Hormel Chili for Thanksgiving dinner. There was always the prime rib Friday night dinner.

Difficult to see through the raindrops, but substantial waves. Expect moderate erosion with high NW winds and 4.5 foot tides today and tomorrow.

Fog has lifted. All camps standing and stable. N/B Isaland point has grown north so now the apparent width of the inlet is about 500 or so feet.
