I've been trying to do the Captives Set Free program but I need an accountability partner. I'm on like day 21. Is there a forum for that where I might be able to hook up with someone?

Thank you Sue. That answered my question, and concerns. I too have some health problems, and am nursing, so I didn't think I could do the SCF one. Yes, I do have the book, I just didn't know which plan to do.

Hi sp--in the front of the WOM study book it goes through the strategy plan for success and the fourth choice is your food program! It goes through four options of eating plans to choose from. As Dee says in the book, you need to choose a healthy eating plan that you can live with for the rest of your life. From what I have been reading in the messages, it seems as though some people start out with one plan and by the end they seem to want to progress on to another one. Setting Captives Free is the first one mentioned in the book and strongly endorsed by Dee, the others follow.
I have some health problems and I decided to follow eating the 3 meals a day with a small snack if needed and fasting on one of my days off at lunch. I also pray before I eat for God to guide my eating and to listen to my body as to when it feels full and to take smaller portions than I use to, and not to let food be the master of me but me the master of the food I eat, and not to focus on the food so much. I'm still working on the eating slowly, moderately, thankfully and with delight part but I'm getting better at it, it takes time, this summer was my second time around, but you need to stay focused on God and how He is helping you through the program--Warmly Sue--(You can also download the first chapter of the book at Dee's web site if you don't have the book yet!)

I think that by hearing the whole sermon, it would have helped clarify a few of our questions about what the Pastor meant but we don't have that advantage here. I'm thinking that this quote struck a cord in my heart because I have become a stronger person from doing the study and it has changed me inside. By doing the scriptures and depending on God to guide my eating it was such a freeing feeling that it has spilled over to other areas of my life. I feel stronger now to say, for instance, that I don't want to settle for less than I want, as in wanting a black 3/4 length coat for the winter and I won't settle for anything else if I'm out shopping and can't find what I want. And if God blesses me with finding that coat great, but I won't buy something else just to have a new winter coat and settle for less than what I really wanted and then being not pleased with what I bought.(which is what I probably would have done before) At this time of my life I feel strong enough to say I'll wait till I find the coat I really want or God changes my heart and I find a coat I like better than the one I initallly had in mind. I have most of the time settled for something I really didn't want and not been strong enough to speak up or was trying to please someone else. But the Lord has used the strength I've gained from doing WOM for the good and in a nice way I now can say no to things and not feel it's wrong or angry about it. I've learned also to settle for less and not feel anxious about things most of the time. My favorite verse is Psalm 143:8 Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul. I have prayed this for years and my Shepherd has led me along these years, on the path of life. All He wants is me and He is faithful to those who love Him. OH MY, I really did go on, sorry this is so long, but that is the way I was using that quote and I guess I really don't make goals in life, it's just enough for me to get through a day that it's enough for me now, so all I really have are small wants at this time and for me now to feel stronger and really knowing what I want is such a change for me and a blessing from God at this time. Also Dee our group is doing Covenant by Kay Arthur and it fits right in with all the things about David and Jonathan in the Friendship study I can put them all together and it's so exciting to learn how they all fit together. Thanks for listening--Sue

Yes, Anne King. You are right -- we may want the wrong things. We need to pray for God's desires to fill our hearts. Often we know if what we want is wrong because of the wonderful plumbline of Scripture. I often pray God will give me the desires of my heart, and by that I mean, that He will put His desires in my heart.

I am extremely leary of not settling for less that what I WANT.A0; What if what I want is not what God wants,A0; not matter how lofty my goal may appear to me.A0; I am struggling right now withA0;accepting not getting 'a want' andA0;am trying trying very hard to deal with the fact that either my timing is not His or I am just where I am supposed to be.A0; I am so afraid my want is to tied to my pride.. am I making sense?A0;A0; A0; As far a being a WOM.. He will want that for us and it is desire that will be met if we really do want it (that word again), but to my way of thinking , only because it so closely aligns with how and who he wants us all (men and womanA0;alike) to be. Good question -- the way I interpreted it is that the deepest part of us wants to love God and be loved by God -- but other things get in the way, blocking that, tripping us. We want to love Him more than food, we want to be women of moderation more than we want that bag of potato chips -- that's what the deepest part of us wants, so we shouldn't settle for less.
What's your take?

Hi Dee, a while back, someone said that their Pastor said in a sermon, not to settle for anything less than what you want and I have been thinking on that comment since I read it and you did comment that you liked the comment also. Could you expound on that comment a little so I can see if I'm understanding and using it the right way in my life. She did say she wanted to be a WOM and I also want to be a WOM in all areas of my life and she did say that she wouldn't settle for anything less than to be a WOM, and I do get that part, but how far can we carry that comment into our daily lives and how we live and our expectations we have of things in our life and not settleing for less than what we want. I guess I kind of get hung up on the want part or maybe I'm taking it the wrong way! Anyway, would like your comment on the way we should take the quote. Sorry I don't remember the person or the month it was in --Thanks Sue

sbaier,
My heart goes out to you. Over 20 years ago we lost our home and my husband was also out of work. What I want to tell you though we don't know the details of how God will come to your aid, I can tell you He will just as He did for us. My daughter who is now 23 and was 6 at the time, wrote a little song. It goes like this" Our God will take care of us in our time of trouble,He is no respecter of persons, He will answer all our prayers, So do not be afraid, He our King and our God. He did take care of us at that time and He will take care of you. Please know that I am praying for you. I understand what you mean by feeling lost and forgotten. One day, more recently, I was feeling the very same way, and God reminded me of what my husband always said to our children ; "if you are lost just stand still and daddy will find you." So literally cry out to God and He will find you. Remember you may feel lost but from His perspective He knows right where you are. Please do get into Setting Captives Free, it is a wonderful gift to help us. Oleta

I've been reading the posts quite frequently and love how God is working through each of our lives. I did WOM the first time (Jan-April) and after that I enrolled in Setting Captives Free program. That course is the bomb! To all who have not enrolled, I cannot say enough good things about it but please find out for yourself and take advantage of this free online course. It has revealed things about myself that in my flesh I would prefer remain uncovered, but exposing them and peeling them off has been freeing. I'm still on the journey as I'm on Day 45, but as hard as it has been, it just keeps getting better and better. I thank the Lord equally for Midday Connection, Dee Brestin, Mike Cleveland and all you wonderful ladies who are journeying together!

Well yesterday I had a horrilbe day not with eating, but with some personal issues with family and work. However I did not run to food until it was time to eat dinner and then I did not snack! Yeah! I was reading John Piper's book A Hunger For God...awesome! I also had the most lovely evening enjoying my children...something I have struggled to do because my mind was always thinking of something else, especially food. We put a puzzle together and I really connected with them. I am not sure how my eating habits play into all of this, but I honestly feel that somehow they have. I usually would rent a dvd, plop myself in front of the tv with a 4th meal or chips and ice cream until I stuffed myself to sleep. I had absolutely no desire to do that!!!! Not that there is anything wrong with a dvd....I think my priorities are just shifting is all. I am holding on tight to God. I wanted to share with all of you.
