Dear People who are looking for accountability partners:
Here are my qualifications. I am abstinent, which means I have control over indulgences and unwise food choicesand eat healthily.
It has come over a long time, partly through twelve step programs and partly through a lot through health worries.
I can testify that success and freedom from this bondage is possible but do not think it is quick. It is one day at a time and often one thing at a time.
I am retired and live in Chicago so I got time.
If I can be of use to anyone, I woulld be glad to help.
I believe food abuse is a very respectable form of addiction compared to booze etc. Ergo very good people tend to get stuck in it.
But freedom is definitely possible. If you want it.
My e mail address is margaretohara@webtv.net

Last year I worked with an awana class teaching teens at our church, and now work with teens in sunday school, our church got some new Bibles for our teens and the student life application Bible was our choice, even though I will be 40 this month, i have found i really like it even though its geared toward teens. You might want to try it or the Life Application Bible, I like the NLV versions in these 2 Bibles.

Peggy, Addiction is addiction, to me very good people get stuck in all kinds... Having said that, you are so blessed to have come to the point you are at in this. And I ask you to pray that we all who continue to struggle, so A0;can know what you know and gain the self-control you know. --- On Mon, 10/6/08, QuickTopic daily digest <qtopic-41-MGbvmRgRTme@quicktopic.com> wrote: From: QuickTopic daily digest <qtopic-41-MGbvmRgRTme@quicktopic.com> Subject: Women of Moderation Study To: akking100@yahoo.com Date: Monday, October 6, 2008, 11:26 PM

This gal wrote to me via my website and I thought it was encouraging to all of us in this walk!
Dee, I just had to write to let you know what a blessing I received from "A Woman of Moderation." I ordered the book online after hearing of it on Moody Radio. I am 65 years old, obese(was), and had a strong addiction to carbohydrates. I had poor health as a result. I have been living with lots of pain over the last 30 years, and was trying to relieve myself from the hurt by eating whenever I was experiencing anxiety. I would pray for God's help in controlling my eating, and as soon as I said "Amen," I would go right to the pantry for a cookie, followed by the entire bag. I tried every diet ever written, and they all worked for a couple of weeks, then my Soul Hunger would overcome them and I would binge. Bingeing controlled me for 30 years. Physical hunger had nothing to do with my overeating. The Moderation study clicked the first day. I didn't know what Soul Hunger was until God satisfied it with my first Psalm Meal. Since then (7 weeks ago), my soul is FEASTING with Him daily and I am not controlled by the food addiction any longer. I am FREE. I am facing emotional hurts and physical pain with Someone who can actually heal and help me--not with food which was only a distraction. For me, the greatest help was the memory work. When I would say (dozens of times a day) "Sin is crouching at my door. It desires to have me, but I must master it." the power was there to grab a "Psalm Snack", and I would go on my way rejoicing, and knowing I was not walking alone.! Pamela

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I am almost done with week 2 in the WOM, and am really being attacked. I have had some great talks with God, but now am back in the food. I am so focused on the food, which plan to do, etc. I keep going back and forth. Also, I just went to the chiropractor, and she told me to get off sugar for 8 weeks because of an infection I have growing in my body. The first thing I did, was eat a bunch of candy. Every time I think about what I can/cannot have, I just eat everything. Do you think I should heed the advice, and fast it unto the Lord, or should I just forget it and work on eating everything in moderation? Either way, I just want to get my mind off the food, because that's not where our focus should be. HELP!

Yes, the sugar is driving you to eat more food and more sugar. If you can stay away from it for four days and drink more water that will help you not to crave it and feel starving. Until you get through the four days, perhaps a salad with low cal dressing or a baked potato with smart balance margerine. that margerine has now trans fat and you can wash a potato (preferably red potato) and put in microvave approx 3-min without poking holes in it. After three min check with fork on a couple of sides to see if still hard, add another 30-sec and so on till done. Do this and couple it with Psalm meals and prayer.

TO SP:
I too have had the same struggle. I started doing the SCF and had 3 days of binge the 3rd week into (worse than when I started). I have decided to not continue on with this plan. The scriptures I have been studying this week focuses in not following th rules but following Christ, so I find it contradicting to follow the SCF. I have been doing better by not following any rules but simply giving it to God, he has slowly led me to desire healthier foods. I do however, fast 1 day a week (usually eat a lite dinner though) & I enjoy this.

Hi, I think you should be obedient to what the doctor said.
If you are like me trying to be moderate on your own will probably not last long.
I am one month into a free biblically-based eating plan found on settingcaptivesfree.com called the Lord's Table. Why not visit the web site and see if it appeals to you? It is helping me.
Your friend, Maura

Hello,
I have some questions about eating, but first, some background: For 3 months before I began Dee's Bible Study, I was eating only when hungry, stopping when full, and exercising regularly. (I lost 20#).
Since beginning Dee's program, using the SCF method, I've been feeling a little confused. Here's why: Now, instead of eating when I'm hungry, I have to ignore the hunger pangs on some days and just drink juice or water (which is okay). However, what do I tell myself on other days when I have no hunger pangs at mealtimes but have 3 meals + to eat? Should I still eat them even though I'm not hungry? That doesn't seem right. (My hunger pangs are often very weak, go away quickly when ignored, and tend not to return.)
I am still exercising fairly regularly. I exercise and lift weights 2-3x/week and jog or walk 3 miles almost every day.
Any suggestions or advice, Dee?

By the way, I have found that the SCF method provides the most freedom from food (except on the "normal" days) for the simple reason that it limits me the most. I know that sounds strange, but I've found that on days when I'm left to my own devices to eat 3 full meals and snacks of my choosing, I have difficulty not overeating. On the days when I know food is limited, I feel "unburdened" and free from even having to think about it.
For me, the grace of God (and the Bible lessons and the SCF program) have helped release me from the tyranny of food. Praise the LORD!!! I'm in week 8 and plan to go through all the lessons one more time so I don't forget all I've learned.
I've lost about 13# so far but, most importantly, I've learned that overeating is a sin and that I've been cheating the Lord (and myself) every time I run to food instead of him.
I am very thankful for the Women of Moderation bible study.

Sue -- I think since you were successful with the eating only when hungry plan, that is a good way to continue. In the revised SCF program, they suggest that as an alternate plan, saying the original plan is like "training wheels," but it seems you have already progressed past the training wheels -- so seems wise to keep riding on the eating only when hungry plan! Hi, I am stuck on week 3 of setting captives free probably because I don't have an accountability partner. Are there any group meetings in south central IL. Or would anyone be willing to via e-mail.

Hi All, I haven't been corresponding lately.. but we are in need of prayer at our house.A0; My husband was laid off Tuesday.A0; We will ultimately be ok, but he is taking it hard because he feels (as do I ) that it was personal, he is an excellent worker at anything he does. Thanks you sisters.. Jesus promised he would be with us if we gathered in His name. A0; And you are all in my prayers as well.. The ironic part for me, is I will now be forced in moderating myself in absolutely everything.A0; --- On Wed, 10/22/08, QuickTopic daily digest <qtopic-41-MGbvmRgRTme@quicktopic.com> wrote: From: QuickTopic daily digest <qtopic-41-MGbvmRgRTme@quicktopic.com> Subject: Women of Moderation Study To: akking100@yahoo.com Date: Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 11:21 PM

Dear Anne,
I am praying for you and want to encourage you in that my husband and I have been where you are a number of times and God always made a way as we trusted in Him. Remember, God wants to show Himself mighty in our lives and supply us in supernatural ways if we will only wait on Him and give Him the chance instead of trying to fix a problem ourselves. One Christmas my husband was out of work, unemployment hadn't started coming, we were behind in our mortgage payments and I didn't have money to buy a Christmas present for my 2 daughters. We had been praying and hadn't told anyone of our plight. We knew my Mom would help if she knew but we wanted to see God help. Two weeks before Christmas we went to a little prayer meeting that we went to on Thursday nights and a friend who had just lost his job, gave us a Christmas card or so I thought. I stuck it in my Bible and forgot about it. About a week later the friend called and asked if we had opened the card. I quickly appologized and went to get the card out of my Bible. Inside I found a check which caught up our mortgage payments, paid our power bill and gave me money to buy shoe skates for my girls which was all they had wanted for Christmas.Years later our third daughter who was to come along many years later wrote this little song. I hope it blesses you. "Our God will take care of us in our time of trouble, He is no respecter of persons, He will answer all our prayers so do not be afraid, He is our King and our God. May God bless you richly and show Himself mighty in your lives. May this be a wonderful season in your life as you come to see God as your source for everything you need. May He give you peace as you wait on Him and give you a glorious testimony of how He gave your husband a much better job where he is appreciated, and may He supernaturally supply all your needs in the days to come. May you look back on this season as I do that Christmas long ago when God did that for us. Praying for you, Oleta
