About two years ago I had mentioned the possibility of a memorial march to honour all the people civilian and military killed in the Northern Ireland troubles as this year is the 40th Anniversary of the civil rights marches and start of years of troubles in the province, I lost a mate and am sure lots of you,se out there have known somebody killed or maimed.

The West of Scotland Argyll,s and the Royal British Legion Paisley will be hosting and organising a N.Ireland veterans march on Sunday the 6th of September,we have just been given the go ahead for the march from the necessary authorities and although associations will probably be getting contacted after our next meeting if there are any individuals out there who would like to attend you will be made most welcome, our next meeting is Fri 3rd of July and I can give more information out after this as it,s got to go in front of the membership to sort out the finer details, I thought I would post this to give Argyll,s and ex serving Argyll,s a little prior notice.

Relatives of those killed in duty to receive Queen’s award

Just saw this in the Glasgow Herald and thought it might be of interest to some people

....Relatives of nearly 8000 British military personnel killed on active duty or in terrorist attacks are to be honoured by the Queen with a new bravery award.....

...The MoD said it will contact families of soldiers killed as far back as 2000, and that the relatives of those killed in earlier campaigns must contact the MoD for the honour....

...The award covers campaigns in Palestine from September 1945 to the end of 1947, the Falklands and Northern Ireland conflicts, as well as wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and terrorist atrocities....

....Families who wish to apply for the Elizabeth Cross can log onto www.mod.uk, or telephone 0800 085 3600....
