THE GIFT OF TONGUES

 

 

Jeremiah 1:9

 

“The Lord put out his hand

and touched my mouth;

and the Lord said to me,

‘now I have put my words in your mouth.’”

and every perfect gift is from above...

21 ...receive with meekness the engrafted word,

1 John 5:14

         

“And this is the confidence

that we have in him, that,

if we ask any thing

according to his will,

he heareth us:

15 And if we know

he hear us,

whatsoever we ask,

we know

we have the petitions

that

we desired of him.

16 If any man see his brother

sin a sin

which is not unto death,

he shall ask,

and he shall give him life

for them that sin not unto death.

There is a sin unto death:

I do not say

that

he shall pray for it.

 

...20 And we know

that the Son of God is come,

and hath given us an understanding,

that we may know him that is true,

and we are in him that is true,

even in his Son Jesus Christ.

This is the true God,

and eternal life.

 

Acts 10:34

         

“Then Peter opened his mouth,

Of a truth I perceive

that God is no respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation

he that feareth him,

and worketh righteousness,

is accepted with him.

the Holy Ghost fell

on all them

which heard the word.

as came with Peter,

because that

on the Gentiles also

was poured out

the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46               For they heard them

speak with tongues,

and magnify God.

Then answered Peter,

47 can any man forbid water,

that these should not be baptized,

which have received

the Holy Ghost as well as we?

48 And he commanded them

to be baptized

in the name of the Lord.

Then prayed they him

to tarry certain days.

 

Acts 11: 15  

 

(Peter speaking.)“And as I began to speak,

the Holy Ghost fell on them,

as on us at the beginning.

16 Then remembered I

the word of the Lord,

how that he said,

John indeed baptized with water;

but ye shall be

baptized with the Holy Ghost.

...18 When they heard these things,

they held their peace,

and glorified God,

saying,

Then hath God

also to the Gentiles

granted repentance unto life.

...21 And the hand of the Lord was with them:

and a great number believed,

and turned unto the Lord.

22 Then tidings

of these things

came unto the ears of the church

which was in Jerusalem:

and

they sent forth Barnabas,

that he should go as far as Antioch.

23 Who,

when he came,

and had seen the grace of God,

was glad,

and exhorted them all,

that

with purpose of heart

they would cleave unto the Lord.

24 For he was a good man,

and full of the Holy Ghost

and of faith:

and much people was added

unto the Lord.

...26 And when he had found him,

he brought him unto Antioch.

And it came to pass,

that a whole year

they assembled themselves

with the church,

and taught much people.

And the disciples

were called Christians

first in Antioch.

 

1 Corinthians 14:5

 

I would that ye all spake

with tongues

but rather

that ye prophesied:

for greater is he that prophesieth

than he

that speaketh with tongues,

except he interpret,

that the church may receive edifying.

 

1 Corinthians 14:13

 

Wherefore

let him

that speaketh

in an unknown tongue

pray that

he may interpret.

 

1 Corinthians 14:26

 

How is it then,

brethren?

when ye come together,

every one of you hath a psalm,

hath a doctrine, hath a tongue,

hath a revelation,

hath an interpretation.

Let all things

Be done unto edifying.

 

1 Corinthians 14:27

 

If any man speak

in an unknown tongue,

let it be by two,

or at the most by three,

and that by course;

and let one interpret.

 

1 Corinthians 14:28

 

But

if there be no interpreter,

let him keep silence in the church;

and let him speak to himself,

and to God.
