NWABA is looking for Powerlifting Participants
The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) is gearing up for its second season of Powerlifting for Blind and Visually Impaired Athletes in the Northwest.
We encourage all of you to try out this sport, Its a good way to stay Healthy and in Shape as well as add some muscle. Powerlifting is not hard to learn at all if your willing to put some time in, and are able to come to a few practices (and a training camp every once and awhile for you out of town folks) well teach you the LIFTS!
Weight training is a natural means of exercise for the blind, as it requires little start-up expenses and can be achieved at home or in a gymnasium. For the competitive athlete who is looking for an activity that he or she can perform with able-bodied individuals, Powerlifting is one of the few sports where a blind person can compete on an equal basis. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 20, 2007 Contact: Billy Henry, Billy@nwaba.org
The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) is pleased to announce that our regional Powerlifting team has returned from the WABDL World Powerlifting Championships held in Anaheim, California (Nov 15 20).
The whole weekend was packed full of activities. On Friday, it was dinner and Jazz music at the House of Blues in the Downtown Disney District, than it was Disneyland and California Adventures on Saturday. We did everything from rides that went 55mph hour to dinner at Red Rocket Pizza.
Finally, Sunday came, it started out with Billy Bench Press, and he did fairly well taking second in his category with a lift of 190lbs. Next up was Nicks Bench, he took second as well with a lift of a 125lbs. Once Benching finished, then came the Deadlift session. That started once again with Billys Deadlift, which was 330lbs, that was 1st in his category. Following that was Nick Deadlifting Session; Nick had a lift of 270lbs, which was 3rd in his category. Last but not least was Jacob who broke a State, National, World & NWABA record with his lift of 199.0lbs.
NWABA would like to thank all the sponsors, volunteers & supporters that helped us attend this competition. This would not have happened with out all of your help. To see more stats and pictures, please visit us on web (listed below) , or contact a NWABA Board Member --- GO NIGHTMARE ---
