The message that I sent with the above plate picture aparantly was lost.

I discovered your site today and I wish I lived close enough to be a part of your group. The above picture is a picture of what I do with vintage depression and antique glass. I do no harm to the plates when making sun catchers out of them, I put a solid brass rim around the plates, add five gold leaf jewlery findings to hang the plates from and to hang the crystals from. All of the jewelry findings are gold plated in 14ct. gold, my original ones I used gold plated chain, for 2009 I have changed to a gold plated cable because it's much stronger. With 33% lead crystals, weight becomes an issue. I just thought you would like to see what I do with beautiful glassware. When these are hung in a window that receives sunshine, the room fills with rainbows.

Dale, your blue suncatcher is breathtaking! I started my glass collection with small crackle glass pitchers and vases, whice I placed on the window ledge of a double-hung window in a room with 5 windows (4 pieces of crackle glass to each window). Every afternoon, the sun would throw a rainbow of color all through the dining room and into the living room from the den where the glass was on the window ledges (half way up the window). This was in an old house in Detroit. I wish I had taken a picture. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. We wish, too, that you were close enough to come to our meetings.

The Christmas Party on Tuesday was great. Thanks to all who put it together. We were so glad the weather didn't get bad until later.

If you weren't there, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Hopefully, we'll see you at the January meeting.

I'm just thinking outloud and have a couple of questions and one major comment that I will start with.

I have just viewed your 2009 and 2008 show foto's and they are breathtaking, I live in the Central part of Oregon and to my knowledge we don't have anything to compare with your club. With all this beautiful glassware the club should do a book of patterns and items.

I have 35 to 40 books on early pressed glass andd depression glass and I still am unable to locate some patterns so I can attach a name. I primarily collect 3.5 to 8 inch plates (a few a little larger) for the sun catchers that I make, I won't sell them unless I have a glass company, pattern name and date for them. I at times do a plate or two from the 1800's and they are very hard to identify.

If I posted some pictures of plates that I need information on, would anyone in your club be willing to help identify? I would be willing to pay a little for this service or become a long distance member for a small anual fee just for this service. Please let me know if anyone has a suggestion or idea on this.

I make two types of suncatchers from these glass plates, the only difference is that the "A" grade has no chips or cracks and the "B" grade plates can have a small flee bite or two no larger then 1/8th x 1/8 on the rim. Grade "B"s are only done on a special order for collectors of a certian pattern. The metal trim is engraved with a "B" by the left hand upper hanger. A picture of the plate, it's diameter and rim style are important for a quote that doesn't enclude shipping.

I have collected early glass for almost 50 years and have many beautiful pieces (500+) besides the hundreds of plates. Most of my plates wholesale for $50 to $85.00 plus shipping. The blue plate above was $69.00 pluse $9.00 priority mail.

Thanks everyone for putting up with this long request and advertisement that may not be allowed. Please give me some guidence on this.

Merry Christmas and a safe happy holoday season to all,

Dale, Anyone is free to post a piece of glass just to show, or to get help in identifying the pattern. Why don't you give it a try. Also, we have several out-of-state members of our Club. Oregon is pretty far from Michigan, so the only possible benefit you might receive is our Newsletter, which is mainly about Club meetings and presentations that you see on the website. Glad you found our show photos to be "breathtaking." We agree, of course.

Just received an email from Tom who says he broke one of his wife's cordials and is in the doghouse. I'm posting a picture he sent me to help identify it and get a replacement. If anyone knows the maker and pattern that will be a big help to get him started in finding a replacement. Please email him at oharet@bc.edu if you have any for sale. Or just post any helpful information here.

Tammie Holleran and I are presenting a progam on barware at the next club meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26. We have examples from the EAPG era through the 40's, 50' and 60's. We hope members can bring their special barware pieces to add interest to the program! Your barware items might include: pitchers, cocktail shakers, ice buckets/pails/tubs, cocktail glasses/stemware/tumblers/cordials, shot glasses/whiskeys, decanters, beverage dispensers, coasters, beer mugs, juice reamers, swizzle sticks, muddlers, cigarette boxes/holders, ashtrays, and cigarette or cigar lighters! Surely everyone has a least one of these! We'll see you on the 26th!

Not a "what's it?", but a "whose it?". A Fostoria ice bucket with tongs was left at the January meeting. I have it and will bring it to the next meeting. Let me know if you are the owner.
