I'm like my kid often and she's only 2 (that should tell you something).

Good thing you sent us this email, because I see that no one from Alleghany has posted. If they are like me, they didn't know this site existed. Could just be my problem--sometimes I'm like my kids, a poor listener.

Thanks, Danny. Just let us know when you do get together and if you have anything you'd like to share. Enjoy the snow! : )

Donna,
The math teachers at Ashe County Middle School... A teacher, or some teachers, may be coming from the high school for another specific topic, but the TAN info will be discussed before this. Sorry for any confusion. I posted my earlier comment as a result of Tracie's e-mail. :)

Happy New Year, Teacher Algebra Network! We hope the new year is starting off well and that everyone has transitioned smoothly back to school. We will be meeting with our Ashe county group for the first time on Jan.18 (the original day was cancelled because of the weather) and scheduling a second day to meet with everyone sometime in this spring semester.
Keep your eyes peeled for "Equation Talks" and other tidbits we'll be posting here or at the webpage or through email. And as you're reading through the first two chapters of Drischoll's book, think about questioning and using questioning to bring about algebraic reasoning in your classroom, and what aspects of teaching algebraic reasoning you'd like to discuss further in our next meeting. Take care and keep in touch!

Just to let folks know what's going on...
Our first full day of professional development with Alleghany county teachers will be on Nov. 9, then we'll be with teachers from Avery county on Nov. 16, and we are tentatively scheduled to meet with Ashe county folks on Nov.2 (though not everyone has been reached to confirm this, and we may be meeting on the 30th of Nove. instead).
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about this first day before it happens.

I just noticed that the web page for ASHe links to Alleghany.

Welcome Teacher Algebra Network participants!

This Quick Topic site will be the forum for our communication related to the grant project. You can access the web page to read posts or you can subscribe to the page and receive posts via email as they are made. It should be a convenient way to keep in touch, and if you are already familiar with the Public School Partnership, you're probably familiar with Quick Topic.

A couple of short announcements -

We are currently working with your curriculum officers to schedule a meeting time at each school district. Hope to see you there!

A basic webpage has been started for the program, and I will continue to add to it and enhance it as things get rolling. Not all links are up and running at this point, but if you'd like to see it, you can click on http://www.appstate.edu/~salinastm/TAN.htm. At this point, Explorer and Safari seem to work well with it. I haven't tried Mozilla, but I know Netscape sometimes has issues with DreamWeaver.

In the meantime, thank you for your interest. We will see you soon .
