I am a teacher at Cranberry Middle School in Avery county. I was wondering if any of you have any good matrices resources (not just typical textbook problems). I sometimes have technical difficulties when I try to access the message board so if you could email your suggestions to me that would be so helpful. My email address is lauraking@averyschools.net. Thanks.

Hi Laura and all! We do have a few sample matrix activities created by Dr. Katrina Palmer, a friend in the mathematical sciences department. I don't think we can post the document here at the chat page, but we will post it on the website (and Laura I'll email you). If others have trouble accessing or finding the page at the website let us know! Also, keep in mind that Dr. Palmer's examples range from algebra 1 appropriate up to integrated 2 appropriate, so you probably won't want to use them all.

I do not have an opportunity in my prealgebra classes to use matrices. HI, everyone - I'll be posting the matrix problems to the TAN website. However, because there was just this week a move from one server to another for personal webpages, I'm having to check and repair some kinks. I'll post the web link with the new and corrected address ASAP. Thanks! Tracie

To reply about technology- Yes, we do plan to have this incorporated into sessions. It seems that this may occur in the summer professional development to allow for more flexibility in planning and working with examples. And just so everyone knows, the Math Focus Groups will be hosting a speaker from Texas Instruments at the March meeting. That meeting will be held March 18th at the Broyhill Conference Center in Boone. The session will begin at 4:45 and last about 2 hours. We will be offering renewal credits for your attendance. The speaker, Barbara Simpson, will present about the TINspire and will have enough to allow you to actually participate in the workshop, not just observe. If you'd like to attend or want more information, please let me know. As for dates for the spring - Katie and I are currently verifying these with your school districts. We will post them as soon as we can.

Just to let everyone know, we had our spring professional development at Ashe County on Monday, March 10th. We have dates at Alleghany on Thursday, March 20th, and at Avery on Friday, April 11th. The summer session looks to be Monday, July 14th - Thursday, July 17th. We hope to see you all then! As for technology, Katie and I have been looking at our summer schedule and talking about how to best fit in some additional technology sessions. We would like to make this be a part of the summer sessions. We may allow small groups of teachers to do short presentations on what they use because we know that you all have some very different kinds and uses of technology. Tammy Marion and Carmen Wilson, would you like to do something with Smart Boards? Derrick and Mike, would you like to talk about your use of iPods? Anyone else have something that they would like to share? Or is there a specific technology that you would like to see that might require an outside speaker? Please let us know so that we can plan.

Hi - The Avery County Day is on the 11th, and we plan to do a 9 - 3 session. Unless Katie has additional information, that is all that I have at the moment. More to follow - Tracie
