Major Website Review
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/multiple-sclerosis/ds00188.

I am reviewing the website http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/multiple-sclerosis/ds00188.
This website has tremendous information on MS, its symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. Mayo Clinic posts this information as part of their informative tools for healthier lives so that people are able to research this information in a user friendly website.
The topic of MS relates directly back to anatomy and physiology because it is a disease that affects the central nervous system. It is an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack parts of the body as if they do not belong. In MS, the body attacks proteins in the myelin sheath. This causes inflammation and injury to the nerves. Eventually this causes blockage of the nerve signals that control muscle coordination and more.
One of the best features of this website is that it is separated into sections that are accessed directly from the first page. So you are able to go directly to whichever subject you are most interested in. For example, if you wish to only see symptoms of MS, you can click on the symptoms section and be automatically directed to it. Another good feature is that it has a link to create a printable version and you are able to print only the section you are reading or you can print the entire article. I did not really identify anything that I didn’t really like about the website. I found it to be extremely informative and suited to my purposes.

You are lacking a title for your first review.

I did like how you stated how this first website relates back to A&P. You went into a more specific detail about how MS affects the body. It was a bit brief and I might have expanded on it more if I was the one writing the paper, but it was easy to understand. It doesn't look like you wrote anything negative about the website.

The second review is also lacking a title. It also didn't state why the website is being posted.

I liked the fact that the review was to the point, but you may want to go back and expand on how this subject relates to A&P just a little bit. I might also expand to include your overall opinion of this website also.

One thing that I found lacking in the msfocus website was a concise title pointing we readers toward your general view of the website.
This review was easy to read and to the point. One thing you might want to do is develop your ideas a little bit more to make for a longer essay: the instructions call for 1-2 pages and yours fall a little short.

Again lacking in the mayo clinic review was a title.
This review was still a little bit too short although I liked your explaination of ms as it was brief but still to the point. Another thing that you might want to work on is figuring out what you didn’t like about the website: if there wasn’t anything you disliked, then say so.

April, your upper review seems to have a title that's missing your general view/opinion about the website. Also, I think the teacher would've wanted you include the URL address of the website's HOME page. That is at least what I read in the instructions.

The best thing I liked about this review was that is was short; therefore, it got straight to point. However, the part where you talked about the advantages and disadvantages of the website could use improvement. If you truly think there's nothing wrong with the website, then state it as your opinion. You made it sound like a fact that there's nothing really wrong with the website.

Your bottom review also seems to be missing a concise title with your overall view on the website. You also did not include links to those sub-pages where you found those good features.

Once again, I like how your review is short and to the point. You didn't include any features of the website that you thought were bad. If you don't think there are bad features on the website, then say so. However, I would try to find at least one flaw about website. In addition, I detected a sentence fragment where you talked about the best features of the website. Improve it by making it into complete sentence.

On the following website www.msfocus.org you can scroll to the middle of the website and click on programs and it will take you to the following link http://www.msfocus.org/programs_edumth_2007_emotions.php. This link is for a chat session that was made into a transcript. It talks about the emotions that go along with being diagnosed with MS. This chat was led by Dr. Robert Godsall, who is a clinical neuropsychologist. His job is to assess patients diagnosed with MS for emotional impact.
This relates back to Anatomy and physiology because it deals with the impact on cognitive function for MS patients and provides counseling options for people who are having a particularly difficult time.
One of the best features of this link is that during these chats patients have the opportunity to talk directly with the doctors and ask questions that relate personally to them. They are also able to hear what other issues people like them are dealing with and get ideas for how to deal with them from real life patients. It is also beneficial because if a patient misses the chat then they can go back and print the transcript or read it online.
There really isn’t a bad feature of this website.

April,
interesting topic and websites. Be sure you tell us who is posting the website and why, per the assignment instructions. You also don't really have a minor or lesser website to review..you might use one of the online support groups that is linked from the msfocus site. Your peers have provided some good detailed feedback and I have nothing to add.

Your peer feedback from you to the other folks is minimal and does not provide two best and worst things about each site.

#1. The good things about this website are that it is nicley layed out and very easy to navigate. I find that it answers all my questions about MS! Yay!
#2. This is also a great website! It has good information and also answers all my questions. It’s not as fancy as the first one but hey, it gets the job done.
#3. This website seems like it is more patient oriented information rather than just information that’s out there for public use. However it is a good website and it still answers questions and provides a wealth of information.
#4. OOOHHH!!! It’s WebMD!!! I love WebMD! It has lots of up to date information on whats going on in the world of MS. However if I wanted to find out the basics of or the FAQ’s of MS I’d have to do a tad bit more research. But I still love it.

The other wo websites I did not really care much for, one was more of a congregation and not really informational. and the other one was repetitive information, not really to much more to know. www.nationalmssociety.org

http://www.webmd.com/multiple-sclerosis/default.htm had a ton of information. It was very visually pleasing which was sort of strange given the subject matter. Really the only thing I thought bad was the way they crammed information everywhere. If I had MS I wouldn't want to deal with navigating this site.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/multiple-sclerosis/DS00188 is run by the Mayo clinic and Is by far superior to the web md site. The information was presented in a very straight forward manner and the site was less glitzy and more serious which I found much more appropriate for the subject. Also more relaxing visually and easy to navigate. I couldn't find anything about this website I didn't like, but they didn't offer any contact info for support groups, or personal stories.

http://www.msfocus.org/ provided a lot of the same info as the mayo clinic site. I did think they weren't as well organized, but they had a much more personal feel and offered plenty of info on support groups, forums, and stories people with MS would take quite an interest in. It seemed that they were trying to inspire you to take action and become part of their community of people who have this disorder and need to support each other through it.

http://www.nationalmssociety.org/site/Page...me=hom_gen_homepage This website initially appeared to be nothing more than a newsletter of events for people who have of know someone who has MS. However after clicking on some of the tabs I found some interesting factual information on MS. Once again this site also is a call to action for people who are affected directly of inderectly by MS.

-The website http://www.webmd.com/multiple-sclerosis/default.htm had good information for the casual reader or perhaps someone who has or knows someone who has multiple sclerosis. The pages are a little bit too differentiated for my preference, although they provide easy navigation.
-The website http://www.msfocus.org/ provided detailed, concise information leaning a little bit towards what someone actually diagnosed with the disease would want to know. Also supporting that conclusion is the large amount of support and/or fundraising parts of the website.
-This website (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/multiple-sclerosis/DS00188) did not have enough information. Seeming to be almost solely for the non-medically educated person, and without any personal stories, the website is a little underdone.
-The website http://www.nationalmssociety.org/site/Page...me=hom_gen_homepage was a good site dedicated to those suffering from ms. The only problem is the lack of good information, most of it being vague and meant for the media, ect.

I thought your first website provided informative,up-to-date information about MS, and your source seems like a reliable one. However, a lot of information your website provided seemed irrelavent to our class, such as who gets MS, newly diagnosed, etc. Other than that, it's a good website.

The 2nd website had lots of information and links to other webpages as well. It didn't have the variety of information the first website had. However, it's also a good website overall.

Your 3rd website seems to have a good reliable source, and was easy to navigate. This website also had a lot of information that was irrelavent to our class.

I like the way your fourth website was organized, and it had plenty of infomation about MS.

One of the things I disliked about all your websites was that they lacked detail. They are great websites for the general public, especially for people with MS and their loved ones. However, none of them provided good information for a scientist. For instance, what exactly goes on during all that degeneration of myelin? What chemicals, hormones, proteins, etc. are involved?

I thouhgt the 3rd website was really good. I have studied up on MS a little bit because my mom and her sister were both diagnosed with the disease in there late 40s. and this has alot of what I know and what people should know if they wanted to do research on MS. The second website was pretty informational to, it says a little nit different things about age, and when MS appears though.

I thought the first website was very informative with areas for news, programs, etc. It was a very broad page which is great. It was just a little hard to navigate at first.
I liked the second website as well. It had quite a bit of information, and had links to other webpages as well. It didn't have the variety of information the first website had. But still a great website.
I thought the third website was also very informative, easy to navigate and was even able to find a personal letter from a person with MS. I would have liked to see more of a personal aspect to the disease. But a great website though!
The fourth website also very informative, but couldn't find any personal stories in that one.

http://www.nationalmssociety.org/site/Page...me=hom_gen_homepage

This website has a lot of information about how to get involved in helping people with MS through charity work. It’s really interesting how people come together to help other people on a national level.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/multiple-sclerosis/DS00188

This website is very informative about the symptoms of MS and how to get diagnosed as well as the different treatment options.

http://www.msfocus.org/

This website has a section of publications and fact sheets that have important information. It also has links to online support groups.

http://www.webmd.com/multiple-sclerosis/default.htm

This website had many related article links to other areas of interest regarding MS. One of them talks about an antibody that helps stop nerve damage. Another one talks about DNA vaccines that may help stop MS.

I chose multiple sclerosis as my topic because I don't really know anything about it and I would like to. Usually writing about something and having to research it is the best way to learn more. What little I do know about the disease fascinates me.
