Unfortunately I was unable to attend the last class. In addition to feeling a bit out of the loop...I am certain there was a collaborative piece that I should have contributed to..if there is something please let me know, I am happy to do it. Are there materials somewhere that I could view?
I did checkout the 'Blackboard' ...looks like a great piece of software-

Is Blackboard a special program? In any case, I'm also in agreement that breaking it up as a webquest for the three different levels would be the way to go. Teachers could then gear it towards a specific grade by either adding or subtracting requirements. Ok see you all Tuesday night for further discussion.

I like the idea of addressing Primary, elementary, middle and high school levels. A webquest would be a good format to address all with an introduction, the task, the process and resources, and a conclusion. All the links can be organized there along with some kind blackboard for the students to post their ideas and questions. There can be a link for teachers with lesson plans and standards also.

I agree there is no need to address each grade level individually. I like the idea of breaking it down elementary, middle school and high school. If possible, something like Blackboard might be beneficial for students to post ideas and questions. THis site could be facilitated by the instructors, so it doesn't turn into facebook or myspace. Just a thought.

I don't think we should limit it to any grade level. They should all be involved. Are we still incorporating a way for teachers to share lesson plan ideas? Mabey a direct link from picture or video right to the lesson plan. Mabey a list of standards that can be clicked to enter into matching lessons and vice versa.

From what I remember of our discussion, there would be different content areas addressed at different leveles. I am not sure if we have to address every grade or if we can give suggestions for different levels; primary, intermediate, middle and high school. We might want to address the way each level will present their work or what the final project would consist of at each level. (ex. ms and hs would do some type of research project with several deliverables where as the elementary grades might just do a poster, a paragraph, or a drawing.

I would agree that "Our Long Island" will make students feel possessive of the project, as if all of their contributions will be equally important.
Did we discuss whether we are going to deal with each content area, or will we be specific to one or two? grade levels?

Hi everyone--I also will be away for the weekend, but should have computer access. I actually think "your Long Island" or "Our Long Island" had a pretty nice ring to it..Or maybe something like "Long Island Through Your Eyes". Ok speak to you all soon.

Hi Everyone, I am going away for the weekend but will start working on the deliverables. Any suggestions for a title for this project. I am not very creative but I thought of a few: "Your Long Island", "Getting to know your Surroundings", "Native to Your Long Island", "What's Around You". Now that I got everyone thinking please post your suggestions so that we can come up with a title. Talk to everyone later. Janie

Hi again. I probably should have suggested this in my last post - or in class tonight - but your notetaker should probably post all of the notes s/he took in tonight's class in order to facilitate your group's discussion!

Hi. This is an area for you to share your ideas, build more, or choose one that you will focus on developing in more detail over the next week before our next class session. You will have time in class to further develop your final products, and then we'll share those with both your cohort and the cohort that meets in Herricks. We look forward to learning about how you thought that we could take advantage of community resources in our K12 schools.
I'd suggest you check this site and participate in the conversation at least 2 or 3 times over the next week.
