Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention 2013

Welcome to the Message Board for the 2013 Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention!

Please use this board to receive information and updates on the progress of event planning, to contact event staff, and most importantly, to keep in touch with all your HPCC friends year round! If you are new to the group PLEASE jump right in and introduce yourself. The internet forum is a great way to establish friends before you ever even arrive here for your first event. If you participate in it, you will find yourself searching out your message board friends as soon as you get here. What an easy way to break the ice!

We do ask that you refrain from politcal topics. There are forums for those elsewhere. Come here.....and be a sailor!!

We can't wait for all you guys to arrive, old friends and new. If you have a questions do not hesitate to post it. Myself or one of our HPCC veterans will answer it ASAP.

If you need the link to our main web site you find it at:

Bill and Rob: That is just super!! I am very impressed with the boat and the work of art (you can't call that a paint job) and I continue to be mesmerized by Bill's art. Well Done!!

I had planned to keep this project under wraps until HPCC 2014 and introduce "Ladyship" to our community at that time, but under the circumstances, here's a sneak preview of Bill Barnhart's most recent work. He and Marianne came to visit us recently and now "Ladyship" is amazing in her new and very colorful paint job that Bill did while he was here. Our thanks also to Stan (aka "Paint Boy" ) and Interlux for helping us with the "Brightsides" epoxy primer and paints we used. Most of you already know Bill from his remarkable restoration of his rare Champion 21 sailing at HPCC's previous events and I can only thank him for his talent and interest in helping us along with our current project. "Ladyship" will be headed soon to the J.S.I. facilities in St. Pete, Florida on her trailer for rig overhaul, sails, cushions and other work we are not equipped to do. I hope to have her in the water here locally this fall and of course, at the next HPCC we are all waiting for !!

Thanks to Bill and Stan...you guys made it happen!!

Yesterday we had our customer visit the workplace and one of the guys who came by took this shot of me.

My work spot has a window that has a wonderful view of a warehouse and there used to be a guy who worked there who was always real happy. He was even real happy on Monday and I never like Monday because I always enjoy the weekend and Monday is a nasty end to the weekend. I had put this sign up for "happy guy" over a year ago on a particularly happy Monday (for happy guy, not me) and had completely forgotten that it was there.

What a GREAT recap of my butt whoop'en last year on the Border Run. What a fun adventure it was! Good luck to Mo. I "need" to finish this race, but we have a scheduling conflict with us attending the C-22 Nationals in Florida next month. One thing that for sure will be the same.....we'll get our butt's whoop'ed at the C-22 Nationals too! These guy's have some tricked-out C-22's!

Just wait till next year!

Dennis,

Small world! Was that your tiller and genoa also that I bought at HPCC? You won't believe how your old rudder looks now. I also up-graded it to the new 1/2" pintles to match my boat. IdaSailor offered a replacement blade for the kick-up C-22 in the past. Need to talk with RudderCraft and see if they would re-start manufacturing them. I can understand they want to sell their entire kick-up version, but I believe they could sell a bunch of the blade conversions, at least two for sure! I LOVE my fixed RudderCraft rudder. Unbelievable difference! It's like power steering! I would LOVE to convert my kick-up rudder as well.

Ahoy Trailer Sailors, My Crew Christoph & I are heading to San Carlos Jun 13-17 to complete our ASA 103 Coastal Cruising certs, We have space for 2 more and the price drops with two more.
We'll be on a 31 foot Ericson mono hull(my 32 will be sitting @ home very upset)
This will be a budget trip, only 4 hours south of Tucson.
$395 for the 103 course. If we can move fast enough maybe even start on bareboat 104.
This trip won't have much free time.
I have a house to stay in lined up.
The tacos and libations are to end each day.
Share fuel and other expenses.

I have 2 fleet members did get cert with Vince and they had a very fine experience.

Let see if we can mesh for this certification adventure.

"....there were a few parts we'd rather forget!" What parts?! I don't remember any bad parts! All I remember is the awesome time we had, especially the spinnaker run. I don't remember much after that... :-)

Gare Bear the rudder looks good, that is on my spring job list for Resolute.

Mo good luck have fun and be safe maybe Tru Luff will get another cover opp. I am still toying with doing the Boarder run with Resolute after I get her electronics updated and additional safety equipment added. We have a saying in the PD "No give up", so geter done.

Border Run II (offshore from Long Beach to San Diego) is approaching and Mo says he's going for it! Awesome! I was bouncing around the web tonight and found Crazy Howie's recap of last year's Border Run II race... a grudge match between the crews of Y-knot and Big D. Somehow I got pinned with the name of "Mulligan the Mangler" hahaha Where did that come from!?

http://howies.net/socalpotter/BorderRunII/Index.htm

We had a lot of fun trash talkin each other... (Boyko started it! We finished it!) ;-)

Before we knew it the date was upon us! This was the day before the race.... (training day)

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_31yZGLfDI

and then the big race itself...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id...GLfDI&v=H30qHT6vV7I

I can't recommend trying something like this enough. Most of the the race was awesome fun....there were a few parts we'd rather forget! hahaha Go prepared , both boat and crew. I think we both found it quite the challenge and much much different than chasing our tail around the local pond. The stakes are bigger, challenges more demanding....and preparation to do it as safely as possible a lot of work and expense. But the personal rewards were huge. .....AND....We took second in class (XS Monhull) and Second in the Double-Handed Category.

The crew of Big D will be partaking in another adventure in the Pacific Northwest during this year's Border Run II. We wish Mo and crew on Tru Luff fairwinds and following seas. Mo has done all the prepwork. All that remains is to go have the fun! Good Luck Mo!!! Make the Pocket Cruisers Proud!!
