Reservations are made...calendar is marked "out of office"...I'm all set for another year of fun in the desert! Thanks Sean and Jo for playing hosts again for what is sure to be an outstanding event.

Now, the boat show, that's another matter. I've been putting off necessary repairs to the woodwork, and the bronze ports don't shine any more (did they ever?). Problem is, I already have a job, [insert whine] and I want to spend my weekends sailing! I'll get busy though, to pay respects to what will be the Sensational Southwest Sailboat Show and Havasu Concours d'Elegance!

Don't sweat it Matt.....The greatest thing about our boats is.....we use them.....they are boats....not museum pieces! A little 'patina' on the brass shows character!!! ;-)

Hi, We sure would love to come. But might not make it this year? Years ago when I was Commodore of a sailing club in Arizona, we had a great weekend sailing there. I stayed a extra week, because we liked it so much. When I was sailing in Fleet 66(Hobie Fleet), we has a few races up there, and would you know, no wind. But the time we went with the mono-hulls, we had lots of wind?? Figure that would you?? Happy Sailing Capt. Tony

Hey guys, Thanks for all the messages. I've been on duty the last couple of days so was unable to reply....that dang work thing you know! :-)

Oh yeah, this is looking to be a great turnout! I will be in touch with the Hotel on Monday to see about upping from 30 rooms/slips to 40 as it seems we may just blow right past the 30 boat mark!! Unbelieveable!!

Keep spreading the word! If we run out of rooms and slips we'll figure something out. The numbers of participants coming is what is gonna make this a great event. The more of you that come, the more enticing it is for us to attract great sponsors. My vision for this is to go full-on convention style as the event grows in the years to come. That would include even having speakers/seminars/workshops/display type events put on by the sponsors and vendors. The London Bridge Resort has the facilities to support all of this. It's taken three years, but we are growing the event pretty rapidly now. I think that breaking out into the full-on "convention" mode is just around the corner.

Keep this in mind, though. As I have always said...this event is about you! You guys make the event...period. You will never pay an entry fee to come here and participate. No matter how big it grows, we'll find a way to keep it that way. Think that's crazy? Well, check out the Albuquerque Baloon Fiesta held every year. 900 to 1000 balloons particpate from all over the world. It's a 10 day event. Not only do they not charge competitors to partipate...but they pay ALL their lodging and fuel expenses if they come! The community realizes that they event is great for the them and there is no event without the balloonists. This is my model. I don't ever forsee this getting THAT big, but I do see potential for huge growth. After we pull this year off and show how much interest there is, I am going to approach the local community to see how much support we can muster up. You guys are getting to the numbers now that you are bringing some significant $$ into this economy during a time of year that our lake is underused. It's a perfect fit. So c'mon!! Talk your buddies into caravaning with you and lets grow this thing!!

I'm so excited about this year...can you tell?!!

Sean, Jo, and of course, Bosun!

I posted a link to the event on the Capri-18 web site and it seems like there is a couple that is planning on making the trip!

Here was their response:

Thanks for the link Don. We booked yesterday and they gave us the special rate for the whole week. He did say say they were filling up fast, especially with the one bedroom units at the special rate. We can't wait!

Looks like we'll have a couple "Monkey Killer's" this year!

This event is still four months away and we're as excited about this event as we were for the Catalina trip!

Way to go Don. I can't wait to see all those trailer sailers on the dock and get to sail with all of them.

Dan,
What may I ask is a "Monkey Killer" ?

I would hope these not be 'fightin words' or a disparging name for a brand of 'fun machines'.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Anxiously waiting an explanation -

It's in reference to a smart-butt comment I made about my "full batten main" being a "Monkey Killer"......all in good fun trash-talk. If I could relate it to car guys....you have the Ford guys and you have Chevy guys.....I'm the guy who shows up in a Rambler.....

Monkey (read: Montgomery) Killer is Don's pet name for his new mainsail for his Capri-18, ha ha. Among this laid back trailer-sailing bunch, I think that's as close to fighting words as we'll ever come. Somewhere in the archives of last year's message board is even a picture of Don holding that rolled up sail like a bazooka, pointed at the monty fleet. Last year's Havasu fest set off a bit of sail-buying activity, unfortunately for the bank accounts. One downside of a 17-mile "race", I mean, "cruise" down the lake...equipment envy!

I'm sure this year's massive collection of boats will be the inspiration for any number of modifications, and I'm looking forward to it.

Oh.....there's that "monkey killer" stuff showing up again.....geez....well you better come prepared! There will be lots of Monkeys out there looking to show it up. I think that this will be the definitive test of your weapon!

;-)

In Brookings OR tonight, heading for San Fran and a sail under the Golden Gate with the Kautz's on Friday!!!!
