Hey Sean, have you checked with the folks at power tiller about sponsorship? The contact number for them is (602)852-9150. I would contact them for you if I didn't leave for work at four AM and not return until eight PM. Like you my employer dosen't appreciate personal business while I'm working. Power tiller appears to be located in Pheonix. You can get info at information@powertiller.net. Perhaps you can send them an E mail with a link to the poker run site. I don't yet know how to send a link as I am still somewhat of a digital dumb @#%!. Hope this helps. It would be great if power tiller could show up and put on a demonstration. See you in February.

Hey Dan,
yes, I am working on the WM angle. Last year we got a lot of support from the gals at the local store. I have been talking to them, but also sent a request to WM corporate to see about a corpporate level sponsorship. No word back so far. I also have sent info to JSI and The Sail Warehouse....again, so far no replies from them.
Thanks.....Sean

Sean...has anyone approached West Marine for sponsorship? The ATUS just purchased a couple of $100.00 gift certificates from them for the Havasu Bash...unfortunately no one of authority was around for me to lobby a sponsorship...maybe West Marine Havasu?? We spent a couple of hundred bucks there last time we were in your town!!!...Best, Dan

Hey Dave! Great call on Potti-bag! Already heard back from Robert at Potti-bag and sounds like they might be onboard! Have to get with him on the phone later this week still, but sounds good! Great work!
Also, I shot-off and email to Yeti Coolers too. We'll see what they have to say. Another great idea. I was not familiar with either product and you are right, they both fit what we do perfectly!

Thanks Dave....Sponsorship request email sent out to Pottibag. Great idea and a cool product. Gotta luv the port-a-pottie. Remind me when you are here to tell you the story about sailing down East Sound (San Juan Islands) in a good blow, shortacking, in the rain, and having 'Jo go below look back up into the cockpit and announce in a very concerned way " Uh......we've got some kind of leak!".....yeah........and it wasn't saltwater! YUCK! hahaha I think that so far in all our sailing I would put that as the biggest CRISIS we've ever suffered! Especially when you consider we were living on the boat for the next week! hahaha

Sean, one other product that trailer sailors might be interested in would be the pottibag. Nearly all of us have had the unpleasant opportunity to deal with trasporting the potti. The pottibag doesn't make it pleasant but, perhaps a little less unpleasant. Check out www.pottibag.com.

Possible sponsor? Hi Sean I don't know anyone at yeti coolers but their products are fantastic and would be of interest to small boat cruisers. They have a web site with a contact number. I tried to call today but only got an answering machine. You may want to try again during the week. Good job on all you ahve accomplished so far. Thanks

Hey Everyone!
Well, here's this week's update:
Great News Again!!!
Josh and Craig over at Small Craft Advisor Magazine let me know yesterday that they are on board with being Sponsors of the event for the third time. Woohoo!!! Each year a number of you guys have gone home with year long subscriptions to SCA. It's the magazine that supports EXACTLY the type of sailing, boats, and crews that are just like us. I will be adding them to the website today. If you get a chance, get on their website, go to their message board, and post a big thank you to them so we can acknowledge their support publically. There website is www.smallcraftadvisor.com PLEASE TRY TO DO THIS!! Also, Josh has asked me to be thinking about a recap article of the entire event once it concludes for publication in the magazine. Way cool. In the next issue of SCA you will see an ad for the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Poker Run!
OK...Next is the Hotel update:
I spoke with the Hotel yesterday. We have 38 of the 40 rooms/slips they blocked-out booked. There are only 4 more 1 bedroom suites left in the hotel and they have all been assigend to be held for our event. I expect them to book...so, they have given us a deal on 6 two-bedroom suites as well. The two-bedroom suites are 2bed/2 bath, so having two boats share a suite is totally do-able. They will also allow two crews that are sharing a suite to each obtain a slip. Our two-bedroom suites group rate is $159.00 per night, another great deal. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get your rooms booked ASAP. There is a big fireworks convention in town the same weekend and the town will be full of the "pyro-people" (a breed amongst themselves!).
I am working with the Hotel and we will be using their convention center building for a seminar to be put on by Stan Sussman of Interlux/Awlgrip on the products that they make to make your boat look beautiful. Stan is an expert in this area, usually overseeing paint jobs on million dollar yachts! So if you have been wishing you knew how to paint your own boat, or get confused when you look at all the different products out there, like I do, you won't want to miss this!
We are looking into doing a t-shirt/sweatshirt or embroidered ballcap for the event. So I am posing this question. Is there any interest in this? The balllcap would be easier because we wouldn't have to make so many sizes and it is pretty easy to customize with the name of your boat on the side of the hatband. But lots of folks don't wear caps. If we did do this it would be a prepaid order kind of deal as I'm just not gonna have the spare $$ to front for the t-shirt design and production. Sorry but that's the only way as a lot of little $$ items are adding up quickly. Send me any feedback.
Sailmaker:
WE NEED A SAILMAKER TO ATTEND THIS EVENT! So far nothing is lined up. Have you purchased sails recently. If so, get on the horn with your favorite sailmaker and talk him into coming down, doing a seminar on sailcare/tuning/maintenance and to give a good sales pitch. Of the 40+ boats attending there will surely be some that are ready for new sails! I know of one for sure!(Dauntless)If you get any positive feedback send them or their info my way and I'll follow up.
Manufacturers:
Bob Eeg of Montgomery boats is onboard as a Sponsor for the second year and will be attending the event. Thanks Bob! We also will have Steve Haines from Hardmoney Boatworks sponsoring us and attending. Steve is a Compac Dealer. Hey, Where's International Marine??? Are you kidding me? C'mon Potter guys. Get on the horn with IM and get them on board! I know you guys can do it. How about everyone using Idasailor stuff? I haven't heard back from them this year. If you are an Idasailor customer give 'em a call and tell them you'd like to see them attend as well. Catalina Guys? MacGregor Guys? C'mon and get your dealers down here to see what this is all about. This is OUR event and you guys have really jumped on board to help put it together. That's awesome.....let's keep it going! Together we drive this into a huge event if we can get these sponsors onboard and attending. Next year...100 boats??? :-)
Ok that's it....keep spreading the word. This thing is rolling now!
Thanks everyone. Make those phone calls and send the leads my way. I'll do the rest. Have a great weekend!
Sean and Bosun.......('Jo is still hiding probably until March!)

Jo and I both dive. we didn't dive Catalina when we were there summer before last but I sure wanted to! So far we have not used Dauntless for a base of diving 'cause we already seem to have too much "Stuff" aboard when we are in the cruising mode. Next time we head t Catalina, though, I think we will take your advice!!

Are there any other small boat sailors that dive? I know many sailors that don't dive and have dive buddies that for some reason don't have a boat. Am I the only one who loves both of these activities? It seems to me that doing one without the other leaves you with only having seen half the show. My wife and I towed our M17 from Idaho to Redondo Beach, sailed to Catalina and enjoyed diving at various locations outside Isthmas cove and the dive park at Avalon. We use our tandem sit on top kayak as the ship's tender, diving tender, and sit down surfboard. The trip to Catalina would have been good without the diving but only half as good. Thoughts anyone? Are there any brothers or sisters out there?

William,
There is no "registration" as it were, other than making your hotel reservations with the London Bridge Resort and then letting me know you have that done. At that point I will add you to the "who's coming" list on the website. For updates on the event you will want to "subscribe to this list if you haven't already. You can either receive daily digests or each post as an individual email.
As for your boat, as soon as I saw it I knew that I had recently seen boat very similar to it. I started going back through references and websites where I amy have seen it. Yeah, you guessed it...it was your posting in "Mystery Boat" in SCA! Ha! I knew I'd seen one. Unfortunately, I have no imformation for ya. I bet that an SCA reader will have some infor for you though in the next issue!

help identify?? I am planning to attend in Feb, and am starting total rebuild of this beauty. She is 1961 vintage, hull is built like iron. Steel bulb/fin keel, tons of bronze hardware on this boat...like fore/back stay atachements, running lights, hand holds cast bronze rudder.....even has bronze roller furling device for boom. Cabin has 5'4" standing headroom, 4 berths, head, galley. Everything on this is WAY overbuilt, but would sure love to know who made this craft. Also is there somewhere I need to preregister for Feb's Poker Fun Run? Thanks william

NEWS FLASH!!! Hey gang! Great news!! The Interlux Company, producers to Awlgrip yacht paints have come aboard to help sponsor the event. Not only that, but they will be sending Stan Sussman himself as a company rep to give us a little seminar on their products. What does this mean to you? If you have questions regarding painting your boat's deck, hull, bottom paint, rig, or blister protection...Stan will be able to answer your questions and recommend the appropriate products to make your boat look like new again! Normally, Stan is jet-setting around the globe overseeing paint jobs on million dollar yachts, but according to him, small sailboats, like ours, are where his heart lies. In fact, Stan used to own (and built along with Jerry Montgomery) the highly modified Montgomery 23 "Windward Skunk". If you aren't familiar with "The Skunk" go to www.msogphotosite.com then, click on the M23 section and look for The Skunk. It is a cut down M23 hull, with an M15 deck instead of the big M23 deck, with a fixed keel and lots of other mods that Stan built specifically for racing. It's a very unique boat. We are thrilled to have Stan, Interlux, and Awlgrip as sponsors! We'll be annoucing more about the seminar shortly but Stan says he loves to answer specific questions. So think about what you want to do to your boat and get your questions together. You will never hav a better opportunity to get real answers from a real expert like this! Make sure to give Stan a BIG thanks for getting Interlux and Awlgrip onboard with us and for making the time in his busy schedule to come on out and personally attend! WOW!!! Way Cool!!! :-)

Have you all been watching our Sponsor's list? Well, if not, you should be. We have some awesome folks that have stepped up to the plate to help make this the best get together so far. When you get a chance click on over to the website and check it out! Also...stay tuned...there are some big things in the works that we should be able to announce next week! The hotel tells me that they have 36 rooms/slips booked out. I think we are up to 44 boats registered but a few are locals and wont need hotel slips. Please make sure to get those reservations made if you haven't already done it. Let's fill all 50 slips at the hotel! Get a hold of your local buddies and get them to come on down and join in. This weekend the Hobie International Association is holding their "nationals" for some of their fleets here in Havasu. 140 boats were pre registered. I'm not sure how many are here but man there are a lot of sails out there and it is beautiful....I can't wait to see all you guys out there! Here's a math problem for you...they charged each boat $200 to $375 to register for the event! GULP Pick an number and multiply by 140 boats! Whew!! Interested in checking out their website? It's: http://www.havamega.com/OK...heading back in to work (overtime) tomorrow. I'll be home Sunday night and Monday. Email me with any questions and/or issues and I'll get them handled for you ASAP. Keep those sponsorship ideas and new participants coming in!!! You guys are doing a GREAT job at putting this thing together. It's just about to start feeding on it's own success!!! C'mon 50!!! (I can't believe I am actually saying that!) :-) Sean and Bosun (Jo has decided to take cover and is hiding!)

canyonbat, Thanks for the response, but I don't think traveling throught the heart of the mountains will work for us in Feb.. I am thinking that I would go down the front range thru Abq. and west from there. I also can't leave until monday. Laramie has it's challenges already and I wish not to add more with multiple passes. I do hope to be early and would enjoy meeting early. Thanks for to offer though.

Yes, the Western Slope of Colorado is watching te message board! We would be glad to convoy down if schedules permit. We are planning on leaving the Saturday before and spending the night somewhere along the way, maybe Las Vegas or Mesquite. We need to leave Havasu by mid day on Sunday, again spending the night somewhere and arriving in Grand Junction on Monday. Drop me an e-mail and we can talk about it - dougames@acsol.net. Doug and Katie Ames
PS - could you have them raise the level of Lake Powell as well? Another 50 feet or so would great! The hike from the bottom of the boat ramp up to the parking lot is a killer!

Metes,
Lets see...not everyone that has signed up has "subscribed" to the message board. So I'm not sure if all the CO contingent is on here or not. Let's do this. I am heading off to work in the morning and will be on duty for two days. When I get off I will make some time to get all the email addresses of the CO crowd together and make sure that you guys get in touch with each other. I totally agree with you. Traveling together can be a lot of fun and gives you piece of mind that if anything does go south on you, there is someone out there willing to give a hand.
In the mean time .... Any of you CO guys out there? Chime on in and feel free to use this board to communicate with one another. That's exactly what we have it up here for!

Great News and almost unbelievable! We've had some concern about some of the inside slips at the hotel with respect to depth. Lake Havasu is a reservoir and fluctuates between 446 feet above sea level and 450. Feb is a time of year when the lake is usually held at a lower level. At close to the 446 level we figured we might lose acccess to 5 or 10 slips. Well, it turns out that pretty much all you have to do to get the lake level up is make a phone call. Yeah, that surprised me! The Bureau of Reclamation considers recreation as one of the parameters when determining lake level. It's obviously not their top priority, but they will accomodate as much as possible. I spoke with them on the phone today and requested a lake level of 449 feet for the days of the event and they said "no problem, as long as there are no overiding concerns that should arise like melt off or power generation needs". Basically it sounds like a better than 90% chance that they can give us the lake level requested! I didn't even have to fill out any forms! WOW! Don't worry, I have a fall back plan in the works to should we lose some slips to shallow water...but now I'm thinking that we are fine to push on through to the 50 boat mark!!! So ...Bring 'em on!!!

Hey Gang, Short update here
Wow..things continue to move forward! I don't know if you've looked at the "who's coming" list on the website lately, but if not check it out! There are 38 boats now signed up ad I have been in contact with likely #39 and #40 today. Not only that...But #39 is the chairperson for the Lake Mead Sailing Club trialer sailors and wants to promote the event at his club. So, I would expect to probably pic up a couple more boats there! It wasn't long ago that we were wondering if we could actually top the 30 boat mark.....DONE!!! Then it was 40......I think we are about there!! And Now the number 50 looms on the horizon??!! WOW! That's just plain SCAREY!!! hahaha 50 of us in the same place at the same time?! Oh boy!!
All right, ...now...we need to talk about something here. The size of the event is exploding...way beyond where I or anyone else thought we'd get to for this year. No problem...We are gonna make it work and have an awesome event so keep 'em coming. But, the one issue that is going to come into play is available slips at the London Bridge Resort. There are about 50 slips there that we can use. However, in Feb, our lake is traditionally at it's lower level and that makes some of the inside slips very shallow and possibly unuseable. Fortunately, a lot of you guys can pull your boards and rudders up and draw very little water. We will depend on you guys to get into as shallow of a slip as we can get you into. I am anticipating that we should not have any problem using 40 of the 50 slips...probably more. BUT I am figuring that anything over 40 is a bonus and so once we have 40 boats booked at the hotel we'll be advising additional boats that they will be assigned a slip, but it is possible that it may not be useable due to water levels. We just won't know 'till we get close to the event. In that case there will be slips available at the marina which is only about a 3 minute drive from the hotel, however they will not be included in the $99/night rate. I beleve that the marina is getting $25/night for a transient slip. The other option would be to launch each day and store overnight on the trailer.
There is a boat rental operation in the channel right next to the hotel slips that does not utilize all it's slips in the winter time. I have talked to the owner and he seems receptive to possibly renting out some of those slips if we need them. This would be great because they are right there at the hotel and a lot easier to deal with than the marina. Huh Dan? (Dan can vouch for me... the marina can be a bit tough to deal with :-) ) I will follow up with him and see what kind of deal we can work out if need be. Maybe I can even get the hotel to help out on the rate, although, I don't know about that...we've already dropped them from $239/nt and $40/nt for a slip to $99/nt on a holiday weekend.
Don't panic! Right now we are fine. Of the 38 boats participating so far, a number of them are local and wont be using the hotel docks. So we are fine on slips as we speak. BUT...I am working with the hotel to make sure that slips are given out first come first served. Make your reservation and lock up your slip if you have not!! MAKE YOUR RESERVATION AND LOCK UP YOUR SLIP!!!! There is no deposit necessary and a 48 hour cancellation notice policy....SO MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS!!! The hotel is telling me that about 30 of you have actually booked as of last week. So some of you haven't . Please make the call!!
OK enough of that. I'm off on a "4 day" starting today and got a lot to do so stay tuned. Keep your ears and eyes open for anyone that might be a potential sponsor and send them my way if you think of someone!
Can't wait to see all those sails!

Don, As a kid I went quickly through the Sabots on into a Kite which pre-dates the Laser as the hot young adult boat. Getting back into a Sabot was quite a learning experience. Although they seem like a simple boat, there is a ton of tuning you need to know about to be competitive. But I would say 180 lbs is about tops to sail competively with the adult sabot group, although the Balboa Yacht Club Briney Bunch was a real fun group to sail with. I did sail in the adult Nationls (I think 2005) and we had over 40 boats in about 4 classes. I do know besides BYC, NHYC and ABYC both San Diego YC and MBYC have very large contingents of Sabots (junior and adult).

Jim.....I still can't believe how crazy the folks are out here for the Sabot's. Everyone has one it seems. They have a ton of them at MBYC also, and are very popular with not only the kids program, but with the adults too! I sailed one with the adult group at MBYC and I just couldn't get comfortable in the boat. Of course it was set-up for kids sailing. I hadn't sailed a small light boat for years and forgot about coming about smartly and getting in irons. I'm going to try sailing one again....once was not a fair judgement.

Don't worry Don, when I joined the one new boat a year club, I started getting a little light in the finance department and put everything up for sale that was not nailed down. Well Zoom was one of those items, she went to a lady that was in charge of the kid's racing program at Dana West Yacht Club, in fact the check to pay for the boat was from Dana West.

Knot on Duty!!! I luv it! :-)
Now now Don before you go poking at Jim's Sabot like that....I think I overheard the same exact conversation at the J-boat convention referring to Capris! It's all relative! ;-) Plus, you made all those claims about the "Monkey Killer" while Jim sat silently waiting in ambush to silence your grumblings...better watch out...keep it up and he's likely to show up with the sabot and clean your clock! That would REALLY be embarrasing!
As for 50 boats...well, if we start pushing numbers up into that region we'll have another issue to deal with and that is the number of slips avaialable at the hotel. They have about 50 slips but sometimes, depending on the water level some of the inside slips get too shallow to use. We can always get slips at the marina for overflow, but it certainly won't be as convenient and also will not be included in the price of the hotel room. I believe that they are getting $25/night there still for transient slips. Unfotunately, until we get right up to the time of the event, we won't know the exact number of slips we may use on the inside. That being said ....50 boats would be awesome...and if they are willing to come knowing what the slip situation is....Bring it on!!

Don, Youv'e got to look out for those pesky little sabot's. Just when you think you have one in your sights, another comes at you screaming STARBORD in an ear pearcing tone that makes you think your head will explode. As you tack to avoid scratches in your gelcoat from smashing through him another one luffs you into the shallows, OH CRAP, now your in their world, That big gun better be a simi-auto and have lots of ammo. LOL

OK you guys.....time to show your stuff. WHO OUT THERE IS "CONNECTED"?
Help me find more sponsors to really make this event go off. I have some great ones already lined up that you'll be hearing about soon...but the more the merrier. We want sponsors to attend the event. What kind of sponsors? Well anything "Trailer Sailor related". For instance: Sailmaker, Rigging Person, any kind of boat product like West System stuff or whatever if it applies to our boats, Aftermarket products for trailer sailors...whatever. Have you recently purchased new sails?, new boat?, new accesories? Get on the horn with the guys you just spent your $$$$ with and tell them that they ought to come to this event. The hotel has the facilities right on the water to put on a full vendor/manufacturer show. I was thinking that this would still be a few years before we grew the event that big...but...it seems you guys are coming so lets get them coming too! The key to getting them here is having the connection. I have only dealt with so many of them, but between us all we've dealt with most of them! Make them aware of the event, of how it is growing like crazy, and that you think it would be A GREAT place for them to come display their products of services. We have boats and crews coming from Arizona, California, Oregon, Nevada, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, even Texas and Wyoming! We are only a 2.5 hour drive from the airport in Las Vegas...that might even entice a few! Also, if you know of anyone that is trying to make the decision of what trailer sailor is right for them...tell them to come on down also. They can join in on the group rates. More of them will mean even that much more enticement for the vendors/manufacturers.
OK...So get to work....Let me know any ideas you have or contacts you may have made re: above. I'll follow up every lead you give me.

Hey Gang!
Wow...I'm Speechless!! (well, not really! Those of you that know me know my jaws never stop flappin and the volume is always too loud!)
Seriously though, the response that is coming in for this year's event is ....well it's great! If you haven't checked out the website lately you might want to take a look at the list of "who's coming". It's HUGE! We have boats and crews coming from Arizona, Texas, California, Nevada, Idaho, Washington, Wyoming, Colorado AND Oregon! Holly Cow!! That's awesome. Think of all the new friendships that are going to be formed! Way Cool!!
Oh yeah...the 30 boat mark that we were shooting for...forget it...it's not going to happen.........we are at 37 already!!!
Have you made your reservations yet? If not please do ASAP. No deposit is necessary to make them. Making them now will ensure that we have enough rooms blocked out and no-one gets left out. The big push was to get the event moved to this hotel was so that we keep the group together as much as possible and not split up at night to different locations like we had last year. I wish the event was starting today. It's about 85 degrees with winds of 15-20....Gorgeous!!
I apollogize for being a little slow on some email repsonses, or maybe a little short when texting from my phone. Big Brother at work doesn't allow us any internet access unless it is directly related to FD stuff....and for some reason they don't think sailboat stuff applies! Also, MJ Bosun and I were out of town for a while vacationing.
If you have any friends that are sitting on the fence as to "What trailer sailor do I want to buy?" ...Well, this is the place to come! Have them book a room, fly into Vegas and spend a fun day or two there, then rent a car and drive on over for the boat show. It's only a 2.5 hour drive ...SNOW FREE! They'll be able to get a look at Catalinas, Compacs, Potters, Montgomerys, MacGregors, Odays, Sanibels....and who knows what else might sign up. Where else are you gonna find that many makes of trailer sailors, in the water, side by side, with skippers right there ready to talk your ear off about their boats?! Now that's what I call "Market Research!" Maybe we'll even have a manufacturer or two??? Maybe??? ;-)
Many of you have offered your services to help pull this whole deal off. I want to really thank you for that. Yes, this year is gonna get a little "involved"!! hahaha I think things are under control for right now, but I will keep all the offers in mind. Don't be surprised if I take you up on it but I promise if I do it wont be a big deal. Thanks for all the offers. Together we are gonna make this a great event!
OK....enough for now.....your mission should you choose to accept it....spread the word...let's blow the socks off this town with a lake full of sails!!!! Woohoo!! Oh yeah, better get shopping for that UGLY Hawaiin shirt....I've heard tell that the competition is gonna be pretty stiff!!
Can't wait to see all our old friends and meet all the new ones.
Sean, 'Jo and yes, of course,...Bosun!

OK, something's been bugging me.....when you scroll down on the 2010 Havasu Pocket Cruisers web page, and you look at all the boat pictures with the quotes,as you get down to the bottom you come to the picture of Jim Ellsworth sailing his beautiful M-17 "Grace"....now the next picture down is Matt Marx, also sailing his classy M-17 "Lily". Now here's the issue. Both boats are basically the same. And both Jim and Matt in real life are fairly close in size....then why does Matt look like a pygmy in his boat, where Jim appears porportional in size in his boat?.....IS IT JUST ME????? :)

Hey gang!
Jo, Bosun, and I just returned from our little San Fran get-a-way late last night. What a great trip. We got to sail on a Catalina 42 in a Wed night beer can race, A Gulf 32 for a beautiful sunset sail on San Pablo Bay, and spent all day on Friday on a Catalina 320 sailing out under the Golden Gate Bridge only to sail back and watch the Fleet Week airshow take place right over our heads! Blue angels flying at mastop height right over us while we were sailing in 15-18 knots of winds. It was awesome!! Our friend and fellow "Poker Runner" Dave and Francesca Kautz set that up for us with their friend Randy on Randy'a boat. WOW!!!WE also ventured all the way up to Brookings Oregon to visit our Buddy Todd who is renovating his beautiful home that overlooks the Coast Guard Station and harbor entrance to Brookings, visited the Redwoods for the first time, and went hot-air ballooning with our friends Scott and Kevin that I used to fly for over the Napa Valley. To say we had a full trip would be an understatement! We are so furtunate to have made sooo many great friends over the years.
OK...so now that I am back it's time to get back to business! I'm back on the Poker Run full time again. Have you noticed how many sign ups we've had. Check it out on the website. We've blown right past the 30 boat mark!! Woohoo!! If you have not made your reservations at the London Bridge Resort, please do so asap. Rooms are filling up.
Sal---- I can't take too much credit for this message board. It's just another Idea I pirated from Howie of the Socal Potters. He uses the same deal and it works so good there I did the same thing. I guess I should be paying him royalties!!
Bill and Darrel --- Bill, you better get the movie "wind" now and see what Darrel is talking about...report back your findings! and Darrel...while we were up there with Dave and Francesca they told us to tell you that we expect you to bring your banjo!!!
OK gang...I'll be posting updates as necessary....
Sean, Jo, and yes, of course....Bosun!

Steve, yep..you can get tot the Hotel without going under the bridge. The only event that not fitting under the bridge would affect you in would be the circumnavigation of the Island. The hotel is right beside the bridge and you have to go under either coming or going in order to "circumnavigate". But it's not a big deal really. How much clearance do you need? Dauntless needs 34 feet and we make it with a little room to spare, but not much.

Monkey (read: Montgomery) Killer is Don's pet name for his new mainsail for his Capri-18, ha ha. Among this laid back trailer-sailing bunch, I think that's as close to fighting words as we'll ever come. Somewhere in the archives of last year's message board is even a picture of Don holding that rolled up sail like a bazooka, pointed at the monty fleet. Last year's Havasu fest set off a bit of sail-buying activity, unfortunately for the bank accounts. One downside of a 17-mile "race", I mean, "cruise" down the lake...equipment envy!
I'm sure this year's massive collection of boats will be the inspiration for any number of modifications, and I'm looking forward to it.

It's in reference to a smart-butt comment I made about my "full batten main" being a "Monkey Killer"......all in good fun trash-talk. If I could relate it to car guys....you have the Ford guys and you have Chevy guys.....I'm the guy who shows up in a Rambler.....

Dan, What may I ask is a "Monkey Killer" ?
I would hope these not be 'fightin words' or a disparging name for a brand of 'fun machines'.
Inquiring minds want to know.
Anxiously waiting an explanation -

I posted a link to the event on the Capri-18 web site and it seems like there is a couple that is planning on making the trip!
Here was their response:
Thanks for the link Don. We booked yesterday and they gave us the special rate for the whole week. He did say say they were filling up fast, especially with the one bedroom units at the special rate. We can't wait!
Looks like we'll have a couple "Monkey Killer's" this year!
This event is still four months away and we're as excited about this event as we were for the Catalina trip!

Hey guys, Thanks for all the messages. I've been on duty the last couple of days so was unable to reply....that dang work thing you know! :-)
Oh yeah, this is looking to be a great turnout! I will be in touch with the Hotel on Monday to see about upping from 30 rooms/slips to 40 as it seems we may just blow right past the 30 boat mark!! Unbelieveable!!
Keep spreading the word! If we run out of rooms and slips we'll figure something out. The numbers of participants coming is what is gonna make this a great event. The more of you that come, the more enticing it is for us to attract great sponsors. My vision for this is to go full-on convention style as the event grows in the years to come. That would include even having speakers/seminars/workshops/display type events put on by the sponsors and vendors. The London Bridge Resort has the facilities to support all of this. It's taken three years, but we are growing the event pretty rapidly now. I think that breaking out into the full-on "convention" mode is just around the corner.
Keep this in mind, though. As I have always said...this event is about you! You guys make the event...period. You will never pay an entry fee to come here and participate. No matter how big it grows, we'll find a way to keep it that way. Think that's crazy? Well, check out the Albuquerque Baloon Fiesta held every year. 900 to 1000 balloons particpate from all over the world. It's a 10 day event. Not only do they not charge competitors to partipate...but they pay ALL their lodging and fuel expenses if they come! The community realizes that they event is great for the them and there is no event without the balloonists. This is my model. I don't ever forsee this getting THAT big, but I do see potential for huge growth. After we pull this year off and show how much interest there is, I am going to approach the local community to see how much support we can muster up. You guys are getting to the numbers now that you are bringing some significant $$ into this economy during a time of year that our lake is underused. It's a perfect fit. So c'mon!! Talk your buddies into caravaning with you and lets grow this thing!!
I'm so excited about this year...can you tell?!!

Hi, We sure would love to come. But might not make it this year? Years ago when I was Commodore of a sailing club in Arizona, we had a great weekend sailing there. I stayed a extra week, because we liked it so much. When I was sailing in Fleet 66(Hobie Fleet), we has a few races up there, and would you know, no wind. But the time we went with the mono-hulls, we had lots of wind?? Figure that would you?? Happy Sailing Capt. Tony

Reservations are made...calendar is marked "out of office"...I'm all set for another year of fun in the desert! Thanks Sean and Jo for playing hosts again for what is sure to be an outstanding event.
Now, the boat show, that's another matter. I've been putting off necessary repairs to the woodwork, and the bronze ports don't shine any more (did they ever?). Problem is, I already have a job, [insert whine] and I want to spend my weekends sailing! I'll get busy though, to pay respects to what will be the Sensational Southwest Sailboat Show and Havasu Concours d'Elegance!
