Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention 2013

Welcome to the Message Board for the 2013 Havasu Pocket Cruisers Convention!

Please use this board to receive information and updates on the progress of event planning, to contact event staff, and most importantly, to keep in touch with all your HPCC friends year round! If you are new to the group PLEASE jump right in and introduce yourself. The internet forum is a great way to establish friends before you ever even arrive here for your first event. If you participate in it, you will find yourself searching out your message board friends as soon as you get here. What an easy way to break the ice!

We do ask that you refrain from politcal topics. There are forums for those elsewhere. Come here.....and be a sailor!!

We can't wait for all you guys to arrive, old friends and new. If you have a questions do not hesitate to post it. Myself or one of our HPCC veterans will answer it ASAP.

If you need the link to our main web site you find it at:

Getting ready to head out on our Dana Point to Mission Bay trip. One more day to dot the I's and cross the t's and we are off to SD to pick up our crew member and then on to Dana Point to launch.

If all goes as planned we will be leaving Dana Point Friday AM around 07:00 and arriving at Mission Bay around 20:00. Theory has it that there will be some of Denny's famous pizza waiting for Mick and I when we get there!

Boat is as ready as it will ever be!

Should be an adventure!

I'm sure there is more but, I really don't need more experience at this point.....Will see if there is even sailing this weekend because of the fire.,,,..Went from 5-7 acres at noon to over 5000 acres now...I am able to see the fire as it expands from my window....It's about 18 miles from my house.....Nasty.....

Doug=Iwas at Watson Lake here in Prescott, Az...Its a small lake, great for small boats and only about 15 min from my house....As you know winds can be shifty on small lakes....Wimds were about 18 mph with gusts and occasional whirlwinda.....I was coming about, a gust hit and then a whirlwind....Worst, The main sheet broke loose so I tacked, jibbed, wet....I was by myself but there were four others sailing so wasn't to bad....Bailed, reinserted the swinf keel and sailed back to the dock...Today I vacumned another 10 or 12 gal out....Will be sailing this Sun.....Pride????I was kinda proud as I sailed back to the dock...

With a sad heart I watched ACT III sail out of my driveway for the last time yesterday, but it went to a nice Dad with three young sons down in Eugene so it will see a lot of use on Fern Ridge Reservoir in the coming years. Maybe I'll see it up in the Cascade's alpine lakes someday. The little sail kit for my Hobie Revolution II should come in today or tomorrow so I'll need to be content with that until I find my new project for 2015's Regatta! Anybody know of a nice Sun Cat for sale? I think the Wilcox's really should be thinking about a bigger boat, don't you Richard??

Cheers, John

Garvin - what a great Fathers Day present. A story you will tell for years to come. Where were you and were you alone when this grand adventure happened? Any injuries besides your pride?

Finally flipped my wwp 15 in squirly winds....Broke the main sheet cleat and we had a round a bout ride till she went over on a jib.....takes about 4 plus hours to bail out then back to the dock to do some more bailing.....HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!!!!

Our charts arrived for the North Shore of Lake Superior's Thunder Bay and Isle Royale environs. Never been there, but we are prepping "CanCan" for a cruise there in late August in company with Karen and Jerry's C&C "Mystic" ("Good Old Boat" Flagship). We will launch and retrieve in Thunder Bay and they are sailing up from Duluth to meet up with us. These are Karen and Jerry's home waters, so we have some very experienced mentors to teach us about sailing on Lake Superior. Now, if I can just find my Gordon Lightfoot CDs and make sure they make it on board...<g>

Gabi & Rob, wondering if the wolves on Isle Royale prefer "Milk Bones" over sailors?

I would like some suggestions or ideas of how to keep my jib hanks from getting hung up on the swaged end of the forestay turnbuckle.

I hope everyone is having a good sailing season so far be safe have fun.

Thanks Gary and Liz

Hey Mike,

as it stands now, there will not be a HPCC event for 2014. But that doesn't mean you can't come up to Havasu and sail. Since I'm a local here in Havasu, I'll be out there every weekend and I know others may be enjoying the same time of year on the water as well. :)

Someone is spreading the rumor that there won't be an event this year? I'm still trying to talk someone from around Mesa, AZ into going on my Macgregor 19 since my wife won't take that much time off work. Mike 480 620 0184

William, sounds like an awesome experience! I know you'll make the most of it, too. :-) We'll miss you in the San Juans, though. We head out early tomorrow morning for the drive to Anacortes. And no, I haven't forgotten. I'll check at Skyline Marina to see if they are still holding your dinghy oars for you.
