Sean, one other product that trailer sailors might be interested in would be the pottibag. Nearly all of us have had the unpleasant opportunity to deal with trasporting the potti. The pottibag doesn't make it pleasant but, perhaps a little less unpleasant. Check out www.pottibag.com. | | |

Super Dorothy,
I have seen his name many times. I will try to contact him as well next week. Great idea and thank you for tip and effort. We sure are looking forward to seeing you guys again. You should be all snuggled up in your new Monty Sweatshirts directly as they are in the mail!

I have no idea if Bill Tosh is interested in coming but when I saw that you were looking for a sailmaker, I forwarded the email to him. We met him last spring at Lake Palestine in Texas. He also sails an M-17.

Possible sponsor? Hi Sean I don't know anyone at yeti coolers but their products are fantastic and would be of interest to small boat cruisers. They have a web site with a contact number. I tried to call today but only got an answering machine. You may want to try again during the week. Good job on all you ahve accomplished so far. Thanks

Hey Everyone!
Well, here's this week's update:
Great News Again!!!
Josh and Craig over at Small Craft Advisor Magazine let me know yesterday that they are on board with being Sponsors of the event for the third time. Woohoo!!! Each year a number of you guys have gone home with year long subscriptions to SCA. It's the magazine that supports EXACTLY the type of sailing, boats, and crews that are just like us. I will be adding them to the website today. If you get a chance, get on their website, go to their message board, and post a big thank you to them so we can acknowledge their support publically. There website is www.smallcraftadvisor.com PLEASE TRY TO DO THIS!! Also, Josh has asked me to be thinking about a recap article of the entire event once it concludes for publication in the magazine. Way cool. In the next issue of SCA you will see an ad for the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Poker Run!
OK...Next is the Hotel update:
I spoke with the Hotel yesterday. We have 38 of the 40 rooms/slips they blocked-out booked. There are only 4 more 1 bedroom suites left in the hotel and they have all been assigend to be held for our event. I expect them to book...so, they have given us a deal on 6 two-bedroom suites as well. The two-bedroom suites are 2bed/2 bath, so having two boats share a suite is totally do-able. They will also allow two crews that are sharing a suite to each obtain a slip. Our two-bedroom suites group rate is $159.00 per night, another great deal. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get your rooms booked ASAP. There is a big fireworks convention in town the same weekend and the town will be full of the "pyro-people" (a breed amongst themselves!).
I am working with the Hotel and we will be using their convention center building for a seminar to be put on by Stan Sussman of Interlux/Awlgrip on the products that they make to make your boat look beautiful. Stan is an expert in this area, usually overseeing paint jobs on million dollar yachts! So if you have been wishing you knew how to paint your own boat, or get confused when you look at all the different products out there, like I do, you won't want to miss this!
We are looking into doing a t-shirt/sweatshirt or embroidered ballcap for the event. So I am posing this question. Is there any interest in this? The balllcap would be easier because we wouldn't have to make so many sizes and it is pretty easy to customize with the name of your boat on the side of the hatband. But lots of folks don't wear caps. If we did do this it would be a prepaid order kind of deal as I'm just not gonna have the spare $$ to front for the t-shirt design and production. Sorry but that's the only way as a lot of little $$ items are adding up quickly. Send me any feedback.
Sailmaker:
WE NEED A SAILMAKER TO ATTEND THIS EVENT! So far nothing is lined up. Have you purchased sails recently. If so, get on the horn with your favorite sailmaker and talk him into coming down, doing a seminar on sailcare/tuning/maintenance and to give a good sales pitch. Of the 40+ boats attending there will surely be some that are ready for new sails! I know of one for sure!(Dauntless)If you get any positive feedback send them or their info my way and I'll follow up.
Manufacturers:
Bob Eeg of Montgomery boats is onboard as a Sponsor for the second year and will be attending the event. Thanks Bob! We also will have Steve Haines from Hardmoney Boatworks sponsoring us and attending. Steve is a Compac Dealer. Hey, Where's International Marine??? Are you kidding me? C'mon Potter guys. Get on the horn with IM and get them on board! I know you guys can do it. How about everyone using Idasailor stuff? I haven't heard back from them this year. If you are an Idasailor customer give 'em a call and tell them you'd like to see them attend as well. Catalina Guys? MacGregor Guys? C'mon and get your dealers down here to see what this is all about. This is OUR event and you guys have really jumped on board to help put it together. That's awesome.....let's keep it going! Together we drive this into a huge event if we can get these sponsors onboard and attending. Next year...100 boats??? :-)
Ok that's it....keep spreading the word. This thing is rolling now!
Thanks everyone. Make those phone calls and send the leads my way. I'll do the rest. Have a great weekend!
Sean and Bosun.......('Jo is still hiding probably until March!)

Hey Dave,
Jo and I both dive. we didn't dive Catalina when we were there summer before last but I sure wanted to! So far we have not used Dauntless for a base of diving 'cause we already seem to have too much "Stuff" aboard when we are in the cruising mode. Next time we head t Catalina, though, I think we will take your advice!!

Are there any other small boat sailors that dive? I know many sailors that don't dive and have dive buddies that for some reason don't have a boat. Am I the only one who loves both of these activities? It seems to me that doing one without the other leaves you with only having seen half the show. My wife and I towed our M17 from Idaho to Redondo Beach, sailed to Catalina and enjoyed diving at various locations outside Isthmas cove and the dive park at Avalon. We use our tandem sit on top kayak as the ship's tender, diving tender, and sit down surfboard. The trip to Catalina would have been good without the diving but only half as good. Thoughts anyone? Are there any brothers or sisters out there?

William,
There is no "registration" as it were, other than making your hotel reservations with the London Bridge Resort and then letting me know you have that done. At that point I will add you to the "who's coming" list on the website. For updates on the event you will want to "subscribe to this list if you haven't already. You can either receive daily digests or each post as an individual email.
As for your boat, as soon as I saw it I knew that I had recently seen boat very similar to it. I started going back through references and websites where I amy have seen it. Yeah, you guessed it...it was your posting in "Mystery Boat" in SCA! Ha! I knew I'd seen one. Unfortunately, I have no imformation for ya. I bet that an SCA reader will have some infor for you though in the next issue!

help identify?? I am planning to attend in Feb, and am starting total rebuild of this beauty. She is 1961 vintage, hull is built like iron. Steel bulb/fin keel, tons of bronze hardware on this boat...like fore/back stay atachements, running lights, hand holds cast bronze rudder.....even has bronze roller furling device for boom. Cabin has 5'4" standing headroom, 4 berths, head, galley. Everything on this is WAY overbuilt, but would sure love to know who made this craft. Also is there somewhere I need to preregister for Feb's Poker Fun Run? Thanks william

NEWS FLASH!!! Hey gang! Great news!! The Interlux Company, producers to Awlgrip yacht paints have come aboard to help sponsor the event. Not only that, but they will be sending Stan Sussman himself as a company rep to give us a little seminar on their products. What does this mean to you? If you have questions regarding painting your boat's deck, hull, bottom paint, rig, or blister protection...Stan will be able to answer your questions and recommend the appropriate products to make your boat look like new again! Normally, Stan is jet-setting around the globe overseeing paint jobs on million dollar yachts, but according to him, small sailboats, like ours, are where his heart lies. In fact, Stan used to own (and built along with Jerry Montgomery) the highly modified Montgomery 23 "Windward Skunk". If you aren't familiar with "The Skunk" go to www.msogphotosite.com then, click on the M23 section and look for The Skunk. It is a cut down M23 hull, with an M15 deck instead of the big M23 deck, with a fixed keel and lots of other mods that Stan built specifically for racing. It's a very unique boat. We are thrilled to have Stan, Interlux, and Awlgrip as sponsors! We'll be annoucing more about the seminar shortly but Stan says he loves to answer specific questions. So think about what you want to do to your boat and get your questions together. You will never hav a better opportunity to get real answers from a real expert like this! Make sure to give Stan a BIG thanks for getting Interlux and Awlgrip onboard with us and for making the time in his busy schedule to come on out and personally attend! WOW!!! Way Cool!!! :-)

Have you all been watching our Sponsor's list? Well, if not, you should be. We have some awesome folks that have stepped up to the plate to help make this the best get together so far. When you get a chance click on over to the website and check it out! Also...stay tuned...there are some big things in the works that we should be able to announce next week! The hotel tells me that they have 36 rooms/slips booked out. I think we are up to 44 boats registered but a few are locals and wont need hotel slips. Please make sure to get those reservations made if you haven't already done it. Let's fill all 50 slips at the hotel! Get a hold of your local buddies and get them to come on down and join in. This weekend the Hobie International Association is holding their "nationals" for some of their fleets here in Havasu. 140 boats were pre registered. I'm not sure how many are here but man there are a lot of sails out there and it is beautiful....I can't wait to see all you guys out there! Here's a math problem for you...they charged each boat $200 to $375 to register for the event! GULP Pick an number and multiply by 140 boats! Whew!! Interested in checking out their website? It's: http://www.havamega.com/OK...heading back in to work (overtime) tomorrow. I'll be home Sunday night and Monday. Email me with any questions and/or issues and I'll get them handled for you ASAP. Keep those sponsorship ideas and new participants coming in!!! You guys are doing a GREAT job at putting this thing together. It's just about to start feeding on it's own success!!! C'mon 50!!! (I can't believe I am actually saying that!) :-) Sean and Bosun (Jo has decided to take cover and is hiding!)
