Havasu Pocket Cruisers Message Board

Welcome to the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Message Board. This is where we put together the annual Havasu Pocket Cruiser Convention held each Feb in Lake Havasu City, AZ. The 2011 Event is now in the History Books. We ended up with 127 boats attending and an additional 20 "boatless" crews that flew/drove in to attend the event. WOW, what a great event!

Well...believe it or not, we're already thinking about 2012! Last year the goal was 100 boats....we far exceeded that and doubled our numbers from 2010. What will 2012 bring? More? Less? Who knows!? What you guys want is what you get. This is YOUR event. I've even seen the number 200 mentioned...and yes,...we CAN handle that if there are that many or more of you that want to attend. Remember, the more that attend, the better event we can put on. So Bring It On!! -)

The 2011 Event Web Site will remain up as an example of what the event is. We'll build a new site for the 2012 event with the 2012 specifics as we get further into the year.

There is a "2011 Event Recap" webpage on the website with links to videos, photos, and articles about the 2011 event.

The Main Event Website is:

http://www.sailhavasu.com

We also have a link to our Flickr Photo Sharing from the event...so far there are around 2000 photos uploaded...Check them out at:

It's less than 12 months now till the start of HPCC 2012! Start planning your trip!!! We'd love to have you join us!

High winds, warm temps, lots of campers in the Colorado mountains = forest fire danger.

"the lake innundated with memorial day revelers.from CA." Look on the bright side, the folks visiting lake Havasu this weekend cant start the lake or the desert on fire.

Gary and Liz,

Few boats tug at my heart strings like the Montgomery 23...which is why I sail one. But some friends of ours had a Beneteau First 26, the big sister to "Resolute", and it too was a boat that I fell in love with. What a fantastic looking and sailing boat it was. I know "Resolute" is going to be "that" boat for you guys!! She is a super looking boat and I know she is going to sail like a shot! Awesome!

I looked up synonyms to "Resolute" and found this:

Synonyms
1. firm, steadfast, fixed. See earnest1 . 2. unwavering, undaunted.

and when I looked up "Dauntless" I found this:

Synonyms
1. undaunted, daring, indomitable, brave, courageous.

Sweet! Dauntless and Resolute are related!!! I can't wait till they meet. Seems they share the same personality traits!!!!! :-)

Has anyone stuck their finger in the hole in the Lake Hattie dam and do you have enough snow melt

Resolute launched yesterday evening at Boyd Lake put on a mooring. Only took two plus hours set and launch for the first time.

Sean the a-frame mast raising gizmo you advised me worked great. Only tough part was getting the mast at a high enough angle to pin the mast. The mast is much lower than the cabin top. I made a telescoping mast crutch out of aluminum tubing and an old trailer winch to get the mast at the proper angle.

The easiest part of the launch was the strap launch which was mine and Liz biggest concern. We needed all thirty feet of the 40,000 Lbs rated strap to float Resolute off the trailer, just got a little bit of the rear tires on the Xterra wet. Strap launch method worked like a charm had some power boaters wondering what we were doing then they were amazed.

Bruce and Shirley, Liz’s parents showed up Bruce helped and Shirley supervised she also brought home baked cookies peanut butter or oatmeal, I had one of each. I believe cookies are a food group.
Shirley took the photo.

It must be cool up there. Are temps have dropped 2012 degrees in two days and the wind is howling. Unfotunately, the lake innundated with memorial day revelers.from CA. No room for locals out there especially in a sailboat. Cmon November!

After about 20minutes of work with the leftovers of the headlight restore kit.....we now have this: See above

I'm liking this! The kit is $20 and I should be able to do 3 ports per kit. So ...$40 and I will have transparent ports again rather than the hundreds of dollars to replace them!!! Woohooo!

Hey Gang...back from the doughnut shop...

I got a little sidetracked on project this morning that I was thinking about the whole 48 hours at work.

The other day I decided that the Land yachts headlights were just too yellow and needed to be replaced. I had tried a "restore" kit on them before with very little noticeable success. But,,..I was stumbling through Wally World and saw a different "restore" kit made by 3M. It included a pad with a mandrel to use in the drill instead of sanding an buffing by hand. I decided to give it a try. WOW! I am telling you I could not believe the results. Incredible. My headlights literally look like new.

hmmmmmm..........

Dauntless has 6 large opening ports that are made by Grey Marine. They are polycarbonate and the sun has worked her magic on them over the years rendering them opaque. This really detracts from Dauntless' appearance and limits the light getting inside. It also prevents looking though the ports at all as you can only see shapes and shadows through them. Sooooo....I thought....I got some of this headlight kit left....let's see what happens. After all...they are opaque at this point...they cant be made any worse....this is the port looked like when trying to view through it.

It looks like Shadowfax is going to have to wait a couple of days to see the water. Winds gusting to 75 MPH tomorrow is a bit much! Add to that an overnight low of 28 on Sunday night. We are thinking Monday we might take her up, rig her and get her into the slip. Maybe a quick afternoon sail if things settle down.
