Doctor Michon Hawkons posted this site. She is a chiropractor that focuses of kinesiology to help with building muscle strength and to provide proper care of the spinal cord and nerves. This site also covers daily things you should do to take care of you spine and nerves. I think they are posting this site to give information out to the public and to acquire business.

Website #1: Advanced Spinal Care

This website has in-depth information and covers many aspects of one's overall health, but it doesn't just focus on the surgical procedures or medical treatments. I really enjoyed reading about the x-ray analysis and how it is customized by individual; what a nice change from the "one size fits all" or the thinking "one machine can be used for anyone of any size."

Website #2: Michon Hawkins, D.C.

This is a personal website from a chiropractor, and is very informative. I believe that one who writes from their own experience is a viable source. The two best things about this website was the 'Chart of Effects of Spinal Misalignments' and the 'Special Features.' All of the topics in 'Special Features' were informative and gave real life perspectives to how we live our lives; amazing to think about!

Website #3: Spinal Care Center

This care facility offers a new technique that is useful and hlepful for curing spinal cord injuries. The two best things about this website were the sections: Lumbar Cervial Decompression and Sublaxation. Lumbar Cervical Decompression is not well-known and should be heard about more often, because it is non-surgical way to find relief from multiple problems. Sublaxation was fascinating to read and learn about what it actually is! I found reading about the different components - bone, nerve, muscle, soft tissue, and chemical - to be well-rounded and interesting.

Website #4: New Research May Aid Future Treatment for Spinal Cord Injury

The resource (WebMD) was presented in a way that "strangers" to the medical world are able to understand the complexities of diseases and treatments. In this study, I believe that their research is too narrow, and therefore, their evidence is limited. The two best things about this website is the credible and in-depth medical news and references that are provided for each specific disease or condition. I also find it very convenient to have a website that covers children, men, and women.

Advanced Spinal Care offers a very brief introduction into a really interesting topic. The site is easy to navigate and the languaging is clear. I feel the desire for more information. The x-rays are indeed interesting, although I am not sure how to spot the dysfunction.

Hawkins’ site is great. Although definitely coming from a biased position, Hawkins really clarifies what it is chiropractors are supposed to do. I found the information on the effects of nerve impingement on the organs to be especially interesting. Think of all the digestive problems a subluxation could cause. I think it very important however to read the content with full awareness that the information is not objective. Everybody thinks they have the miracle cure.

Spinal care center site offers those great x-rays. Even I can see the progression of degeneration. The Lumbar decompression is an interesting answer to the chronic pain so many people suffer. I love learning about the alternatives to drugs and the suppression of symptoms. Once again I think it important to keep in mind the intention of the site which is to sell a product. The information however seems really good.

I agree with your comment about the narrowness of the scope of the article. But how cool! I can’t wait to learn more about the brain. I think the site expands the topic into the mystery of the nervous system and it’s own ability to heal. The body capacity to right itself is amazing. Through the first several sites that slant seems to be lacking. I do wonder the direct correlation to chiropractic and the regeneration of nervous system tissues.

Thank you for your topic! Jen Perkins

Website 1:
The first thing that caught my interest in this website was that NUCCA preforms non-invasive spinal correction. I was also intrigued by the fact that so many functioning impairments are due to the C-1 vertebrae. The precision involved in this technique was also facinating to me. I also appreciated the comparison of this technique to other forms of chiropractics, since I am unfamiliar with this subject. This organization also offers a great wholistic approach to maintaining health such as, good nutrition and mental health. I would have liked a few more visuals to go along with all of this great info, however, I found it very informitive overall.
Website 2:
I found this site more informative than the first because I learned a lot about the spinal cord overall. The Doctor condensed information on spinal problems ranging from scoliosis to subluxations in infants. I also appreciated the chiropractic tips that were given to prevent future spinal problems. This site also concluded with a great quote: "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease." — Thomas Edison; I would have liked more information on procedures preformed in this clinic.
Website 3:
My favorite part of this website was the nerve chart. I was also excited to see lots of pictures! However, I didn’t think this site was as effective as the other two, but I liked how this site had a section devoted to pediatrics and a list of links. I felt like this site was for advertising purposes.
Website 4:
I thought this article was interesting because I could relate it back to my topic of neuroplasticity. However, I didn’t find it as informative because the research was limited. I enjoyed reading it but I liked the wholistic approaches of the first two sites the best.
Overall, I really learned a lot about chiropractic care from your four website choices. Thanks!

Website 1 Web MD
Web MD was a very interesting site. I liked how they had so many facts and gives spinal injury patients hope for a full recovery and a better understanding about their condition.
I also liked how the website did not use a bunch of high tech words that not every body could understand.

Website 2 Spinal Care Center
I felt this website was fairly well constructed for a private website. I liked how t was easy to navigate through the website but I felt they could have put more information about the actual chiropractic care itself. I thought the website had good graphics though.

Website 3 Michon Hawkins MD
Dr Michon Hawkins’ website is a little boring in appearance but it was very informative and full of great tips for keeping your spine and nerves in good shape and functioning at their best.

Website 4 Spinal Care and NUCCA
This website was for me, personally a great website because it actually help me understand what problem I actually have wrong with my neck. It helped me to understand a little better than I have before. I also felt that the website could have elaborated on the facts a little bit more.

Angela,
Nice succinct job of telling us who posted these websites, why and what to expect at each one. I think your peers have done a great job of analyzing strong and weak points for the websites. for your reviews, I would choose one from WebMD or the National Cervical Chirpractic for a major website
then one from Spinal Care Center or Micon Hawkins for a minor website.

I don't see evals of your peers website choices.

The National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association NUCCA is dedicated to advanced spinal care. http://www.advancedspinalcare.com/nucca.htm
After review this site I found it to be very educational and extremely easy to understand. Maneuvering through this site is very easy and each new page is full of new and helpful information about spinal and nervous system care.
The National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association is posting this website for general information for the public and for people that are interested in studying chiropractic care to gain more knowledge about their school. This site covers how chiropractors go about adjusting the spine to help the nervous system, and how diet and mental thought play an important role in keeping your body along with your nervous system in a healthy working order. To understand the information on this site you need a basic knowledge of the spinal column and what the nervous system does for our body. You also need to be aware of how your body uses the food and environment you give it. The NUCCA explains how adjusting the atlas which is the first vertebrae located at the base of the skull can start the processes in healing the nervous system along with other parts of the body. When adjusting the spine it can relieve stress put on the nerves by the vertebrae that are misaligned allowing for a free pathway for the nervous system to heal the body. This is not always the only way in which to heal the nervous system. The NUCCA has dedicated a large portion of their site to educating the public the importance in a healthy diet. A great example they used was explaining that the human body is like a car and that in order to keep the engine working properly you need to keep the fluids clean and that our body is the same way. With a well nutrient diet the nervous has a fighting chance in keeping the body in working condition. The second view point they had was that a healthy diet consists of good mental state. Your mental outlook on life can effect your bodies overall health. This makes sense because if your mental outlook on the situations in life are negative and you stress and worry and continually put your self on the edge your body begins to predict these situations and it takes a toll on your nervous system. The NUCCA explains how the body needs to be in an overall healthy state at all times in order to function properly and heal its self. Alone having your spine aligned is not good enough for total body health. Diet and healthy mental thoughts are needed to gain overall health for your body.
The first best features about this site is that the information is very well organized and easy to understand . This site has the main topics along the top of each page making it easy to switch back and forth between each idea. When choosing an idea such as health the information is also laid out in a very well organized manner and the NUCCA provides examples to help the reader better understand the information being portrayed. Such as the example with keeping the fluids in cars new in reference to the food we put into our body. The second best feature is that the NUCCA covers a wide range of ideas that involve the care of the nervous system. The NUCCA informs the readers about spinal column care of adjusting the atlas, a nutrient diet, mental health, and exercise. Each topic relates back to the other and shows the importance of each one in order to achieve a healthy nervous system. Angela Erceg

Michon Hawkins, D.C.
http://www.michonhawkins.com/spinalcare.html

This site is very helpful in learning about the spinal column and how it affects the nerves. Hawkins did a very well job in informing the public about chiropractic care and I would recommend this site to others who were interested in learning.
Doctor Michon Hawkins posted this site. She is a chiropractor that focuses of kinesiology to help with building muscle strength and to provide proper care of the spinal cord and nerves. This site also covers daily things you should do to take care of you spine and nerves. I think she is posting this site to give information out to the public and to acquire business.

This site takes a very helpful and organized approach to informing the public. Dr. Hawkins begins by explaining what perfect health is, that it “is a state of complete physical, mental, or social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease of infirmity.” The she talks about physical development starting with when were are a single cell that continues to divide until we are the organism we are today. Dr. Hawkins does an excellent job in teaching the basic layout of a human body so that the reader can better understand how chiropractic care helps the nervous system. It is very important to realize how the spinal cord comes off the brain and runs down the spinal vertebrae and that between each vertebra nerves emerges and run to all over the body. The brain and spinal cord make up the nervous system and when these nerves are pinched by adjacent vertebrae it can cause serous pain this is called subluxations. It is also to be able to understand that the nervous system controls all body function. http://www.michonhawkins.com/spinalcare.html

The first best feature about this website is that Dr. Hawkins really try’s to explain to the reader how the body works and how by having a chiropractor adjusts your spinal column your body can begin to heal its self and then be able to keep this state of health. Dr. Hawkins specializes in applied kinesiology which is test muscle strength. When a nerve supplying a particular muscle or organ is being pinched it can cause that muscle to be weaker or cause the organ to eventually fail. By adjusting the spine your chiropractor relieves that stress allowing for the organ or muscle to strengthen and heal its self.

The second feature about this website is the she provides a chart of effects of spinal misalignments. This is really nice because it shows how much our body is affected by misaligned vertebrae. http://www.michonhawkins.com/spinalmisalignments.html

The National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association Review

I enjoyed reading your review of the NUCCA website. You have supplied us with a lot of information, but make sure that you re-read to catch the grammatical errors. How does this website relate back to the basics of anatomy and physiology? This portion seemed a little unclear when reading; a suggestion is to say, “NUCCA relates back to our studies, because…” You did a nice job explaining the best features of the website, but you didn’t mention the two worst features. If you can’t find any problems, I’d just say that! Overall, the first website review is well done.

I can’t really find anything major that needs to be added to your review. I would only suggest that you go back through this review to check for grammatical errors and some misspelled words. Other than that, you did a nice job!

This is a great concise review. I really appreciated the look at the effect of the atlas on the functioning of the system. You gave a great summary of the content of the site. I noticed a lack of constructive feedback about the site. Other than that everything was there. I also noticed a couple of grammatical things ( I think you left out the word system in there). Thanks for sharing your interest. Jen

On Michael Hawkins:
I think a meatier title would be good. Once again I didn’t catch what you did not like about the site. I love the quote you embedded. Our body is the story of our experiences. I also think you could go into the goal of chiropractic in a little more detail. Thanks again for the topic. jen

Your review on the Michon Hawkins, D.C. website overall was pretty good. There are some grammatical errors though that should be fixed and maybe re-read your essay to try and make it flow better in the first paragraph it did not seem like things flowed very well. The mistakes are easily found by reading the essay carefully. In this review you are missing the two worst things about the website, and if you feel there aren’t any I would just say so.
Overall I really liked your whole review. I felt your review was very informative and to the point. I liked how you didn’t add a bunch of meaningless words. I felt that your essay was well written because of its preciseness.

Your review on the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association website I felt was written very well. I felt this website review flowed much better than your minor website review. There are still a few grammatical errors but composed much better. Same with your minor review you are missing the two worst things about the website.
I really liked your section about how the website relates back to anatomy and physiology. I felt it was composed well and had many informative points. It was easy to read and interesting at the same time. Good Job.

Angela ~ The best aspect of your review are the details you included of the website. However, I found your summary of the site somewhat confusing. It might help condensing this: “The she talks about physical development starting with when were are a single cell that continues to divide until we are the organism we are today. Dr. Hawkins does an excellent job in teaching the basic layout of a human body so that the reader can better understand how chiropractic care helps the nervous system.” Also, you did a great job explaining the two best features of the site, but you omitted the two worst. The only other feedback I can think to give you on this one is watch grammatical errors and perhaps a stronger conclusion ~ I suggest moving your first two sentences to the end of your review. Overall, great job!

The strongest points in this review are the amount of detail about site. The only part you forgot to include were the two worst features about the site. Also, links to those sub-pages of the best and worst features. You did a great job on both reviews.

Final Review
Michon Hawkins, D.C.
http://www.michonhawkins.com/spinalcare.html

The site by Michon Hawkins is very helpful in learning about the spinal column and how it affects the nerves. Hawkins did a very well job in informing the public about chiropractic care and I would recommend this site to others who were interested in learning about the nervous system or vertebrae column.
Doctor Michon Hawkins posted this site. She is a chiropractor that focuses on kinesiology to help with building muscle strength and how to provide proper care to the spinal cord and nerves. This site also covers daily things you should do to take care of you spine and nerves. I think she is posting this site to give information out to the public and to acquire business.

This site takes a very helpful and organized approach to informing the public. Dr. Hawkins begins by explaining what perfect health is, that it “is a state of complete physical, mental, or social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease of infirmity.” Then she talks about physical development starting from conception when we are just a single cell that continues to divide until we are the organism we are today. The brain and spinal cord make up the nervous system and when these nerves are pinched by adjacent vertebrae it can cause serous pain this is called subluxations. It is also important to understand that the nervous system controls all body function. This following site shows subluxation and how vertebrae can pinch a nerve. http://www.michonhawkins.com/spinalcare.html

The first best feature about this website is that Dr. Hawkins really tries’s to explain to the reader how the body works and how by having a chiropractor adjusts your spinal column your body can begin to heal its self and then be able to keep this state of health. Dr. Hawkins specializes in applied kinesiology which is to test muscle strength. When a nerve supplying a particular muscle or organ is being pinched it can cause that muscle to be weaker or cause the organ to eventually fail. By adjusting the spine your chiropractor relieves that stress allowing for the organ or muscle to strengthen and heal its self. Applied Kinesiology can help locate which muscles are under stress and not receiving normal nerve supply. This helps to know which vertebrae needs alignment.

The second feature about this website is the she provides a chart of effects of spinal misalignments. This is really nice because it shows how much our body is affected by misaligned vertebrae. http://www.michonhawkins.com/spinalmisalignments.html This chart shows how every part of the body is connected and that one misalignment can cause many symptoms. Dr. Hawkins also provides a nice layout of this you can do to help keep your vertebrae in line and healthy. http://www.michonhawkins.com/spinalcorrection.html

This was very educational site and gave useful pictures and diagrams to help explain what is going on in the body and how to protect and help heal your body. There was nothing about this site that I didn’t like.
