James,
On behalf of those who didn't get tickets, I want you to know that we think you're awesome. The fact that you paid for all of this up front and out of your own pocket just so some of us could have a good time is really cool. Although I am disappointed to not come to this event (I'll be at Elsie's drinking and bemoaning my lack of planning--should have been first in line for tickets!!!), now that I know the whole story, I'm not feeling as frustrated. Thanks for going out on a limb for your fellow grads. It's appreciated.

Complete Explanationthis was not a gsa or a university sponsored event until recently (and they are only co-sponsoring the event to help with non-profit status and small donations). this is a grassroots dance idea by two grad students (not affiliated in any way with gsa or any other organization). we wanted a dance. i am funding this (all but $500) from my own pocket. any extra money will go into a university account for a future social gathering. we had no idea how many people wanted to go and having one grad student be able to bring 3 friends did not seem unreasonable at all. we needed to sell tickets. also, since i paid for this i couldn't shell out tons of money for a huge place. we had to go for something within reason, and that place happened to be CAF. CAF has a capacity. that's the way it goes. next year i'm sure the university will pick it up and it will be much bigger. i agree...i needs to be bigger. we simply can't do it that way this year. the resources aren't there.

There seems to be a lot of grads I talk to who are still interested in this. If this is sponsored by the GSA and the university, I would think that tickets should be given first to grad student before people are allowed to bring non-graduate students to the formal. Just my 2 cents.

Now we have GOT to increase the number of available tickets!! I still haven't boughten my ticket, but i've hyped this up to my twin sister and friends/classmates/Autism Clinic colleagues! we all wanna go. especially since us girl-dominated special ed grads (school of Ed students) are very excited of the prospect of the rumored guys in the science depts...

**Song Requests: We gotta have real Old School favorites! For us class of '99ers and others of the '90's, awkward middle school and jr high dances mean:
Self-Esteem (offspring) Loser (Beck) Blister in the Sun (violent femmes) Add it Up (Violent Femmes), Walk 500 Miles, Lightning Crashes (Live), Glycerine (Bush), Wonderwall (Oasis), No Rain (blind melon), Vasoline (Stone Temple Pilots), Bitch (Meredith Brooks), All that she wants (ace of base), Don't turn around (ace of base), Walking into Spiderwebs (gwen stefani), Opposites Attract (paula abdul), Straight Up (paula abdul), All I wanna do (sheryl crow), etc.
and for more awkward slow dances, Always (Bon Jovi) I will remember you (Sarah McLachlin) Jeremy (Pearl Jam), Amazin' (Aerosmith), Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin), I swear (All-4-one) Iris (goo-goo dolls), Counting Blue Cars (Dishwalla) etc.
And I think we should add in some cheesy fun songs like: Sweet Caroline, Down Under (Working Men), Bohemian Rhapsody and We will Rock You (Queen).
Lastly, what's a school dance without girl-pleasers like "Brown-eyed girl" and "Baby Got back"? Not to mention perenial crowd-pleasers "Shoup" (salt 'n pepper), "Seether" (Veruca Salt), "Girls" (Beastie Boys), and "American Pie."
man, I could go on forever...

Associated Students has sold all available tickets. As of now, they will not be receiving any additional tickets.
However, we are currently trying to get a count for the number of tickets still needed by students.
Please email me at james@gradformal.com and let me know you are interested in tickets, and I will let you know the plans.
Thanks, James
