http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/cerebra.../cerebral_palsy.htm National Institute of Neurological disorders and stroke. What is Cerbral Palsy? Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder that appears at early infancy or childhood. The muscles in your body do not have the same movement as those born without this neuroligical disorder. children are usually born with CP. The causes are from parts of the brain that do not function properly with your muscle movement. Cerbral palsy cannot be cured but can be treated to help. Cerebral palsy can be mild or severe in all different cases. http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/inter...ts/Tutorials/cp.cfm Tutorial for Cerbral Palsy Cerbral means anything in the head and palsy refers to anything wrong with your muscle movement and your joints in your body. How do you get Cerbral palsy: CP is caused by an injusry to a childs brain. This can happen before the child is born, during child birth and not long after. There are not difinate answers on what may have caused this disorder, but docters and scientists have come up with some good insinuations leading up to a child with tis diorder. The mother may have been invloved in a car accident while having the baby in the womb, or a mother with medical prblems such as high blood pressure or diabetes. During birth the child may have lacked oxygen causeing damage to the brain, or the babies head was injured while giving birth. Infection in the brain atfer birth that is not detcted, premature birth, where alot of the childs brain is still developing and is not ready to be out of the womb. Here are six diffrent classifications of CP. Spastic CP: When cp children have spastic and jerky movments causes there muscsles to tighten. Ataxic: when you are unsteady and shaky all the time, cant really write. Athetoid: When a child has trouble holding themselves up in a walking or sitting position, showing many mavements of the face and arms that are random invulontary movements. Usually these children or adults are confined to wheelchairs. Mixed CP: When muscle tone is to low in some parts of the body and to high in other parts. one out of every four diagnosis is this type of CP. Quadiplegia: usually Very severe, these children are the cerebral palsy cases that end up in wheel chairs. Hemiplegia: When it only affects one side of your body. Diapligia: when a child cannot use either one of there legs. Very rare cerbral palsy. Learning problems and seizures are commonly associatated with half o cerbral palsy patients. http://www.medhelp.org/lib/magncp.htm Magnesium linked to lower incidents of Cerbral Palsy New reaearch shows that babies wih lower birth wieght have lower incidents of CP. The mothers are treated with Magnesium sulfate while pregnant due to low nutrition shown by the size of the fetus. Reserches beleive that is may reduse the chances of getting CP. They have founf postitive results when tested. Magnesium sulfate is a natural chemical commonly used in the untied states by obstitricians to prevent premature delivery or high blood pressure. Magnesium may help the development of the brain and prevent Cerbral hemorrhage while in preterm(in the womb). Magnesium sulfate is a essentail part os our diet. This natural chemical for our body is found in green vegitables, mea, and chocolate. http://www.uihealthcare.com/topics/genetic...fects/gene4591.html Health Topics Cerebral Palsy is a diorder that affects the control of movement and posture. Usually signs of Cerbral Palsy are found before a child turns three. Signs are, child is slow to rollover, sit up, crawl, smile, and walk. All pregnant women should be tested for Rh incompatibility. women should vaccinated for german measles before becoming pregnant.

Comments, I choose this topic because we have been studying over the brain, and I think it is amaizing how the nerves trigger our muscles and the rest of our orginisms in our body that make us a healthy human being. It is sad to know that not every person has full mobility to move such as healthy people. I found cerebral palsy to be perticular intersting to study over because seeing a young boy or girl walking down the street that cannot move the saim way as a heakthy boy or girl really makes me thankful for the body and movement I have been blessed to have. One of my brothers great friendsn in college suffered from cerebral palsy. Yet his body looked, and he moved quite different from the rest of us he was a very smart and outgoing boy.
In the following websites below I read over each one and have summerized each informational webpage in my own knoledge of reading. The first article is pretty good, But I think the second and the last two areticles were very interesting and really grasped the meaning of Cerebral palsy and what the different types there are. It was really cool to read these So I hope you enjoy them! Hava Hanna

National Institute of Neurological Disorders: I like this website; it has some pretty good information and its been updated recently. I also like that it lists organizations that can be used as references. University of Virginia: I like this website; it has a lot of good information about cerebral palsy. I especially like the fact that it lists and describes the different types of cerebral palsy. I didnt realize that there were different types. The only problem that I found with this website is that it has not been updated since May, 2003. MedHelp: This website did not have a whole lot of information, but I feel that the information is relevant. I am not sure if this information can be trusted or not, but the information is interesting. University of Iowa: The information presented is repetitive, but its still good. I still find it fascinating that there are different types of cerebral palsy. This website is reviewed every once in awhile, which is good, but it has not been modified since 2006. Thats the only problem that I saw.

Ninds site:
Informative in English and Spanish. Liked how they give different organizations listed. The site seemed too brief.
Healthsystem site:
I like the information about the different types of cerebral palsy. I also like that it includes a personal story, It's sad it happens to children.
Medhelp site:
Like the fact that there is an inexpensive way to lower the incidence of cp. Informative. The only complaint I have is when I go to a link on the page and it doesn't work, other than that I liked it.
UI Healthcare site:
Informative about cp and site is easy to navigate. I have no negative comment about it.

Hava, interesting topic and websites. You want to be sure to tell us who is posting the website and why they are posting it. The MedHelp article is really a press release from NINDS...you could use their main website as your major site to review. Then, either of the two university health system websites--U. of Iowa or Virginia would be good minor or lesser sites, although they are pretty big websites and probably have good patient info.
I didn't see any peer feedback for the other folks in your color group, LF Choose topic: 10 points Find four websites: 15points Peer reviews: 0 points

The University Of Virginia Presents New Research Findings For Kids http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/inter.../cerebral_palsy.cfmThis Research website was written and done by Dr. Richard Stevenson, head investigator of North American growth in Cerebral Palsy at the University of Virginia Kluge childrens Rehabilitation Center. (KCRC) Study was originally found in 1997, and this website was last updated march 10, 2003 This website was designed to show how this man has taken the time to show how the needs of children with Cerebral Palsy need different physical and nutritional balances from day to day that are not as those needs of a healthy born child. The research program in this website shows what different types of nutritional and physical methods these children need to be met with in order to grow and help them to develop strength. Cerebral Palsy is related to humans in the physical and mental status of a person in life. This child or person for some reason was diagnosed with the disorder due to some sort of complication during birth or after birth, and it will affect the way the muscles, face and emotions of an individual for their lives. The two best features of this website were: How this research has helped out so many different families. Number two: This study can show that A child with CP is also able to learn at almost the same level when given the proper therapy and nutrition. The two worst features: The website does not really go in to the specific nutritional foods. Number two: The things to expect when a child is in this therapy. Reviewed By: Hava Hanna, Nov. 19th 2007 National Institute Of Neurological Disorders and Stroke http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/cerebra.../cerebral_palsy.htmI have chose to review this website as my second website to review because I think it gives you the basics to see what Cerebral Palsy is, How children are born with the disorder, and what treatments and therapies are out their for these people. I read in this website how CP usually shows up in children around the age of three. To read that is so hard because to think that you are having your first child, and believing he is healthy and normal and then to be hit with a unbelievable responsibility and sadness for this Childs life has just begun. Then again the child may not no any different. The National Institute Neurological Disorders has revised this page very recently, as of November 13 2007. The website is based out of Bethsda, MD. What topics are covered here is the definition and different types of Cerebral Palsy, the different types of treatments that may be necessary for any particular patient. There are many different small links off of this website that are interesting to also check out. I think that Cerebral Palsy is very sad to us because as we have study the human body and how the brain controls all of our motor and muscle movements in class, it is difficult to understand why these people have to suffer. I think the research is amazing and the different things you can find out about. The two best features to me: One, I like how it breaks down what cerebral palsy is in simple terms. Two: It tells how CP does not always cause profound disabilities. Two bad features: I did not think it provided enough information on the standing rates of children born with this disorder today. Two: I thought it would have been neat to show some pictures. Reviewed By: Hava Hanna Nov. 19th 2007

This type of research for Cerebral Palsy began in 1997, and this website was last updated march 10, 2003 This website was designed to show how this man has taken the time to compare the differences between well developed childrens means of nutrition and physical ability to children with Cerebral Palsy. The research done in this website talks about the different types of nutritional and physical methods these children need in order to meet their growth and developmental needs. Cerebral Palsy is a disorder that affects voluntary motor performance. This begins to appear during childhood and will affect this person for their entire life. If the placenta in the mother is damaged, it can prevent the baby from getting oxygen for more than 5-10 minutes. If this were to occur, there is a high risk that the CNS function could be permanently altered. If the important brain functioning mechanisms such as the cerebellum or the thalamus are damaged, this could cause abnormal functioning of the motor neurons that help you laugh, talk and stand up (relates back to chapter 15 in Physiology and Anatomy). A child or person diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy is a disorder due to some sort of complication during birth or after birth. This disorder will affect the way they walk, talk and function daily for the rest of their life. The two best features of this website were: How this research has helped out so many different families. Number two: This study can show that a child with CP is also able to learn at almost the same level as a normal child when given the proper therapy and nutrition. The two worst features: The website does not really go in to the specific nutritional foods. Number two: This is article does not include the things to expect when a child is in this therapy. Reviewed By: Hava Hanna, Nov. 19th 2007 National Institute Of Neurological Disorders and Stroke http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/cerebra.../cerebral_palsy.htmI chose to review this as my second website to review because I think it simple understanding of the disorder Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy is an abnormality in the brain that was compromised before, during or soon after the baby was born. This problem that hurt the brain continues on into the muscles function throughout a persons body. For example the medial pathway from the cerebellum helps to control big movements in our hips, buttocks and joints. If that medial pathway was some how destroyed, then the child may not move as we may be able to. (relating back to chapter 15 in Physiology and Anatomy) . This website is written from the researchers-( http://www.aamc.org/research/adhocgp/pdfs/ninds.pdf) National Institute Of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, which is one of the 27 research institutes of neuroscience for the past 50 years. This webpage was just recently updated as of November 13, 2007.The website explains how a child may have ended up this way and the different types of difficulties that may show up. The website also briefly shows what kind of basic therapies a child may go threw, depending on if he/she is confined to a wheelchair, or only can smile with half their face. I read in this website how CP usually shows up in children around the age of three. When I read this fact it was difficult to think that this could happen to my child. I thought about what it may be like to have my first child and believing it would be healthy and normal and then to be faced with this diversity of possibly having to raise a child with Cerebral Palsy. This would be a very difficult reality to overcome. The two best features to me: One, I like how it breaks down what cerebral palsy is in simple terms. Two: It tells how CP does not always cause profound disabilities. Two bad features: I did not think it provided enough statistical information on the rates of children born with this disorder today. Two: I thought it would have been neat to show some pictures. Reviewed By: Hava Hanna Nov. 19th 2007

You have most of the information needed for your reviews, but I think you need to relate them to a&p class. You might want to define which sites are the major and minor. Other than that, good job!

I think that you should link these websites back to what we have studied in class and how the disease is related to A&P. Also, I think you might want to change the titles a little to maybe include your opinion of the material presented by these websites. This is only a suggestion, though. Also, you might want to identify which is the major website and which is the minor one, although I can guess which is which. I think that your best feature for the first review is the second paragraph where you explain why the website was created. I liked the story and the amount of detail you used to describe what can happen without going into too much detail. For the second review, I think that the best feature is that you explained that the website was just recently updated, so that people will know that this is a carefully monitored website. I also liked that you gave the link to the website for the researchers who created this website.

You did a good job on posting these websites. You put alot of time and effort into this topic, which really helps us to understand the disease. This probably needs to be better linked to what we have studied in class, considering that we have not gone into much detail into this or many other diseases.Overall, you did and excellent job.

Hava, it looks like you put a lot of work into this and did a great job! I think that you should distinguish between your minor and major websites. Also, I think you might want to go into a little more detail on how this topic relates back to a&p class. I agree with Elizabeth that the best feature of your first review, is that you explain the purpose of the website. I also think you did a good job providing information on who wrote the website and when it was last updated. For your second review, I really like how you put yourself in someone's else's shoes, and related to if you personally had a child with Cerebral Palsy. Great Job!
