I chose this topic because I use chiropractic care about 3 times weekly to stay headache free. I was curious why keeping the vertebral column in line helps your body feel better and head ache free for me.
This relates to class material because it connects the four sections of the vertebral column and how the alignment of it keeps everything in the body aligned.

The website was posted by Wolfe Chiropractic Rehab and Message. I believe they posted the website to show people that there are alternative medical ways to relive aches and pains and other discomforts than just by taking a pill or ignoring the pain all together. Topics discussed on the websites in the in's and out's of chiropractic care.

Website #1: American Chiropractic Association

This is a reliable source of information, and it is very informative. I did not know that the statistic of Americans who experience lower back pain was such a huge number. When reading the “History of Chiropractic Care,” I learned that China and Greece adopted these techniques before America. ACA presents valid points and it does not seem biased.

Website #2: Pregnancy and Chiropractic

This website is posted by Shelly, a midwife; it has information that I think would be useful to everyone (male or female). The ways in which we can help ourselves involve simple exercises, but if that’s not good enough, chiropractors can relieve pressure with gentle adjustments. I like the images that are posted on this page, because it shows you the exact direction to move your body.

Website #3: Peak Performance Holistic Therapies

Chiropractic care can help sick and healthy individuals. The Sacro-Occipital technic was interesting to read about. These three categories of technique helped to reinforce what we just learned in the study of the Nervous System – ligaments, the sacrum and the iliac. After reading about the history in Christine’s first posted website, homeopathy began even before the Hippocrates. I was surprised!

Website #4: Wolfe Chiropractic Rehab and Massage

There are several things that I liked about this particular website. First and foremost, I acknowledged that they took the time to define what in the world ‘chiropractic care’ is. Secondly, they explained how chiropractors are different than medical doctors. Wolfe Chiropractic also offers more than just corrective adjustments that many places do not offer. This is the kind of place to go to, if you’re looking for more!

The American Chiropractic Association page does have some good general information and could be used as a resource to find a doctor. However, I felt the organization was geared more toward selling the work and proving its usefulness to the chiropractors than to informing potential clients about the nature of the work. So many of those trade organizations do not really seem to do anything. (This jaded perspective is coming from my personal experience as a massage therapist).

The Social Birth site offers an interesting look into the structural changes that occur during pregnancy. I question the wisdom of adjustments when all the ligaments are loosening. I like the figures and the ideas concerning self care.

PPT has some great information. I especially liked the number about the brain. 75% of our energy and 45% of our oxygen! Wow! Still I think the content is a bit superficial and the intent is primarily to sell. I would love to see a meaty source that dives into the hows of chiropractic.

Wolfe’s page brings forward the importance of listening to the body’s grievances and than attending to them. So often symptoms are treated instead of the cause often creating more problems down the road. I like how he clarifies his beliefs concerning the work instead of stating the information as fact.

Thanks for your research. Jen Perkins

Christine, interesting topic and you do a nice job describing the websites you've chosen.
Your peers have done a great job of evaluating those websites and I have little to add.

YOu probably want to review the American Chiropractic Association website as your major review.

I thought the social birth site presented some interesting ideas for helping with back care during pregnancy and would obviously be a good minor website to review, although any of the individual clinic sites would be fine.

I think this website is a great reliable source and its nice how they explain what chiropractic care is and the most popular ways of providing care to your spine.

Website 2 http://www.socalbirth.org/shelly/chiro.htm#ben
I really like this site since it relates chiropractic care to a specific group of people, pregnant women, and gives the reason why its important, what it can help and what you can do at home to keep your spine and joints healthy. The exercises on this site could be useful for anyone with vertebral discomfort not just pregnant women.

Website 3 http://www.peakperformancemassage.com/chiropractic_technique.htm
I think this site is good because it gives a general overview of the nervous system and why it is so important to keep the vertebrae healthy so that the nervous system can function properly. I think that this site is useful for your topic. I do think that it would be nice to go into greater detail of chiropractic care.

Website 4 http://www.wolfechiro.com/chiroinfo.htm
This site is useful since it tells the reader the anatomy of the vertebrae, like that it consist of 24 individual bones. It’s also nice how it talks about subluxation and the options to address the problem. I think this site isn’t good because it doesn’t really go into great detail about chiropractic care and the different types of care available.

The American Chiropractic Association Website Review

By Christine Nelson

The American Chiropractic Association website includes topics for patients, doctors, and up to date information in the field of chiropractic care. The website is a great place for people looking into chiropractic care to get a feel for what chiropractic care is all about. The website also provides a history of chiropractic care. The website provides a look at how much schooling it requires to be a chiropractor, which that for me makes me feel better that any chiropractor I go to I can confidently assume they are very well educated. I think overall it is a place where patients and chiropractors alike can both be educated in the newest advancements and history in the chiropractic field.
The website above is posted by the American Chiropractic Association. I believe the American Chiropractic Association has posted the website to help people understand chiropractic care and get interested in it. I think the American Chiropractic Association really wants to help people with back pains feel comfortable going to a chiropractor to try and help patients get relief for their back pain. I personally really like this website and feel it is a great place to get accurate and unbiased information about the chiropractic field.
The American Chiropractic Association website relates back to basic anatomy and physiology because the website is all about keeping the core of your body aligned and healthy. The anatomy of the vertebral column is unique and quite complicated. Without understanding the anatomy of the vertebral column it is impossible to comprehend how chiropractic care is able to relieve pain and discomfort in the back. The physiology of the muscles and the nerves that run throughout the vertebral column is also very important. For example the largest nerve, the sciatic nerve, runs out for the bottom of the vertebral column and down into the leg and when that nerve gets “pinched” it is quite painful and uncomfortable until the pressure is relieved. As long as the vertebral column is kept in alignment it is helping to keep the vertebral column healthy.
I think that the best feature on the website is the long history of chiropractic care. (http://www.amerchiro.org/level2_css.cfm?T1ID=13&T2ID=62) It is very interesting to see how the chiropractic field has evolved through the years. I also liked how the American Chiropractic Association included a link to other ways to stay healthy. (http://www.amerchiro.org/level2_css.cfm?T1ID=13&T2ID=169) There was not much that I did not like about the website. I felt that the website was well organized and easy to find your way around the website.

I think you covered the main topic for this review and I think your ideas are organized. The only improvement I would I to say would be to maybe to talk a little more about the two best features just a sentence or two. Other than that great job with the first website but where is your other one?

Wolfe Chiropractic Rehab and Massage
By Christine Nelson
http://www.wolfechiro.com/massinfo.htm
The Wolfe Chiropractic Rehab and Massage website is posted by Dr. Donald Wolfe, D.C., the owner and one of the chiropractors at the clinic. This website, I think, was posted for people that are looking into chiropractic care but are still unsure of the whole thing. The Wolfe Chiropractic Rehab and Massage website helps potential patients understand their philosophy and beliefs in chiropractic care. The site has also voiced its opinion on taking a pill to mask the back pain or nerve pain by what could easily be fixed by a simple chiropractic adjustment. At Wolfe Chiropractic Rehab and Massage they also believe in massage therapy to help the muscle relax and make the adjustment easier and more constructive. Overall I felt this website was very informative but maybe a little biased.
The Wolfe Chiropractic Rehab and Massage website relates back to basic anatomy and physiology because the website is all about keeping the vetebral column aligned and healthy, along with massage therapy to keep the muscles relaxed and unirritated. Without understanding the anatomy of the vertebral column it is impossible to comprehend how chiropractic care is able to relieve pain and discomfort in the back. The physiology of the muscles and the nerves that run throughout the vertebral column is also very important. For example the largest nerve, the sciatic nerve, runs out from the bottom of the vertebral column and down into the leg and when that nerve gets “pinched” it is quite painful and uncomfortable until the pressure is relieved. The website talks about how a slight adjustment maybe needed for the body to heal itself instead of taking a pill to mask the problem rather than fixing it.
On the Wolfe Chiropractic Rehab and Message website I really liked how they included their point of view on the practice of chiropractic care, about listening to your body and not just treating the symptoms but the root of the problem. I liked how they really explained their work in the field of chiropractic care and can help people ease into going to see a chiropractor like learning how to swim before your jump in the deep end. Even though I felt the website was a little biased, I really felt the information on the website was reliable and encouraging. I felt that the site was a little hard to get around and find the information I was looking for, but it was fiarly well organized.

Very nice job on this review of Wlofe Chiropractic Rehab and Massage. You included everything and think it was very infomative. The only suggestion I have would be to read through it one more time a couple of sentances sounded a little funny. Other than that it was awsome.

The American Chiropractic Association Review

You did a nice job on this website review! I just have a couple of suggestions that may help to improve the work that you’ve put into this. Before this assignment is due, be sure to go back through and correct the flow of sentences; some of your sentences are confusing or repetitive. Also, a spell check could be useful. Other than those suggestions, I think that you covered everything.

I believe that everything required is in your review, unless you must include two things that you don’t like about the website. Like your first review, make sure that you check sentence structure for fragments or repetition, and spell check your work. Otherwise, I think that you’ve done a nice job!

The American Chiropractic Association review covered all the required content for our reviews. I did miss the things that you didn’t like about the site. I also am curious about what you learned about chiropractic care. I noticed you used a lot of I believe’s and I think’s. Feel free to write as an expert without qualifying your opinion. Thanks for the topic. Jen Perkins

The Wolfe review also includes everything. I feel like I know what attracted you to the site and what you learned. I like the emphasis in treating the problems instead of the symptoms. I think you could develop what chiropractic is a little more. How does it help? Otherwise everything is there. Thanks Jen

Wolfe Chiropractic Rehab and Massage

Christine ~ Overall, very nice job on your review! I really have a great understanding of the website’s point of view on chiropractic rehab. I can’t think of anything to change, maybe just a little more detail on the best and worst aspects of the site.

The American Chiropractic Association

Again, a really nice review. However, you forgot your ‘signature’ on each one. I can’t think of anything I would change, and I really like the organization of each review – nice job!
