The date for the 3rd Great Cranberry Ultra Marathon is Saturday July 18 starting at 11 am. This event is meant to help bring more good energy to our beautiful island and to showcase our community spirit to visiting runners and their families. We have even heard from a soldier now serving in Iraq who would like to run, as well as many who have attended past editions. We'll also do a kids run again and other activites thru-out the day and evening. I can use volunteers and welcome input to help make this event a another success!

Earth Day was observed on Great Cranberry on Sat., April 18th. Trash collectors were Gaile Colby, Karin Whitney, Ken Schmidt and Mary Wallace. Thanks to Ed and Jane Gray for opening the trash facility for dropoff. Thanks to Barbara Stainton, Clay Taylor, Polly Sanders and Eileen Richards for providing food for the cleaners' luncheon. Thanks to Janice Murch and her crew for the use of the golf cart. We are pleased to report that the island roadsides were in pretty good shape - four bags of trash were collected islandwide, with the majority of the refuse being found in the dock/beach area.

The Ladies Aid Memorial Weekend Dinner was a grand success! The dining room was filled with enthusiastic diners and the donation basket was filled with money. Many people turned out to support this fundraiser in many ways - my thanks to each and every one!

Where can I post pictures of July 4th on the island so all can see? Should it be here or the website somewhere? Would love suggestions.

Hello everyone! My husband, daughter and I are looking for a one-week house swap on Cranberry Island in August or September. We live in a two-bedroom apartment in a lovely brownstone in historic Brooklyn Heights, New York. Our apartment has tons of light and beautiful views, and is one block from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade (directly across from downtown Manhattan). Almost all subways stop in our neighborhood. Please email creynolds@dapinc.com if you are interested in a trade! (Or, if you're looking to rent your place, we'd like to know about that too.) Thanks, Cory Reynolds

Little Cranberry Island (Islesford) is saddened by the loss of two wonderful island ladies this week, Betty Sprague and Lillian Alley. Rest in peace.

Cranberry Island Ladies Aid Notes:

Plans are in full swing for the 109th Annual Fair, to be held on Wed., Aug. 5th. Donations for each department - bakery, white elephants, crafts and "porch" (jams, jellies, pickles, flowers, vegetables, etc.) are needed and will be most appreciated. Judy Whitney Blake, chair of the bakery, is hoping for a variety of baked goods, especially pies, as they are a top seller. We also need willing workers for set up, clean up, working in the bakery, etc. Please call Mary Wallace (276-5203) or Sonja Colby (244-5708) if you can volunteer a few hours to help.

The old barn was moved to the ballfield on Friday and will soon be moved down the road to its new location. John Goodwin, Jr. and crew have prepared the site for the new barn - the cement slab is due to be poured this week. Stay tuned for further progress!
