My deepest condolences on the loss of Hal Newell Jr. He was a great man, he had a deep faith and really was a great neighbor. May he know that he will remain with us in spirit and in our memories.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Hal Newell. I enjoyed working with Hal and knowing him as a community member as well. To his family and friends:

The Board of Selectmen have scheduled a Special Town Meeting on November 15, 2007 at 3:00 pm at the Great Cranberry Island Fire House. The warrant will be posted elsewhere on this website. Some of the articles we will be voting on are: a Selectman to fill the unexpired term of Hal Newell, who resigned; an article to borrow funds for a Municipal Garage Building on Islesford, and an article to borrow funds for engineering work on the Great Cranberry Island Dock, which is in need of repair. Hope to see all voters there!!! Your vote counts!!!

The Town of Cranberry Isles Harbor Advisory Committee will meet on Wednesday, October 03, 2007 at the Great Cranberry Community Center, 3:00 P.M..

The October Board of Selectman's Meeting has been postponed until October 11, 2007. It will be on Islesford at the Neighborhood House at 8:30 AM.

Thanks to Dick Avery and the crew at the boatyard for being impromptu hosts to my mother and I on my first visit back to Great Cranberry in nearly ten years. You have a little slice of heaven. I was glad to see it hadn't changed a bit since my childhood when my family would sail in on our old wooden sloop. Dick -- I think you have a museum quality collection of lichen growing on your home. How beautiful!

Thanks also to Danny Collins for sharing blueberries and stories. What a treat it was to meeet you Danny!

I hope that this was the first of many more visits to come and that one day I can join you all as stewards of the island. I'm an environmental scientist, not an investment banker though, so everything I pursue seems to require lots of patience, creativity, and frugality . .. . it does make for a better journey and it's the journey, not the destination, that offers the best reward. If any of you know of a unique opportunity for a young woman with strong arms and a strong heart for preserving a rustic property and growing a beautful garden, I would love to hear from you.
