We're considering a move back to The Cranberry Isles in the very near future. We've thought of nothing else since we left GCI a few years ago. So this is a "Job Wanted" ad. Not your typical wanted ad nor a typical way to go about it. But, hey, the Cranberries' is not your typical place (that's a compliment!). So if you have any job vacancies, ideas, or suggestions, we welcome them all.
We have a varied work experience, which we also think is a good thing and beneficial to island living. While on GCI, Ingrid cleaned houses, managed the island gas pump, worked at the general store, substituted in the library, worked in a boathouse office, and provided child care. Off island, she is a photographer, photography instructor, and also works in the printing and graphic design industry. Richard is a licensed barber. And while on GCI he did carpentry, care taking, landscaping, maintenance of the gas pump and painting.
You can contact us via e-mail at ingridgaither@yahoo.com or phone at 704-546-7131. Thank you for your interest and consideration. And we sure hope we meet again soon!
Sincerely, The Gaither's Mocksville, NC

Twenty-five people attended the Ladies Aid breakfast on Saturday a.m. A great time was had by all - folks enjoyed having foods they do not typically have at home(especially bacon, apparently, as four pounds disappeared by 8:45!)and several lingered over coffee, chatting with neighbors. Thank you to those who supported our work by attending!

The Island Institute wants to hear from you. They have begun a strategic planning process that will define the organization's priorities over the next three years. Specific questions to be addressed: -What programs and/or resources have worked well (or not) in the past? -How well are our current programs and/or resources meeting community needs? -Where should we focus our programs and/or resources in the next three years?
Please join them for an open public forum. Friday, October 9 2009 7:30-9:30 at the Islesford Neighborhood House. There will be a night boat provided. For further details, contact Eliza Greenman at 244-4475.

Approximately 100 people attended the Harvest Dinner at the Cranberry Island Community Center on Sat., Oct. 10th. Chefs Richard Beal and Gaile Colby served a wonderful meal! Many thanks to them for all of their planning, shopping, preparing and serving. Thanks also to Ruth Westphal for the wonderful centerpieces, to Janice Murch for the donation of applesauce, to all who set up and cleaned up, and to all who attended. A great time was had by all!!
Janice Murch has donated many bulbs to the Ladies Aid. Individuals should stop by the Community Center, pick up a bunch of the bulbs and plant them here and there all over the island - we'll enjoy the beautiful results next spring!

The Cranberry Island Ladies Aid Christmas Fair, held on Sat. Dec. 12th, was a great success! Although the high winds kept some of our regular MDI visitors on the mainland, seven adventurous friends from Islesford came over - it was such fun to have them with us. Folks enjoyed visiting, shopping, having lunch together - over $800 was earned for our operating budget. Many, many thanks to all who donated handcrafted items, gifts and homebaked foods, to all who helped with set-up and clean-up, to all who helped with lunch and to all who shopped and sent monetary donations. I greatly appreciate your support!

Delicious desserts, appreciated gifts: Visit www.ubuntufund.org and see what Carol Ford and Cranberry Isles Kitchen are offering for the holidays. Her Whoopie Pies are the best! Go to the Ubuntu site and look at the bottom of the home page. Each order gives you a tasty gift and makes a thoughtful donation to help others.

Twenty-two Cranberry Island residents enjoyed an old-fashioned baked bean supper on Saturday evening - a great time was had by all. My thanks go to all who set up, cleaned up, cooked and contributed to the meal, as well as to the attendees!
I am in the process of outfitting and setting up the craft equipment and supplies in our new barn. Spent some time there Sunday afternoon stitching aprons for our August Fair - great space, great light, great new sewing machines!
Stay tuned for information on upcoming February events - a Valentine's Day dinner on Sunday, Feb. 14th and a community coffee hour on Sat., Feb. 27th.
