The chat area has returned, we apologize for the delay. The standings will be posted as soon as I receive them - if you can email them to mullett@usm.maine.edu that would speed things along. Thanks! - Mike

If any teams are still looking for a full time player or even someone just to pick up some games I am looking to start playing. I played for Reporter last summer. I played for Bryant U. and Cheverus prior to that, but my email is bwilliams28@yahoo.com or cell phone 272-6805, or just respond here and let me know

Looks like it was a good game vs Hood. I'm curious... I was told that the Old Boars were not the "Old Boars". They seem to be lighting up these teams.... what's the deal?
Tim  30
07-23-2007 02:00 AM ET (US)
The Boars are good but they aren't even close to being as good as they were last year...They beat the Outrage 6-3 with one coming into an empty net...They beat Yarmouth 4-2 in a close tight game...They beat Hood 7-1, but Hood outshot them and I think Joe would tell you he had and off day in net...They won 9-0 tonight over TSI, was 3-0 after 2...TSI seems comes unglued(see the 13-3 loss last week and the 8-1 loss to Reporter) when things start to go bad...Reporter and the Boars are no doubt good but they can be beaten...

it pretty musch is ATS(save 2 or 3 players each way)....I don't know what to tell you, we had 2 ties Tuesday night...I pretty much have no power in saying how the Men's league goes anymore: ie they won't even give me access to post the standings under the link...I have passed some concerns along and up the ladder and am trying to push for a top 4 and a bottom 6 playoff...

Jesus Christ, here we go.....The team on the ice last night had 1 player under 30 years old. I'm the youngest guy on my line at 36. We probably have 3 guys that aren't 20 pounds over weight as well. I guess I'd cry too if I got my ass kicked by a bunch of old fat guys.
The game was pretty clean as most of ours have been this summer. We've been passing the puck well and burying our chances, I guess we should miss the open nets you've been providing.
After the blowouts the winter Reporter squad endured, they don't seem to mind being on the winning side of things this time around.
As far as the playoffs go, if the Y Heros aren't going to be around, what 2 teams are going to join the Boars and Reporter? I'm sure they'll be happy to be there. Keep it as it is and try hard when you get there.
Lastly GP, if you guys would bring an alternate color jersey for once in the last 5 years, we would get to wear our RED jerseys.
Man up ladies....at least the Outrage are decent about it.

Didnt realize I wasnt being "decent", just my opinion on the way the lopsided teams play together thats all. Dont care if you're my age, over weight or whatever. When you have a group of guys that are obviously much better than many of the teams they play with it tends to get old. Its not about "bringing it" coach. It was a much cleaner and civilized game and we mentioned it after the game to ourselves. As for the Reporter getting beat last winter, didnt we all, but thats the team Vinnie thought was playing this summer.I'm sure he didnt know one of the best skaters to play in Biddeford in the last 20 years was coming.
As for jersey colors, it would have been a much wiser decision to get an available color when you joined the league. We've been red since day one, sorry. Blue would have worked nicely.
Thanks for the nice words about the open nets, must be nice to be super terrific.
outrage 15  87

hey tim..you feeling generous or what?? not to blow the whole 2 games in one night with a score of 10-3 buuuuut,,i do believe our final was a spanking of epic proportion 12-3 and you just felt bad and stopped running the score...thank you!!!! wo,,wo did we get a compliment from ats???lol

I was under the impression (from Vinnie) that he told several teams they couldn't play this summer because he wanted a competitive league. I don't think he said take all your best players and under a new team name.
I agree with Hood it's not about "bringing it" as it is what the teams in this league was suppose to be.
Try and tell Chris Shain why The reporter is basically ATS and he couldn't put in his team.
Monster is up for the challange. We look forward to kicking the tires with ATS.. i mean Reporter.
I shouldn't have to say this but Don't take this board too serious guys it's just smack talk.

We have 3 players out of 11 who have not played with the Reporter during the last couple of seasons, 2 are 31 and 1 is 42ish. No college ringers here.

Chuck is right, V.Design was not allowed to put in the roster from last winter and I know the Old Boars had to actaully say NO to some pretty good players that wanted to come back this summer...Chuck is also right, don't take the crap on this board personally...Joe from Hood, keep coming out and ingnore that crap, we had that same crap coming from the USM team last winter...Remember, I was the reason they lost the playoff game last winter: I have magic powers from inside that little box that can actually fix games...

Bryon, who played with the Reporter last summer but left town for the winter is under 30.
Goalie Joe played well, I thought he was left alone by his D too much the other night. I don't know how many goalies are going to stop 2 on 0s and breakaways all night. The comment was for them not him.
If it wasn't us, everyone would be pissed about the Boars. If they were out too, Y Heroes would be the best team and everyone would be pissed. Just like TSI last winter season at the beginning of the year when they were winning all the time. Someone has to be first and someone has to worst.

Nobody is pissed, it just gets a little old getting whopped repeatedly by certain teams. It funny because you have a completely different attitude when on the ice when sme even come close to giving you a game. So now you have comments for our D too, thanks. He's trying to suck up, Joe, Last time I knew "empty net" was definitely a goalie insult.
Either way ,I dont why I'm wasting my time even bringing it up.

I dont know why players continue to whine about getting beat by the same few teams or complain because Vinnie banned all the good players. If Vinnie is not allowing the good teams or players to play because he wants a "competetive" league, then he is doing everyone a disservice. The summer A division was starting to get a good reputation. The teams were getting better every year. If you let a team, or player, pick and choose who can and cannot play based on his own experience level, you will never have the best hockey that this league deserves. Bidd went through this years ago, and the result was that the weaker teams became the stronger teams over time. Portland has done the same. Quit whining and wasting your time trying to make the perfectly competitive league every year and focus on improving the quality of all the Gorham leagues.

Hood, I think that the game was alot closer than what is reflected in the score. Shots on goal were close; however, we were fortunate to bury a couple early in the game. Our comments on the bench after the first period included how well you guys move the puck around. You guys skated for all 3 periods. Well done! It is true that the Reporter is skating x6 legacy ATS players and x5 legacy reporter players. Simply stated: We all just wanted to play hockey this summer in Gorham.

Just a thought, My brother plays year round in Mass, all there leagues are draft type, no you may not be with all your buddies, but its the only way they keep it fair. They seem to like it pretty well, you get to play with some guys you would never get a chance to skate with. Lets face it, there are guys in every division that shoul be skating in a different division. I'm 46 years old, I'm there to have fun and win a few games. I personally like playing better teams, it raises your own level of play. Lets get this league starightend out and have fun!!!!!

i dont think the draft thing sounds good,,,the teams that have played togetther forever wants to stay that way,,at least i now we do...if we didnt let all the teams in we would have 3 leagues with 4 teams in each(maybe?)and then there would be complaining about not enough teams...sure it suxx to be gettin spanked(believe me,we know) but with one league thats how it goes,,,bruins have been gettin spanked for years,,maybe they should tell all the best teams in the nhl to send some players home so it would be a little more competitive,,,no one said this was gonna be a A,B or c-league,,just a combo deal!,,its mens league,,lets have fun with it.

Whatever happened to simply enjoying a fresh sheet of ice, a night away from the kids, and a cold beer afterward? Everyone likes to win...but this is getting silly. I read through this debate and wondered if I was going to trip over a wet diaper or step in a poopie....

This is true and it stinks that some teams/players were told no...We could have had 4 or 5 true A teams(I know of one other team we had last year that wanted back in but had to go to Falmouth) and then probably 4 or 5 solid "B" teams and then 4 or 5 very good "C" teams...I will never know what poeple have against smaller league's: espically in the summer...

I agree Tim, there is a reason for divisions. I have no problem with smaller leagues especially if the game is more enjoyable.

I would like to clear things up about the Old Boars.
The Old Boars are just two guys in their 50s that played together in college in the 70's. We have been playing in this league since around the time it started. There has been a core bunch of players that have been playing with us right along.
When they split the league into A an B we played in the A.
This year the two oldest player from the Boars were not going to play in the A anymore so I asked to put a team in the B league. The only two on that team from last years Old Boars were the two of us.
The only reason we used the name Old Boars was because we found out that the A league was not gonig to have a league so we took our old name back.
We did pick up a couple of the other older players after they did not have a team to play on and some others went to other teams. It is not the same team that was going to play in the A league.
Buy the way you guys may want to look at the last two games we played. We lost them both.
Sebago Brewing played us last night and played hard and beat us.Their goal tender was also outstanding.
Depending on who shows up I think any of these teams can beat any other. Most of our games have been close even if the scores do not show that. Most of the time our goal tender kept us in the game.
I do not have a problem with the split play offs but I do not think we are any better then the rest of you.

I play for Sebago and thought last night's game was a great one. NOT A SINGLE PENALTY WAS CALLED ALL NIGHT, yet there was plenty of intensity. Both goalies looked very sharp and every player was working hard. Thanks Boars...games like that (win or lose) is why we go to the rink each time...

This is random, I know, but I just wanted to give a shout out to Reporter's goalie.....I've played against him and watched him in other games and he always keeps in good spirits and congratulates his opponent whether he's winning by 1 goal or 10 goals....seems to be a great guy to play with, so kudos to him :)

I'm sure i would be the last one to stick up for ATS/Reporter players (partly because i love digging on them) But the 10-2 loss does not give the game justice. It could have been a lot closer then it appears. We had a goalie that hadn't played in a year (i appreciate him filling in for us) but their goalie played on his head! Man for Man reporter isn't better then any other team in this league... they just play well together.
I look forward to playing them again.
The top team will always take the heat for being the best.
