Islip residents please urge your East Islip School District friends to vote Frank Gerace for the East Islip Board of Education. He is the cofounder and President of SchoolWatch. See his info below:

My 5th grader in SES has 23 kids. we have had 26 kids in a class also.

My question is: why did the district spend so much on an outside consultant when we have all the number in our systems?

They could have used the funds spent on the consultant to educate our kids! it is called wasteful spending and noone being held accountable for how they spend the funds!

I am so surprised that the Commack/Sherwood issue has not been brought up on this site...Per a quote from Ms. Romano in the Islip Bulletin yesterday (2/14) it appears everything will remain status quo. Which means the educational needs of CRES students are NOT being met as per the school watch mission statement. The per pupil spending and resources are not equal among the elementary schools - there are 4th grade classrooms at SES that have 18 students vs. CRES 4th grade classrooms that have 23 students, that is not fair and equitable distribution of resources among students. CRES parents need to step up to the plate and be loud and clear that ALL Islip District students deserve the SAME - The upsoming Budget needs to be watched very carefully because given uncertain economic times, it may not pass and the first things to be cut will be CRES teachers as in the past...

Did any one see CBS channel 2 news on 9-25-07? They did a report on schools not doing what they are supose to be doing, paying for CALCULATORS! it was filmed in Islip. it said that SchoolWatch urges all parents to contact the schools and demand refunds for calculators and books that they had to buy. does anyone know if any schools actually refunded any parent yet?

Islip SchoolWatch has not received any response from the letter sent to the District this July. The Letter we sent was informing them, incase they did not remember that they were informed back in December 2006 that All School District curriculum material (text books and non-consumable supplies) including calculators were to be supplied by the District. We have received many emails from concerned parents questioning the ethics, morals and values of the Islip School Board and Administration. We have been trying to schedule a meeting to discuss this issue. Unfortunatly, we have not been able to meet with anyone as of yet. We may now feel that News12 and LongIsland Press to name a few media outlets that are successful in issues like these might have a timelier response. We Will keep you posted as information becomes available...

Has anyone from school-watch heard back from the district regarding the calculators,etc...? Wasn't there a date or deadline for the district to respond by?
What if they don't respond, what happens then? If the district has been holding out on such a small item like calculators and protractors, could you imagine what else they have been withholding from the children of this district.
Just curious!

Why Does Islip Schools still have Calculators on their supply list & why didn't they put the school supply list in the welcome back to school envelopes like normal? why did I have to go down to the school and get the list? my neighbor had to ask the lady BEHIND the counter at staples for the current Islip supply list; give her childs school and grade before the lady would give her the list...

I saw a copy of Islip's School Watch letter at the Library
I read the link & letter sent to all Superintendents Dec. 2006 It clearly says that schools are to provide Calculators, so whats going on????? any one know? If our property taxes are paying the school taxes & Calculators are needed for the curriculum why are we pay 2x for them? Where is the money for the calculators & oter items us parents paying for going?

The School Watch letter also said that they wrote a letter to the School. What did the school say?
