Yes, I found www.campparadox.com . In Dave Armstrong's pic from 1962 I clearly recognize Gerry Roselle at the back left. When I was there, he seemed to spend a good deal of time in the lower level of what we called the Social Hall or Club House, later Rodgers Hall. He worked at a desk with a little hi fi or stereo system playing his enormous library of jazz recordings. In fact GER got me started on my life-long love of jazz.
"Uncle Gerry" was well liked, but in my Paradox days the camp was very jocky - all about baseball (actually softball), basketball and tennis. So the popular counselors were the athletic coaches. The head counselor was Lou Rossini, who had been the basketball coach for Columbia University and New York U. He enlisted camp counselors from the college athletic teams. Yes, there was also boating, swimming, archery, nature, arts & crafts, music & drama. But sports reigned at Paradox.

The Camp Paradox alma mater was "Amici" - which was the same tune as the Cornell University alma mater, with the tempo changed at the bridge. For the life of me I cannot recall the words, only the melody. Can someone help?
Thanks!

Can't think of first line but folows with
On a mountain side Stands a camp we all admire Boyhood's shine and pride.
Camp we love Paradox Stand for e're, in your mountain home.
I'm missing the last line too. I'm sure someone will fill in rest. On Fri, Jan 15, 2010 at 2:20 PM, QT - Don Bing < qtopic-39-ecqSvx6KPpmvC@quicktopic.com> wrote:

I am sure that I am missing a few words but this is what comes back.
Far from hustling cities splendor On a mountain side Stands a camp by all admired boyhood's shrine and pride
Camp we love, Paradox Stands for ere May your sons for ere be loyal where so ere they roam
HUM
May your sons for ere be loyal Where so ere they roam.

Don and all Paradoxians,
Lou Rossini was definitely there and one of the big draws when Larry and Alex were promoting the camp in 1962. And as I recall, there was a joke about Amici...and its pronunciation. I think we also called it (am-EE-chee), as in the actor Don Amici's name.
And true to the song, Camp Paradox's sons from every era are still loyal...where so 'ere they roam.

Don,
i think PX changed a bit from a jocks camp to a sports/thespian/exploring camp. i remember being more impressed with the stage shows, WCP, all the tradition in songs etc. And leadership which came from Larry Carpenter's influence (and you can read ALL about him in the archives circa 2002) was very stressed. As was Explorers club - we had i believe first 46ers in Camp history? There were jocks, but Jewish jocks!

BTW, I'm in Southern California, eastern Ventura County, not far from "the Valley." Would be happy to meet up with fellow Paradoxians in the area sometime and see any memorabilia. Sad to say all my PX memorabilia and photos got discarded when my parents sold the home in New York where I grew up.

I found another new strip of negatives that I've scanned. For some reason the MyFamily site won't let me upload them so I've posted them at my SmugMug site here: http://tinyurl.com/ykqfmm4

Hey Jim, et.al.,
I downloaded your pix from SmugMug and uploaded them to My Family.
I had some trouble, too, but with my password.

Responding to Howard Benson - C/P of the 1950's did not have Explorers or 46ers. Wish they had. The only High Peaks I recall climbing were Marcy and Giant. When I revisited Paradox in the 1990's I did Marcy again.
How was the Howie Kretz legend handled in the 1960s? We were fed stories of a Paul Bunyon type who performed heroic acts, like swimming to New York from Schroon Lake. Bil Biel was the source of all things Kretz and also the expert in Adirondack mountaineering.
