Jack, an F1 is a cross between a common carp and a crucian carp, the way to tell is they have 2 stunted barbules where a carp has 4 and a crucian has none, i think they dont grow no more than 5-6lb

fished backlake swim 16 over night on saturday. After a snowy start at around 9:30 my left hand rod which was being fished by the branch to my left on 10mm pellet on a bed of mixed sized pellet stormed off.By the time i hit into it the fish had moved infront of me, unfortunately the hook popped out of its mouth.Back to bed we went.No more action untill around 2:00am when my friend went out for a toilet and found both sets of our rods on the floor and one of his missing.Pulling the rods in slowly luckaly his missing rod was attached to the line of one of my rods (BLOODY SWANS!!!!)As it was so cold we left the rods out till morning. No more action throughout the next day so we packed up and went home.Maybe next time ill take back leads.

I fished peg 6 (back lake) again yesterday 11am to 8:30pm. Ledgered a hair rigged luncheon meat cube to the edge of the lily pads close in (15 feet out). I used very little ground bait just some 3mm pellets. I started catching around 3pm and caught nine tench in all; the biggest was 5lb 4oz the smallest was about 3lbs. I discovered that perch don't eat 1cm cubes of luncheon meat but they will happily take a shot at anything smaller.

What is with all the perch in the back lake this year?

I've been fishing peg 6? (second swim down after the bridge) on my last couple of visits. I fished from 11am until 9pm on Thursday (19th July) I caught two nice tench both about 3lbs. I lost 5 or 6 and was snapped up 3 times. I've dragged the right hand side around the perimeter of the lily pads (but only on the right) so it's nice and clean. There was loads of activity at the top end of the lake all day but it's weedy on the bottom and you pretty much have to drag where ever you want to fish to get any sort of bait presentation. I caught on pretty much everything in my bag (maggots casters corn) but they didn't fancy my home made vanilla and maple syrup bollies. Philistines! I also caught a bag full of perch. Brave the showers this weekend and benefit my hard work and let us all know what you catch. I might take a shot at peg 5 on Sunday.

fished saturday 14th july on the back lake 4pm-7pm swim 13 using a carp rod with a cage feeder attached and a bunch of maggots on the hook had a few knocks on it but no bites. My second rod was a quiver tip using a small cage feeder and a size 14 hook full of maggot after 10 minuets of the rod being out i got a rod bending take hooking a 4lb 8oz dustbin lid.1 hour later and it bent round again hooking another bream of about 5lb after releasing the second bream and casting the rod back out i put it on the rest and off it went again landing a 5lb 8oz bream unfortunatly i had to help my lil cuz after that.

excellent day on sunday 1st july on the back lake, weather was poor but the fishing was great,50lb of bream and a stunning 6lb tench on the back lake.Biggest bream was 6lb 10oz a new PB for me all fell to corn+pellet cocktail between 12.30pm-7.30pm went home smelly and covered in slime(nothing unusual for me)but it was worth it.Scott that carp did you really catch that or was you holding for someone.

Saturday 23rd June 2007. With no ticket for Glastonbury this year I decided to brave the weather and go fishing. I should not have bothered. I fished Peg 10 from 4pm until 10pm. The weather was shocking! There were some fish around but they were not interested in my corn, bread or luncheon meat. Maybe I should have bought some worms with me after all the rain we've been having. I missed a couple of bites and landed a couple if nice rudd about 1/2 lb each but it was s lot of hard work of very little return.
I'm sea fishing this weekend as the carp match will take over the back lake all weekend.
If I'm free I might nip down on Sunday lunch time (around 12) and see where all the hard feeding carp fisherman have been putting their baits and see if I can catch some nice tench from a pre baited swim on Sunday evening. Sometimes it not about working hard, it's about working smart.

I spent a few hours at the back lake yesterday evening from 5pm until 10pm(Sunday 17th June). It was a nice evening and I had a bunch of baits to use up from various sessions over the last few weeks. There was nothing much moving when I arrived and it stayed that way. I fished peg 17 straight out (about 20 feet)to the left of the lilly pads using corn and feeding brown crumb and generic pellets. I caught a nice bream of about 5lb but nothing else all evening.

I had a couple of takes on a floating crust on my carp rod as it started to get dark but nothing very positive.

Fresh baits and rethink for Saturday I think.

cant wait for the match on sunday.

I fished the back lake on Saturday 2nd June 3pm until 10pm. There were several shoals of carp high in the water between pegs 11 & 15. I spent the first hour or so stalking them. The carp were not interested in surface baits at all.
I returned to my favourite peg 10. I fished a waggler float left of centre using a size 10 hook and five red maggots to deter the smaller fish. I fed "Super G" Green groundbait with brown crumb mixed in. It was very quiet until 6pm. Then it all kicked off. I caught two good bream (3lbs & 6lbs) and three tench (between 2lbs & 3lbs)plus a number of 1/2lb rudd and a few small perch. By 9pm everything went very quiet again. It was a very warm day and a cool evening and I think the quick drop in air temperature stopped the fish from feeding once the sun was set. I'll try again Sunday evening.

I took my chances with the weather this afternoon and returned to my favourite peg 10 on the back lake from 4 to 10 pm this evening (Sunday 27th May). I fished a method feeder out right to the lilly pads and caught two tench. 3 1/2lbs and a cracking 5 pounder which ran me all over the place on 4lb line. Both fell to 8mm white seafood boilies and a halibut pellet method mix. A huge thank you to the young lads in pegs 8 & 9 who helped me land it. I later moved to maggot feeder and caught five nice rudd all about 12oz to 1lb and a couple of decent perch. It didn't stop raining the whole time and the weather was getting worse when I whimped out at 10 pm. I left six brave souls down at the lake determined to fish all night. Let us know what you caught fellas. For future reference the lads fishing next to me discovered that "Pizza Go-Go" in Upminster will deliver to the lake. (c'mon!)

I fished peg 10 on the back lake on Saturday 19th. 3pm to 9:30. Red maggot feeder out to the right and a waggler about 15 feet out in front by a lilly. I caught one tench, a small perch and lost one decent fish (tench most likely) on the feeder. I had two tench both about 3 1/2lbs on corn fished on the bottom with a small bit of red rig/boilie foam to critically balance the bait so that it was easily sucked up by nearby fish. I fed brown crumb with small 4mm halibut pellets and some frozen corn (not tinned) mixed in. It was pretty chilly down there on Saturday and the bites were very fussy. I probably would not have caught what I did if it wasn't for the rig foam.

I'd better kick things off then.
I fished peg 10 on the back lake on Sunday 3pm until 8pm. I had a maggot feeder just over half way across the lake near two new lilly pad leaves that are just surfacing. My second rod was a canal float in the right margin near the tree branches using a corn and maggots cocktail on the bottom. All was quiet until about 5pm, then things started to get going. I was snapped up on my feeder three times before finally landing a 6lb bream. I lost another four fish on the feeder even after changing my hook length to 8lb braid and five maggots on a size 10 hook. My margin float did quite well. A little and often steady feed of corn and maggot and a small ball of silver fish fishmeal ground bait every 20 mins kept some great tench and bream feeding. I caught four bream all over 5lbs and three tench around 2 1/2lbs. I missed lots of bites on the float rod I keep telling myself that they were tiddlers but on packing up I realised that my size 18 hook had been blunted. I learned a valuable lesson right there.

Welcome to the latest forum which is at the request of Adam Raynham. Submitting catch reports and pictures for inclusion into the gallery is fine, but discussing how the lake is fishing on a day to day basis, what baits, swims and tactics to use etc, will be of far more use to everyone fishing the lakes. Thanks to Adam and I hope everyone enjoys using the new forum. Dave Haydon.
