You are right of course. We can't possibly change things enough so that the 2010 mail count will be fair.

We can do the few things that are in our power to improve the situation but even with this it will not be fair.

I only see two choices.

1) Do what little we can to improve the situation.

2) Stop spitting against the wind and give up.

If you had to pick?
Decent working conditions.
Current pay level.

Like it or not that's most likely our Hobbesian choice.
(a choice in which both options are bad)

In life we often have to choose between several bad choices.

I don't expect we will do that well in 2010 contract negotiations.

I expect it to be something along the lines of

CURRENT PAY, LESS BENEFITS, POORER WORKING CONDITIONS.

I expect that our people will sign the paper with very little question but what the hell. We will have the privilege of seeing their picture in the national magazine.

There are sooo many carriers unwilling to fight back, for whatever reason, fear of retaliation, lack of knowledge, or just plain laziness, that the changes that need to be made are falling into far too few hands to get the job done.

What could piss off a stew more than having you call him or her to complain, they work it all up for you, then you fail to file.....then next issue, you come back again, and again, and again.

We can't do it for you, and that is a shame. I have seen soo much wrong done to carriers that should have been addressed, and never was, because I can only address issues if they are brought to me, and followed through on.

As long as you are willing to let a manager cheat steal and lie to and about you, without you calling attention to it, I hate to say it, but you deserve what you get.

We try to help, advise you to get YOUR stew to do something, and 9 times out of 10, nothing gets done. Now, we are being threatened by NRLCA for giving you the information you need to protect yourself. I will continue to help where I can, but I ask you, if I am to risk my stewardship to help you, are you gonna take the ball and run with it? If not, ask someone else, I'd rather put myself at risk for someone willing to help themselves than someone that can't or won't follow through.

More likely it's;Hobson's Choice,
Hobson was a stable master, and one could rent any horse in his stable, as long as it was the one closest to the door. In other words, a choice where there was no choice. We will get current pay and abusive, push, push, push, management, customer satisfaction be damned. Sigh.

cinkat, /m21331

In a directive issued by the USPS on 3 March 2004, a change was made in the long-standing and widely accepted practice of permitting “X”, “O”, and "Z" days to qualify a carrier for a free Saturday(s). According to the directive, effective pay period 06-04, the following rural DACA codes will not break the continuity for a “free Saturday” on a “J” or “H” route:

        Annual Leave, DACA code A

        Sick Leave, DACA code S

        Donated Leave, DACA code D

Court Leave, DACA code 6 (new code)

        Holiday Leave, DACA code H

The use of any other DACA codes during a period of leave will break the continuity of the leave and therefore disqualify the carrier for a “free Saturday.”

I think of the word "BOULWARISM" myself.

It was General Electrics labor program for about 20 years.

In General Electrics case they made a reasonable offer.

They then made an offer of "take it or leave it."

GE also made a campaign to show the employees that they were making a fair offer.

It was found to be an "UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE".

rcaforever /m21330 Yes it is the evil postoffice, that is why we didn't get a cola for the last 3 times. Or, it could be our union. NO, anyways who can I blame next.

/m21330 & /m21316, the next salary increase is 1.5% and it takes effect on Nov 21. Just so we have the correct information here.

Oh, and the RCA hourly wage is already known:

Schedule 1 - $18.50
Schedule 2 - $22.02

1) If we have DPS flat sorters
2) If the Postal Service goes to a 5 day work week.
3) If work hours are reduced anywhere near what the Postal Service estimates.

Will the Postal Service have the money to pay the remaining carriers a good wage?

If the above is true.

1) Should we try to get the surviving carriers a good wage in 2010 contract negotiations.

or

2) Should we try to get training for carriers with less seniority so that they may have a chance to find other jobs?

Hey, I just wanted to tell you that it is Wed. and I still don't have my November union magazine, I projected that I would get it today. When you live as far in the sticks as I do, I feel lucky to get any mail. We don't even have cell phone service arouond here. Maybe the magazine will get here this week. Is the new pay schedule in there?
