Press Release
Argentinian label OM Discos’ latest release, “Las Sales Fundentes”, offers a retrospective of compositions by Alan Courtis, founder member of Reynols. The double CD contains a selection of pieces composed by the artist throughout the last decade (1996- 2006). Courtis’ work includes over one hundred albums published by labels from Japan, Europe, USA, and Latin America. He has toured worldwide and collaborated with artists Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Yoshimi & Yamamoto (Boredoms), Damo Suzuki (Can), KK Null, Eddie Prévost (AMM), Rick Bishop (Sun City Girls), Pauline Oliveros, Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers Temple), Masonna, Mats Gustafsson, Tom Carter (Charalambides),Avarus, Toshimaru Nakamura, Tetuzi Akiyama,Rudolf Eb.Er, Kouhei, Astro (CCCC), Nihilist Spasm Band and Lasse Marhaug, among others.

This new CD compiles previously unreleased material along with a slection of works published in Germany, UK, Japan, Finland, Ukraine, Belgium, Norway, and USA. It also contains an Mpeg version of the experimental film “ABC ETC”. The release comes in a specially designed cardboard packaging with acetate window.

Here are some reviews on Courtis’ music:

“Guitarist Anla Courtis has produced an incredible melange of guitar, Toba violin and tape music. The sounds roll on like ducks down a cement mountain. Squeedles of upper register amp noise curl along the edge of clouds on one side, the other is more low-down - like elephants on the killing floor. It's a really great record, and probably the manifestation of a new sort of guitar sound…” Bryon Colley. THE WIRE, UK.

“The mighty glacial drone returns. Courtis leaves it all on the table. Using his guitar as the main weapon, he settles in to making some of the most hypnotic and beautiful music I've heard in some time. This is brilliant. Absolutely stunning”. 9/10 – FOXY DIGITALIS, USA.

“This is the best Courtis’ solo joint I've encountered, or at least the most memorable typical rough and ready gtr onslaught noise looping and splatter slopped efforts. “not” “bad”. THURSTON MOORE. FF reviews.

“The solo work of Courtis is heavy, not exactly in the noise sense of the word, but just heavy. A strong but highly minimal sound. Moving slowly. Hard to say whether the changes are accidents or incidents. But surely fascinating enough. It's short and powerful, not a second too long or too short. Very nice”. Frans de Waard, VITAL WEEKLY, Netherlands.

Testing finished for this feed. It looks like you can get about 40ish characters in your headlines, which includes your name and the content of your message. Your name is posted first in the RSS headline, so think about keeping it short.

As always, this is an experimental feature. I'm hoping that this'll get a lot of use, but it probably won't. Also, there's a danger of heavy spam. Whatever happens, I'll take note of everything and use it in future endeavors.

Enjoy, <-z>

This is a good place to share your experimental-music news with the world. If you've got a new release, an upcoming event or whatever else, post it here.

I haven't done it as of today (Thursday, October 12 2006), but I'm eventually going to put the RSS feed for this page on the Hollow Tree Experimental Music Report website (http://hollowtreestudios.blogspot.com/) and other places, so your news will go all around. You can also use the RSS yourself. There's a chicklet down there at the lower left.
