This isn't my first memory of the band, but it's one that really stands out for me, because it marks how I got to be a back-up singer with them. It was right after Clinton was first elected (remember those heady days?), and I heard that Lise and MCB would be playing for Durham's own version of the inaugural ball, downtown at The Palace. The band was kind of reconstituting itself at that point, as I recall, and there was an opening for a back-up singer. I had sung with Charlie back in the 70's in a bluegrass band, and so Lise knew I had some "background" to be a back-up and invited me to join the band for this gig. There wasn't much time, maybe just a day or two before the gig, so I got to have just one practice before the performance. We picked just a few songs for me to join in on (unfortunately, other than "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow," I can't recall what those tunes were!), and so I got to perform along with them. It was a dream-come-true--I would say, a dream I didn't even realize I had until there I was, having a complete blast! And it's stayed that way. MCB fans are so wonderful, so supportive, so willing to let themselves go and have FUN. It is a joy and a privilege to be part of MCB. Thanks to everybody who keeps coming out to boogie with us!
