My #1 Mobile City memory is this: It's 1983. I am 12. My grandmother and me drive from Raleigh to the old Arts School in Carr Mill Mall in Carrboro. I was reluctant to go see my aunt and uncle's band, because "Quest for Fire" was coming on HBO later that night and I had heard it was pretty racy. (As it turns out, it is racy, but involving Neanderthals and mud.)But Grandma wanted to see Lise and Charlie, so we went. I hadn't ever danced at any of their shows before, and I wasn't about to at that one, either. However, I remember when they played my then-favorite song, Maybelline, I just DID it. I got up there and danced with my Grandma. But of course I made sure no one I knew could see me, which was tough, since I knew a lot of their friends by sight at least. There, in the very middle of the crowd, I attempted to shake my groove thing, and for some reason, I remember thinking about The Little Prince at the time and staring at the ceiling. I was so in awe of them. They were so talented and so much cooler than I could ever be. xoxo Tristin
