Hi everyone, I thought it would be fun to have a place where the folks who've seen us over the years could post a memory of a concert, a party, or some other event where we played. So let your minds drift back and see what comes up.
Oh yes we're playing at the ArtsCenter Saturday night, January 13, so if you're having a little trouble w. memory these days, come on out and see if we can help you refresh it.
See you there, xoxo lise

My #1 Mobile City memory is this: It's 1983. I am 12. My grandmother and me drive from Raleigh to the old Arts School in Carr Mill Mall in Carrboro. I was reluctant to go see my aunt and uncle's band, because "Quest for Fire" was coming on HBO later that night and I had heard it was pretty racy. (As it turns out, it is racy, but involving Neanderthals and mud.)But Grandma wanted to see Lise and Charlie, so we went. I hadn't ever danced at any of their shows before, and I wasn't about to at that one, either. However, I remember when they played my then-favorite song, Maybelline, I just DID it. I got up there and danced with my Grandma. But of course I made sure no one I knew could see me, which was tough, since I knew a lot of their friends by sight at least. There, in the very middle of the crowd, I attempted to shake my groove thing, and for some reason, I remember thinking about The Little Prince at the time and staring at the ceiling. I was so in awe of them. They were so talented and so much cooler than I could ever be. xoxo Tristin

I remember a show at the ArtsCenter, about three years ago. My husband and I went. He's a terrific dancer but sometimes it's hard to get him up and moving, He wants to listen to the music but not move much. So I went out on the dance floor and felt like I was back in college--dancing with lots of folks and by myself. The music was infections; my feet never stopped. Lise's haunting voice and the band energy kept me out there all evening. I can't wait to get back on Saturday.

This isn't my first memory of the band, but it's one that really stands out for me, because it marks how I got to be a back-up singer with them. It was right after Clinton was first elected (remember those heady days?), and I heard that Lise and MCB would be playing for Durham's own version of the inaugural ball, downtown at The Palace. The band was kind of reconstituting itself at that point, as I recall, and there was an opening for a back-up singer. I had sung with Charlie back in the 70's in a bluegrass band, and so Lise knew I had some "background" to be a back-up and invited me to join the band for this gig. There wasn't much time, maybe just a day or two before the gig, so I got to have just one practice before the performance. We picked just a few songs for me to join in on (unfortunately, other than "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow," I can't recall what those tunes were!), and so I got to perform along with them. It was a dream-come-true--I would say, a dream I didn't even realize I had until there I was, having a complete blast! And it's stayed that way. MCB fans are so wonderful, so supportive, so willing to let themselves go and have FUN. It is a joy and a privilege to be part of MCB. Thanks to everybody who keeps coming out to boogie with us!

I love these sweet messages! Thanks, people. Saturday night was a blast! What a convergence of energy. Donna's 60th birthday, and Sue's surprise party, Rodger and Karen's marriage, Bill Henderson's wonderful presence on fiddle, Wes and Lisa coming out of the dark times of housebuilding hell and into the light of life again, other nearby birthdays (Patti's and Mary's), plus getting to hear Adrian and his fantastic band for the first time! It was a wonderful wonderful night. Thanks to all of you who came, and see you next time, all you folks who couldn't make it. We'll keep you posted about gigs. We're trying to set something up for spring with Stella... Much love, xoxo Lise

Hi Lise, Great seeing you at the Jordan Lake Music Festival. You and the band were great, as usual. Sorry there weren't more folks. I was the one who talked to you about getting a copy of "Shut Up and Dance," mine was on cassette tape and has gone to that great tape place in the sky. Let me know how I can get a copy. I look forward to seeing more of you and the band in the future. Oh, and my favorite memory - well, let's not talk about the memory thing. Any one of numerous nights in Chapel Hill in the late 70's.
