What's wrong with black socks and sandals on the beach? :)

Yeah, my mule's like that. She really doesn't like horses all that well, but I make her put on her big girl panties and get right in there amongst them.

Just one comment on this...if someone who is not riding brings a horse/donkey, they should not stand next to the rail if the course of fire comes close to the rail. If their horse/donkey starts acting up, it would be distracting to the rider. My horses while they are not scared of donkeys always give them a HARD look, like they are some type of strange foreigner (kinda like we look at sunburned tourists in Speedos with black socks, wearing sandals at the beach) One of my horses is not fond of miniture horses. He keeps his eye on them while keeping his distance. (I feel the same way about clowns and mimes)

Lone Wolf,
Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. That's what they say when they try to sell you something. MSRP is $0000 but we're going to sell it to you for 1/2 that.
My thoughts exactly about the horses. Besides, how would you inforce it? Tell the people that are boarding their horses at Canterbury that they have to leave during the match.
Morning Sun,
That's exactly what I read. A couple of "suggestions" but only to people entering matches. Nothing about non competitors. Again, how would you enforce it?

Muleskinner - What's MSRP? Also, we encourage people to bring horses to matches even when not shooting. Just standing outside the arena with the other seasoned horses helps desensitize the horse. As long as they don't act up too much and cause a ruckus.

I saw that article and was wondering about that too. Sounds like a controversial conversation could get started with this one!

This is the only thing I found.

HORSES
SASS Mounted Shooting competition is open to any horse or mule, registered or grade. A competitor must use the same horse throughout the entire match.
However, should a competitor or Match Director deem a horse physically unfit to continue the match, the competitor may ride a backup or borrowed horse to finish the match. The competitor shall not be allowed to return to the original mount that was deemed unfit to ride. No more than two riders may use the same horse. A competitor may enter a competition
more than once by paying the additional entry fees; but, must use a different horse for each entry and may not mix the same horses in the entries.
**Horses should be introduced and conditioned to the sound of gunfire prior to competing in a match. A Mounted Shooting competition is not the appropriate form to introduce your horse to the sound of gunfire for the first time.**
New riders and/or mounts shall demonstrate they can safely control/be controlled during the completion of a course of fire prior to entering a competition.
Basically, a rider needs a well-trained horse conditioned to tolerate gunfire he or she can keep under control with one hand on the reins while shooting with the other hand.
No abuse of animals is allowed. If the Range Master determines a mount is
being abused, an initial warning will be issued. If disregarded, expulsion from the match will follow.

I just got my copy of the Nov. Cowboy Chronicle. On page 12 was a long letter about bringing untrained horses to SASS matches. It references a "Regulation" that "prohibits anyone other than a registered shooter" from bringing a horse to a match. It then goes on for paragraphs about how dangerous, crazy, unpredictable horses are. Sounds like a lot of B.S. to me. I looked through the rule book and could find no such regulation. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Muleskinner Carol, it is up to the individual on the amount they would like to donate. I know it will be easier on us not to have to remember to grab some cash after the match. I know that I don't have cash on me at the match. So I left the box open, so you can enter the amount you would like to donate.

Thanks
Rocky

Do we have a MSRP for the balloon setters donation, or is it up to the individual?

SASS'ers - We are adding a box on the match entry forms that will enable you to donate money to the balloon setters with your credit card. I know there are some of you who never get a chance to give since you leave right after the match and this will give you that chance since I know that you really want to. This will also make things easier on us not having to pass the hat around. Thanks for your cooperation with this.

I know a lot of SASS people like to do some of the bigger CMSA shoots we are in need of input from fellow shooters on having the Southeastern regional shoot the weekend before the Atlantic coast classic. If you would please go to Floridapeacemakers.com message board and voice your opinion we want everyone who shoots opinion.
