Sounds like I made a good decision to go to Eddieville instead of Albany. A bit muddy in the morning, PERFECT the rest of the day. The GP course was, in the words of my 15yr old daughter, off the hook!!

Dosen't sound like anyone is going east this week!? Heard a lot are going north to watch SX,kid and I are thinking?? about Washougal for the weekend,De-vol race? Some are going to Albany to practice. I dont see the club members going(or at least hear)to as many out of state races this year?
 Gordy

Mitch, still planning on Marysville if all goes well with work this week.

Boise was awesome Saturday, but too muddy for a novice rider Sunday. Still loving the new KTM, unfortunatly I wasted a great holeshot testing the electric start in the first moto saturday. The rest of the weekend went better. Ron H.,Carl C, Bob B all road awesome and finished well up in their class results. My buddy Kendall raced for the first time in 20 years and is hooked again. Tired, sore but still ready to go again.

Just an FYI for Seattle; Apparently there is a Mariners game at the same time, right next door, so there are expected to be well over 100,000 people in the same area between the SX and the game. So get there REALLY early if you want to park anywhere near the stadium. Batting pratice starts at 11:00 am and I hear it gets a lot of people even for that.
Bill Mac  486
04-28-2007 12:41 PM ET (US)
Mitch, did we klunk. I must have missed it. How'd you like the first moto start? I had you on the inside for the holeshot, then decided that you deserved it more. So I just shut it off and stopped to watch for a bit. If I ever figure out how to not kill this KTM in the corners I might actually win someday.
PIR was excellent Thursday, we had 25 OT riders split into two motos. I liked being abke to run with the ametuer class on the same gate to see where my early season level is at. The experts were given there own moto, which meant I didn't get lapped.
JR, if I see Ron again I'll lett him know you miss him. I might agree with you on Carl, He doesn't even seem to move slow after saturday motos. How can anyone at 50 not suffer the day after 3 motos? I can't hardly move after riding one.

JR, Your riding already ? Amazing you must be in as good of shape as Chadwick to come back so quick. I didn't here about any drama in the Pro class, saw some good racing in the 250/450 classes. Chris Johnson was ripping on the WB factory ride along with Whillow from the Motosport team. Chris had him covered until a bad get off after the sippy hole jump. I spoke to his mom and she was trying to get him checked out and he seemed against the idea. Looks like a bad bruise to the shoulder/bicep is all.

Anyone want to share fuel to Marysville, got space for one in the RV. Leaving late Thursday from Camas and planning on an all nighter to make the Friday practice. Right now it myself and Chadwick going and we wouldn't mind splitting the fuel with one more.

Anyone have info yet on Rocky Mountain race ? Looks like the boss is going to let me chase points again this year. So i'm thinking about going there also.

Thanks KP.
I am in the 7th inning stretch of +40. I had a crf250 a few years back and thought I was done with dirt bikes. I got a crf450 to do some supermoto(easier on the body) but still really like getting out on the mx track. With all the rain we have been getting I'm starting to look at woodland now for saturday. I think they are still practicing. I wanted to go to PIR this evening but its looking like a washout. I'm not much into the mud riding anymore. I feel slow enough without adding mud to the mix.

Charlie,
I am loaded up to do PIR if they run it. I suck even worse in the mud but what the hell! It might be better then watching TV from my recliner and eating junk. I live in Sandy so I will probably do Mt. View on Sat if the weather lets the track dry a little. If not then maybe Sun.

Good luck to those OT racers going to Marysville this weekend.
KP  506
05-04-2007 11:40 AM ET (US)
They did not run PIR last night. Around 90 to 100 racers signed up but I guess they need about 150 in order to cover thier cost. The track was well prepared but it was soft and would have been rutty. We got rain checks.

WHEN was the last time you saw 24 PRO racers at a local race?? Thats how many there were at the DeVol race today and its a SATURDAY race,we may have more on Sunday. I am not a big Ted fan don't use his stuff ect.BUT he is on to something with the FREE pro entry! They (the Pros) still get paid ,spectators get to watch a good pro race,475 aprox for entrys,so the promotor does ok as well! Might have seen 14 or so in the 40+ class.JR

Update from Marysville
Its now 832p and still 70 at track.

Hello All, hot windy day. Track was good up to mid 2nd moto. Then it turned into a Mtn View, hot dusty hard pan.

Bill MacDonald finished last moto with a 1st, 2nd in point now. (40NOV)
Kevin Hamann finished 5th in last moto (I think) and is tied for 3rd points. (40NOV)
Carl Chadwick finished 2nd in last moto.(50 EXP)
I finished 12th after flat in 2nd moto. (50 AMAT)
Bob Bronwlie finished 2nd in last moto also. (MASTER B)

Over all it was good day.

 Marysville
Mitch, have you been to Honey Lake/ there was a heated battle about where to hold this last weekends race. I favored Honey Lake but hoped the new Marysville crew would put more effort into track prep maintance than the did in the past, did they?? Happy to see the results, please post when home.500 or so at Wash.on Sun.and the track is changing a lot, now 1/2 of the track is on the back side of the hill. Hillboro 5-6 now a 50' table split with a option for a step on step off. See You down at Albany later JR

HEY, Albany Saturday pactice day was muddy in the morning but worked into a good one line track by the afternoon. They ran practice about an hour+ longer than originally planned. We had a good time.
Sunday racing the track was good, 11 +40 Bill ,Mike , Steve .Myself and a bunch of other guys good clean racing. I chased Fidler around both motos eating 450 roost and going 3/3.
For the little guys they had 100% trophies, so my grandson Tyler riding the Kawasaki KLX110 bling machine got to bring home his first trophy. He raced in the 65 beg. class, crashed out in the first moto and got 7th the second moto.
See Ya Gordy

sounds like i should have gone racing istead of practicing at longview. had a brain fart and tried to jump over a berm corner to catch the boys i took with me. 3ft berm one side 10ft down the other side with a 2ft deep drainage ditch.nosed into the ditch and dislocated finger and and compressed my back. ahhhhhhhh thank god for muscle relaxers.

Keith, sorry to hear about your injury. I raced a crf250 at woodland in 04. I went to the track on saturday but even woodland looked too muddy for my tastes. I guess I'm kind of a snob now in that respect. I was shocked when I saw the track. The whole place has been logged. Its just a bunch of burn piles now. Not the place I remember. Sad. Who is going to PIR on Thursday?
Bill Mac  520

Here's what I know from memory of the results from Marysville.
Carl Chadwick 3rd overall 50 master, finished up with a nice 2nd in the last Moto.
Kevin Hamann 3rd overall 40 Novice w/one moto win and a second in the last moto.
Bob Brownlie Master B had a nice event going and took a tough get off in the first moto Sunday. He slid out on the start and was making up time fast when a small double went bad. I'd have to say it was a classic Endo. All checked out okay at the local Hospital. He did get a second on a Saturday Moto and looked to finish well prior to the Endo.
Mitch Alden looked good in 50 am, I think he finish near top 10 even after a flat on Saturday.
Bill Macdonald (me) Took 4th behind Kevin in 40 nov with one moto win and one dumb ass moto. Again thanks to KTM for electric start, just wish the bike came with instructions on how not to kill it in a moto.

Hat's off from me to all the 40 novice riders, we had 6 guys that could win every moto and it was wheel to wheel every moto. Fun, Fun, Fun.

I'd have to say while track conditions were not great the Sierra club and the watering guy did a respectable job with what we had to deal with. Strong north wind all weekend made it really dry. Even had some true blue groove in places.

JR, I aggree with you on Washougal. I've been able to get a few rides in there since the changes were made. The new sections flow nice and while I really enjoyed the old section I've already been able to change my mind.
Funny how I used to hear from riders that wouldn't go to Washougal because it never changed. Now the same riders can't belive they took out the "Chuck Sun " jump and say they wont go back.
The new section in the woods is my new favorite spot to ride. Makes me feel like a hero jumping up and over the hill.

It sounds like Marysville track condidtions are similar to Mtn. View. I enjoy the heck out that place since its only about 15 minutes from home.

OK, here it is... Great week end until I went upside down. Marysville is a nice facility. Dirt is old, worn out, hard pack clay. Watering is done by truck, sometimes dangerous between motos cause they water everything, even jump faces. Track is mostly short table tops, no whoops, doubles or triples. Pretty fun track all in all. Can't blame my get off on any of this. I hit a knob at the base of a 3 foot high 3rd gear fast jump,, kicked the back end just enough to miss the face,, hit the top of my head at full speed on the HARD water truck road next to the track. Don't remember impact or anything up until 1/2 way back to the ambulance. Took about 30 minutes to even remember I was in a race. Good news is,, not paralized. Bad news,, concusion, torn sterno/clavicular joint,(same as Mitch's I think), hurt ankle, knee, head, neck, chest, ribs, ego. Will miss Spokane because of the head injury, don't want to risk permanant damage. P.S. I wear an EVS RC2 collar. I think it helped prevent a colar bone fx and neck injury but it was not enough protection. I had already ordered a Leatt brace but had not arrived yet. When I get the new brace I will ALWAYS wear it and highly suggest everyone else do the same. I was very lucky this time. Thanks to Mitch, Carl, Kevin, Bill and the wives for helping to get us home. See ya all at Washougal or sooner maybe. Bob

Bob! I was glad to hear you were doing well and then very sorry to hear about your get-off (I was getting updates from the Kiwi). If you don't want to return to race pace, you can join me at the back of the pack for some play riding. My neurologist (doesn't everybody have one?) told me I need to modify the way I ride to prevent further knocks to the head (though I think it's already too late to avoid permanent damage).

Happy healing!

HEY ALL OF YOU OUT THERE IN OLDTIMER LAND. I WAS TOLD TO VIEW THE SITE BY A FRIEND OF MYN REGARDING DON'S INJURY.
FOR ALL OF YOU OUT THERE THAT TRULY KNOW US AND CARE, HERE IS AN UPDATE.
DON DID HAVE AN INJURY SUSTAINED AT OAK HILL MX 1 1/2 WEEKS AGO. HE BROKE HIS FEMUR ON THE SAME SIDE THAT HE HAD A HIP REPLACEMENT 1 1/2 YEARS AGO.
HE OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T NEED TO HAVE THE LEG AMPUTATED AS THE WRITER OF THE BLOG WOULD HAVE YOU BELEIVE. HE WAS BLESSED WITH A RENOWNED SURGEON WHO WAS ABLE TO FIX THE FEMUR AND HE IS LOOKING FORWARD TO A FULL RECOVERY.
FOR ALL OF YOU WELL WISHERS (ONLY) I KNOW THAT DON WOULD APPRECIATE ANY CORRESPONDANCE.
THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO REALLY KNOW AND CARE FOR DON AND HAVE CALLED WITH WELL WISHES, THEY ARE MUCH APPRECIATED.
OUR MAIN FOCUS AT THIS POINT IS DON'S RECOVERY AND OUR SON MATTHEW WHO HAS WON 4 NATIONAL TITLES THIS YEAR AND WITH THE FACTORY HELP OF YAMAHA IS LOOKING FORWARD TO MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN AND LORETTA LYNN'S.
THANKS AGAIN AND KEEP ON RACING!

Well guys get ready for 350cc four stroke machines. If you didn't catch
the latest cycle news, Steve Whitlock said most Pro's struggle with the
450 and they tear up the track. Supposedly by 2010. Leroy from Idaho is
an AMA official and he confirmed the rumor. PIR last night for the first time in 8 years, it's good exercise. Thanks Mitch for saving me a spot.

 Guys
Really not a big fan of MX schools, however went to test at Washougal today and saw Ryan Huffman, give a very good class to 15 or so riders, split into small and big bikes. I spent some time watching his class and came away very impressed, cost is around $125 and it lasted most of the day. I forgot about the OT part of Honey Lake ,Chris Young? was the STUD down there and looks like he will be at the Qualifier at Wash. he rode both the 30 and 40 classes and should be a good match for our local fast 40 guys, other than T. Gary: JR: I fell on my artifical hip...nothing broke, but it is badly bruised inside the femur bone. My femur is 75% steel, with bone (25%) wrapped around it. Keith, I know that feeling, the only time I dont wear my neck roll, my grandson and I were dinking around in a field, and went over the bars, and seperated my collar bones. A little $30 neck roll would have saved 6 weeks of misery, pain and agony.

Well the good news is I will never do that again.......haaaahahahahah.

How long are you going to be out of action Keith?

Went to Albany practice today and it was out of this world. Perfect weather and the track was changed up. IT WAS SUPER.....

gordy thanks I think it's getting better no more spassum's and no pain meds. did a little work friday opp's payed for it Sat. No pills for the ego it still hurt's. Jesse love's the 150. The only draw back is the only class he can ride is supermini. First race 11 riders he went 7-3 4 overall and blinged. this last thursday he surpassed my skills or testies and did the pro double at pir.i think the 4 stroke power fits his riding style better than the 2 stroke.now i just need to get him more riding time the fast kids ride 2-4 times a week and he only rides once a week if that. Mitch, This month heck he's big enough now. How ever at 100lbs on a 200lb 250 he just didn't feel comfortable. said it was to hard to correct in the air and he wasn't having fun.now he has fun and seems to be gettting alittle more aggressive. he's only just 14 and i figured what the heck ride supermini with the fast kids and get faster before he jumps to the big bike. Should be safer. Also mxnw said 80jr to 125jr no 125 beg and that was a big jump to me. Sold the 250f to help pay for the 150f. keith

Mitch-not going to Spokane, wish I could it's my favorite track. Still healing. Collar bones, ribs and mush brains. Lucky if I'm 100% by our national. I'll say it again, I think I might of walked away from my get off at Marysville had I been wearing a Leatte brace, I wore a neck roll and still got torn up pretty bad. The roll probably prevented even worse injuries but its not enough. For everyone healing, get well soon. For everyone racing, good luck and have fun. See ya soon.

691 and Annie McC. - Sonny Neff has a broken hand, 2 broken ribs & a broken shoulder blade. Also, "a bruise on his back the size of Texas" wrote his son, James. His son also said, "his Mom and Dad wanted to thank every one for the help at the track loading his bike and getting them on their way." These injuries were from the O.T. race at Marysville.
Sonny - Please take it easy and certainly get well soon & back to riding!

There is a difference I have to pay for my therapy, but it is probably a lot more fun. Last week we were between Madras and Maupin at a spot called White Horse when we had the opertunity to start collecting stuff for free,Ice chests, sage rod tubes, dry bag with sleeping bags, ect. right the boat behind us had sunk, and we were on river clean-up. Along comes 2 dudes all set in high end wadders wearing life jackets, unusual as temps are around 75 ! We chat and they are the guys who lost the boat, been down the river 10 or so times and "just lost it". 8 people in our group so we have food and even a spare tent ,we have a minute of silence ,they lost a bottle of Crown royal!Best part next day they tell us they are from Bend and are a pair of Lawyers,we threaten to toss all the stuff back in! It is a 25 mile hike out but they hitch a ride out with a couple rafts, see lots of fun not on 2 wheels! Watch out for those crazy bouy 10 dudes! JR
 TJRACE
How to make a buck, the practice on SAT IS PAY PER CLASS,if you are trying to go back to LL and want to practice in each of your classes it is $30 per,OUCH!!.They did work on the woops all day Fri and lots of the future top pros are there on their way to LL.should be a great weekend just expensive, nobody said racing was cheap!  Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial opening weekend of boating season. There is an old saying that goes somthing like this, "A fool and his money are soon parted." I think they buy boats fill them with alcohol and you can imagine the fooish results. However I would rather see these fools on the river than on the MX tracks I enjoy

Well Washington Old timers in Spokane was great. The Track was prepped really good. They said the had 215 riders. And some of the Oregon guys did good. Ron Hudson won his class, Carl Chadwick was smoking (thanks for letting me ride your bike, even though it was KTM). Bill Mac and Kevin the KTM Terr guys rode really well. Kevin P did good for his first full length national after PIR. Kendall and my self, well we are getting there. Kevin E is a newcomer and really liked the Old Timers.

I beleive there was some sand bagging. In the 40 novice class the 1st and 2nd were sand bagging amatuers.

In the 50 amatuer class, the top 3 finished consistently 4,5,6 with the 50 experts. And they started split gate second. And that is the two races I watched. As I was in one, and got lapped by the top 3 experts and then the top 3 amatuers maybe 2 straight wayas behind.

Well anyways is was fun, we had good oregon camp, and Patty took lots of pics, besides Kevin P and myself. We will have online this week.

Spokane was fun. The organization, the facility and the track prep was very good. Washington OTMX dinner on Saturday was very good. I recommend doing this race next year. The track was challenging enough for the experts but easy enough for a novice like me to enjoy. That is the first time I have done five races in two days and man I am sore today. My wife and Mitch were yelling at me to get on the gas but I was running on fumes for the last moto on Sat and Su. Carl got a really nice trophy with a photo of him racing on it. He was smooth and consistent. Bill Mac did great when he got good starts. He is much faster this year on his new KTM. Mitch had some great battles every moto with the same guy. It was fun waiting to see who would be in front of who when they came around each lap. Mitch was lifting his foot off the peg over the palm tree table-top, doing some styling. Darr was doing good on Saturday but he got banged up in the Sunday practice when he was trying to clear a new double they put in Sat. night and will be out action for a few weeks with a busted shoulder. I did not see Kevin H. because he was always somewhere way in front of me, finishing very well except for one bad moto where I think he had trouble re-starting is bike.
Best weekend I have had in awhile, thanks for the good company.

Well I am a Factory Yamaha dude in my mind.....hahhah. no I rode his bike after mine broke first moto Sunday. It was nice.

Sorry Darr & Kevin H, I was typing my message and my laptop died. Well Darr had a bad get off Sunday morning. Darr rode really good Saturday and was probably going to beat Kevin H the KTM Terr..... Hope you get well soon Darr.

Kevin H…aka… Kevin the KTM terr…. (inside joke) rode good also. He looked flashy and was battling it out with Bill Mac for Oregon honors. He needs a Yamaha and he would be king of the class..

Well I’ll put some pics out here this week and yeall should come to meeting on Wednesday. I hate to say but Washington might not get as many riders as we get, but they get a lot more participation.

I had great time, Mrs. Yamaha Factory wife concurs. Our camp was great. We really really enjoyed all your company and fellowship.

Gordy,

Of course spouses are allowed. No charge. As for kids, they are welcome and are allowed to ride as long as they are on a big bike (125cc and up) No minis. This is following Mt Views rules for their limited pratices, which this basically is. All we did was reserve all of the spots for us. We are allowed up to 50 people and it is first come first served. We did not do any sign ups at the meeting so there is a fair chance for evryone to sign up.

Also just to clarify, we are NOT accepting NEW MEMBER sign ups at this playday. I know we have accepted them in the past but not for this playday, mainly due to the limited number of riders allowed. We want to give the existing memebers a chance to ride.

Also, we need to know whos coming, and I didn't see where Mitch mentioned this, but if you want to go, you need to email him so we have a head count.

So just to be clear, this is for existing 2007 members and their immediate family (support class if you will). And sorry again, but no minis.

Mitch,
I want to recognize you for making great web pages for our Oregon chapter. If you look at some of the other Old Timer MX web sites you realize how blessed we are to have your web skills. I suspect there are people we will never know of who are enjoying the pics and track information you have assembeled. Thanks for all the time you put in for other folks to enjoy.

OKEE DOKEE!!! Once again my ADHD is in full swing and I gave out some bum info. So I will attempt to clarify. I don't think its the first time.

1) June 10ths practice is for current 2007 card carrying members ONLY. NO SUPPORT, NO MINIS. Spouses and family are more than welcome to come and spectate and camp out. Riding is $10 per rider, spectators are free. There is NO limit on the number of riders AS LONG AS YOU ARE A CURRENT 2007 MEMBER as of June 1st, 2007. You do NOT need to pre -register.

2) We are NOT accepting new member sign ups on this day.

3) We are NOT taking sign ups for the National

4) All current members will be recieving an invitation to the playday.
If you got an invitation, you can come.

So hopefully I cleared up any confusion, not the least my own. Sorry if I added any. Please email me if you have any other questions.

Chadwick and myself are making a late Friday run over chasing points. Were hoping to get there saturday in time for signup and then mad dash home Sunday.
I've searched the internet for photos or anything on the track and couldn't find a thing. At the Spokane race they asked for rider to show for support of the club and said the track would be OT friendly. Who knows what that means.

See you all Sunday for practice

Sorry to hear that you & Erik are going through the recovery mode stretch. My right wrist took over two years two get right. Thumb, pointer, and birdy fingers would go numb after five laps. We are good to go now. Brandon has his new RM85 with the usual 3k of aftermarket bling added ons. Bill shipped my TC450 yesterday. Moved from Tulsa to OK city, so we are 1.5 hours closer to Oregon. We are working our way back, but the racing is so good down here, that we are going to hit the Oklahoma & Texas racing for awhile. We are 30 minutes from Cooperland, 1 hour to Ponca. If anyone wants to ship their kid here, etc... Sheryl & I will make sure they get to the races, feed'em etc... I'm gonna look pretty on my new Husky!

Play day update;

We have rescheduled our Mt View playday for Sunday, July 1st.

Now we realize that there is a Washougal race that same day (Pacific NW Champ) and hopefully it won't be a conflict for too many of you, but it was the only day available to us. We are trying to give those going to our National some extra quality practice time.

So here are the particulars, and hopefully I've got it correct the first time out. (that would be a first)

Cost is still $10 per person. Its open to Old Timers members only, just like the last one we tried to have. That means all 30+ and over riders who are Oregon members. No support, guests, minis, etc. Family and friends are welcome to come and hang out, camp and join us for lunch. There is free camping the night before.

HOWEVER, since we have a bit more time this time around, we are allowing people to send in their membership between now and then and be able to ride. The cutoff time will be the Wed or Thurs before the date. I'll need to check with Robbie since she is the one who will be handling them. This would also be a good time to sign up for the National. You can send in one check and get it over with in one fell swoop.

There are no new member sign ups at the practice.

We are not accepting entries for the National that day.

There is no limit on the number of riders, as long as your a member by the cutoff.

This is not meant to be arbritary. It is simply to give Robbie enough time to process the apps and compile the list. And one of the reasons we are doing the playday itself the way we are is for the same reason. She already has enough to do and we don't want to add any more labor to her time. Or anyone elses for that matter. We want this to be as simple as possible for all involved.

I'm not clear if we are sending out invites again. I would assume so?

And speaking of labor, we still need volunteers for the National. we have had a posting here on the website for over 2 months, and to my understanding, the response has been minimal. Mainly we still need people to help serve dinner. We don't need flaggers or waterers, just people to help feed the expected 700+ people. (riders and family) so if you or some family members can help out, we'd appreciate it.
The Prez  634
06-14-2007 01:40 PM ET (US)
Further update:

The deadline for memberships is June 29th. This is the same cutoff time for pre-entries for the National. So if you get it in by that date, not only wil be you in for the playday, but also save on your entry fee.

OK another possible help request.

It looks like my bike is not going to be operable for the Oregon Old Timer National (Transmission). And I am so wrapped up finishing my house to sell (which is two weeks ahead schedule) I am not going to get my bike repaired until mid July.

So If anybody has a 450F (Yamaha 1st choice) or 250 two stroke, or 250f I could ride for the Oregon Race I would appreciate hearing from ya. Obviously I would pay for any repairs needed if they happen.

Send me an email at webmaster@oregonoldtimers.com

Results from Rocky Mountain;
Carl Chadwick 3rd 50 master, Bill Mac 3rd novice, Kendall Kistner 10th Am.

The track at Rupert was in the infield of a horse track, and mostly soft sand. It had a long start, nice sand berm corners and Whoops, Whoops and more whoops !!!!!! There was at least 6 seperate whoop/rythym sections on the track with one section of a series of 4 easy double jumps that all had easy long landing areas. Did I mention Whoops, Whoops and more Whoops.
The track crew did a great job with watering and the race was well run.
I'm guessing that there were approx 100 riders which got us on the road early Sunday. I'd recommend it for next year if you can make it over there and you like WHOOPS.

Hello from Oklahoma. We will be back in Oregon for the nationals at Washougal, July 25th thru the 31st. Sheryl & Brandon are going to stay through mid August. My new Husky TC-450 is here, Wow, what a power house, its fast. This is the first bike that has everything I wanted out of the box. There has been so much record rain fall in Oklahoma City, that 14 out of 16 events have been rained out. You cannot ride on wet red clay. We were rained out at two different tracks this weekend. Still focused on getting home, we just need a little while longer. The most Husqvarna's at a race at one time hmmm, 1972 or 73 at Washougal. I was in the mini class, riding a hodaka steens, what a tank... We are focused on getting back asap... Just have to finish a pretty large project I am on first. I committed...

PIR. For practice track was exellent. Sunny and warm for a little while. They made all the jumps bigger. Stuff I was doing last week I just rolled last night. They actually had to water the start because it was getting dry. Then rain came in. 1st 40+ moto was slippery but track holding up well. Some guys going down but none hurt I think. 2nd 40+ moto track was a little better, but fewer guys on the line.

Main Pro race was 20 laps. Lots of very fast guys, many from far away.

Wow, Carmichael # 149. Villipoto 2 in a row. Josh Hill not in top ten.
Yamaha has got to get him a better performing bike! He has been struggling
with an ill tempered bike all year, not sure if that was the case Sunday or not. Suzuki needs to beg Ricky to finish out the season. $$$

TJrace,
As there are no points in the +30 class running more than 1 gate would
take to much time, and we need to make sure the OLDTIMER classes get the
full amount of time on the track. There are 42 gates and there has been ample time for riders to make plans to attend or not. There still might be
room in the "B" class. This is not something new, the +30 "C" class has
had a full gate at each of our races at Washougal. Plan ahead for next year. Might try support class??

No worries. I think a couple of my friends are already signe up. I definitely don't want to infringe upon the Old-timer motos. I'm not thinking a separate moto - just a split gate. I figured waiting 30-45 seconds for a 2nd gate wouldn't impact the schedule too much. I thought the hassle of separate scoring would be more of an issue, not that it would be any different than any other multi-gate moto. Is there still room in Master B for a trail rider turned MX-er turned trail rider? Yee Haw!

Does anyone know if they will have support and 30 plus classes at the BColdtimers event?

Can you get in and out of the country with a birth certificate and ID?

How many hours drive is it from Portland approx?

Hope that all injuried riders have a speedy recovery, and get their health back soon. Being new to this club, is their donations being taken for our riders down to make things go smoother for them? Great riding, by Mike "hole shot" Hamness.

Word on the street is that the passport services are way behind in processing and a driver's license and birth cert. will do for travel over land.
As far as contributions to the injured that is new to me but maybe an option for us to try. Come to a meeting on the last Wednesday of the month at Izzy's and we can discuss.

They run +30 classes, support A,B, and Mini's. Thanks to all of the club members and families for pitching in and helping. I would call the weekend
a success. Pat Dougherty was great to have helped from the Idaho club. We
welcome him any time he can make it. His recovery continues to baffle the doctors. I hope all of the injured riders a speeedy recovery. August 11-12

Thanks to the folks who worked to make the Oregon race a success. Taxel did a great job speaking in public for his first time. Paulson and the other announcer did a great job on the P.A. Thanks to Joanne and the other folks who did a great job with dinner.

I got some pics of Shep, Brownlie, Paulson, Chadwick, Alden, S. Lampkin and me and sent them to Mitch via email.

I was talking to a guy on the line and he said "ya, that 3rd moto was like running into cinder blocks". We both got a chuckle out of that. It was fun and I am looking forward to B.C.

It was great to have Dougherty on the mic (even if he gave me a bunch of grief for my new trail-rider status) and Curtis did a fine job as well.

My wife found some 'news' relating to Sunday's crashes: http://www.koin.com/Global/story.asp?s=6760259

Regarding the drive to BC, it should be about 6 hours but a couple years ago it took me about 10 due to traffic out of Portland and then traffic through Seattle.

I dont know the people injured in 40 expert race however I was in that race and almost landed on one of the bikes myself coming off of the top before ski jump but managed to barely miss the bike. I noticed three bikes and people laying on track as each lap passed. I think they checker flagged us early to get us off track. Talked to another rider who said he was right behind them and saw the whole thing. He said she landed on another rider which caused her to catapult down track. That is all I know. Hope everyone recovers quickly.

Great to hear Wade (the looking good part)! Tell Susan get well.

I was right there at the first turn when you crashed but didn't see it happen, just the aftermath. Happy healing to you as well.

Who else was injured in that race? I only heard about Susan.

I heard today (from a fairly reliable source) that someone with neighboring property to Washougal is very anti WashouglMX and is in a position of power at KOIN. That probably helps explain the 'Bloody Weekend at Washougal...' headline the KOIN website ran (which now, interestingly, says 'Rough Weekend...'). Hmmmm.... Dave (191)

As for the KOIN connection, yes, I believe there is one. I don't remember his name, but the main "combatant" against Washougal works there. He is the driving force in trying to get it closed down. He keeps losing, but unfortunately he keeps trying as well. And the EMTs feeding them info cetainly doesn't help

Thanks for the update on Susan and the others. We will continue to keep them in our prayers. And I'm all for the donation idea. Lets fugure out how to make it happen. Email me with any ideas

I sent this email to KOIN:
I was racing at Washougal last weekend and I was alarmed at the headline KOIN used to report on some rider injuries that took place there. The word "Bloody" day at Washougal was a lie and completely inaccurate. I noticed somebody eventually wised up and changed it to "Rough". Some bones were broken and that happens in many sports, like football, soccer, baseball, volley ball, skate boarding, etc. Children fall off bicycles or out of trees, people fall off ladders, or down stairs. People break bones everyday doing various activities. It is wrong to portray Washougal MX track in the negative light that KOIN did.

Mt. View practice on Saturday. The track was pretty good. They changed direction so it was fun learning the new flow.

Went to the AMA National. RV rode like a mad man coming from last to 3rd in second moto after going down in 1st turn. Passed 20 riders in 1st lap. Crashed again passing Dungey for 2nd place, otherwise I think he had a shot at catching Townley for 1st. Josh Hill tried hard but was off the leaders pace by quite a bit. Those Pro-circuit motors sure sound good.

I thought bubba's bike blew saw some smoke as he came around the corner just before the ski jump. I agree it was the best nat.s Iv'e seen in the last 10 + years. Hey Bob where did you order your parts. I ordered from a Yamaha dealer in SC. mrcycles.com. They were fast, I ordered last thursday, and they will be here tommorrow. And there about 20% cheaper than anybody else Ive seen. So I will have my back back at BC.....see ya guys there ...it ought to be fun. Lots of Oregon people going.

Ordered everything from yamaha of troy, 20% discount as well. They held everything waiting for a gasket kit and I just found out yesterday after coming back from a 10 day vacation. So I asked (told) them to over night everything but the gaskets, should be able to find them local. YOT does hundreds of orders daily, poor comunication and no fax or email capability...? So they said. Still should have everything back together before BC.

Forrest, slow is relative. Im sure there are quite a few 40+ riders that are faster than us. Actually I would say proably 70% of the racers out there are faster than us.

You know what they say, for every rider who thinks he such hot stuff, there are at least 10 more that are hotter.

I was watching from the sidelines as you old timer guys beat up on the 30+ last night. Well done!

In 40+ I took a close inside line around a rutted turn and the banners reached out and put on my front brake for me. You can imagine how that turned out. My leg got caught under the bike and by the time I extracted myself the moto was over. Banged up ribs again but I am still going to BC. Three cheers for Advil!

Jay Hewitt was at Albany Practice. Erik was behind him and saw him slide out and go down. Erik made it o.k. around him. It is our understanding, two quads were next and one(?) hit Jay Hewitt. We also "heard" the hit damaged his heart. So very, very sad for the Hewitt Family and all friends.

MAKES ME QUESTION WHY WE DO THIS? I pay so my kid can race, and practice and it is very painful to see a young life lost at this sport. Thinking about ways to make what we do safer, without my usual impluse. I know what we do is dangerous ,but I also know there are things we can do to limit some of the injury .THINK about some of the things YOU would like to see IMPROVED in the interest of rider safety and post HELPFUL sugestions here and i'll try to get the ball rolling on improving safety at our local tracks. TRY to keep it HELPFUL maybe we can make a difference! THANKS- JR

Given the profile, width of the quads to the track, weight of a bikes 210 lbs to a quads 480 lbs, the manuverability of a bike to a quad, and the fact that the bike & rider tend to go down more often, Why do we put the two together? Split them up! does'nt sound to hard. Ever had one coming up on you from behind, and in your mind your questioning the riders ability? if so you know what I'm talk'in about. Love to ride them though.

I am glad we went to BC. The track is fun and Old-Timer Friendly. The dinner Saturday evening was awesome and they even provided beer. We had a great camping spot with fire to sit around at night. I enjoyed everyones company. Good weather. Lots of good racing. I was doing pretty good by my standards (my buddy FAST Forrest would have been proud)but I hit the ground pretty hard in the last moto. I will be off the bike for a few weeks I think. Taxel looked great and was doing well but the long straight was getting rough by the last moto on Sat. and he got bit pretty good. I bet he's in less pain then me now that his shoulder is back in the socket. Brownlie had the starts dialed and rode awesome - got second overall. Kevin H. roosted me good on his mighty KTM. I was actually able to race with Bill Mac. some which made me happy because that means I was doing better. Hope to make it again next year.

As everyone said, fun times all around. Fun track except I didn't care for the dirt. The jumps were a gas. But crashing that hard takes a little something away, if you know what I mean. Plus I MISSED the dinner.

BUt I REALLY wanted to thank everyone there that helped me out. Kevin Powell for the return ride from the hospital, Bob and Lisa Browlie for the food, pillows and whatnot,( I still have your sleeping bag) the Bianchini clan for loading up my stuff while in the ER, the Vicoden, and for the breakfast both days. Actually, everyone was more than willing to share what they had and help out, so if I missed anyone specific, I'm sorry

So again to EVERYONE, THANK YOU!!!!

KP, I was right behind you when you went down in the lower whoop section and I am just glad I didn't hit you! I also had a "get-off" earlier that moto and I have a good sized knot on the side of my ribs. I think they are just banged up and bruised a bit, so I feel lucky.

Went to PIR tonight. It was kinda fun, but I agree old timer races are much more fun. Raced with the 30+.

I would rather be at BC or Fernley or SPokane.

Will be posting pics from Kevin Powell this weekend.

I dont have much racing experience but I have ridden on 5 different So Cal tracks and all the local tracks in our area. My top three favorite tracks are 1)Spokane, 2)Agassiz and 3)Washougal in that order with the first two being very close. I will have to wait until 08 to see what Fernley is like.

PIR is a hectic 5 minute sprint. I appreciate it and plan to enjoy it when I can but to me it cannot compare to an OTMX event.

hello fellow mxers! i see a lot of positive comments about the old timers racing events, and how every one has a good time. we can attempt to duplicate this by organizing members around select practice days in our area. for example, washougal has a practice scheduled for this wednesday. maybe some of us could make it, and meet over by the pro gate!! hope to see some of you! forrest, i would like to show you some different views of my rear fender, that is if your not too busy sandbagging at pir! were still buddies!! ha ha ha

It took a while to catch up reading thru the postings from BC. Glad to hear Dave and Kevin are doing okay. KP definitly rode the race of his life, I was a bit surprised every race he seemed to be right there with me or on one occasion in front of me, at least until that last moto. If the club ever has had or has thought about a most improved rider award my vote goes to KP.
As far as my deal at the hospital Mitch mentioned, I ended up some how with an intestinal infection that required surgery. I'm feeling better and should know more wednesday after another minor surgey is done if I'll race again this season. Thanks for your calls and prayers.
KP  842
08-20-2007 03:05 PM ET (US)
Thanks for all the kind words. You know if you hang out with Forrest Lytle you have to get faster. He just oozes speed all the time and I guess some of it got on me. To be honest, he is a pretty decent amatuer level racer for 50 + years old. He did the GP at Washougal last year and he was a lap ahead of me at the finsh so he does have some endurance. I think he will make Spokane next year since they have a 65cc class for his son and I talked that track up so much to him.

The Aggassiz track was pretty friendly and did not have any real technical jumps so it makes novices like me look better then they really are. Just proves even a friendly track will let you bust yourself up. Good to hear from you Bill. That must have been some nasty infection you had.
Mitch#60  843
08-20-2007 11:06 PM ET (US)
Kevin, Dont fool your self.

The Agassiz track is technical and the jumps were designed for all riding abilities. And I agree with the other comments you improved dramatically.

So just get well and keep practicing and you will probably be surprised how fast things change in riding ability.

Also I saw this body armor.

Tough hearing the ST. P news, he has been a large part of OT racing for as loog as I can remember, also always been a really nice guy to follow when I raced with him. Looks like a Wed. trip up to Washoug. Did you do well at the 2nd Can. race, and did they have a large turnout? My wife says I act childish, does that count?

Glad everyone is slowly on the mend. I guess you could say that its better that these things happened coming into winter as opposed to spring (trying to ook at the bright side)

And ITS ABOUT TIME concerning the quads at Albany. I HATED being on the track at the same time with those things. But now it looks like we have to wait yet another 15 -20 minutes for them to have their time. Personally I don't think there is enough of them to worry about having them at all.

Quick update from Fernley. Small turn out here, biggest class 40 Novice with only 11 riders. Only 6 in 40 Am. Hot and windy this year, but the club has done an awesome job on the track, fast and almost no dust.
Only 4 Oregon Riders here, Mitch in 50 Am, Carl Chadwick 50 Master, One new member, sorry I forgot his name in 50 Nov and myself in 40 Nov.
Chadwick is sitting second after today behind Kastner. He actually passed Kastner half way thru the 3rd moto, but Kastner came back to win by about 5 seconds. Mitch is riding great, I believe sitting in 5th currently. Our new member is doing okay and I suck. That's it for now.

I would like to hear more details... BUT it sounds like the race at the
fabled Mammoth can't be an Oldtimer shootout IF we all can't participate.
I would say let Oldtimers Pre-enter till a certain date and if any spots remain, open it up. I think they could come close to the 400 riders just with oldtimers am I right?

Villipoto with a 19 point lead 1 race to go. Yamaha is going to get lucky on the roll of the dice with Langston, unless he has two bad moto's next weekend. Josh Hill top ten in 450 class.

Reno was fun for all that attended. We did have a bit of dust, okay a lot of dust. However it was only in the pits, not the track as the club did an awsome job on watering. Thanks t Mitch and Joann for getting everyone pitted together again, they have done a great job this year gathering the wagons at the races. I had fun racing to the first corner every moto, a couple of nice holeshots on the KTM and then I just put it in cruise mode.

Hey Bill. I wish I was in Nevada to eat dust with you. I found some pics on the Nevada OTMX web page but I think the pics are only their guys = makes sense. I will be riding again the end of this month but I wont have any strength or endurance so I would not last more then a moto or two at Glen Helen. I may do a few Woodland races if the weather is not too bad. I bought a new 06' CRF450 from Hillsboro to replace my 05' CRF250. They have them for only $4499 right now. I have to get use to 50HP instead of 34HP and I am looking forward to that.

albany had a practice on friday before ore state races. I was stuck at work ,but the kid was able to go, and told me about it when he got back home. they weren't running the sand lake part of the track, instead the track made a left and went over a double right next to a tree. the kid said he was laying on the back side of the double, he was'nt sure what had happen. his list of injuries sounded alot like your last two crashes.

Second race of the three day series he gets taken out hard,sub-frame,front brake lever,REAR brake pedal, bars throttle, AND his shoulder, wouldn't allow his arm to lift for a couple days.A solid week of shop therapy( 150# ) parts loading manually and he got to race Mt.View today. No pro's but he got to ride with a few fast Int's, took overalls in the last 2 moto's and was not on his head all day. Hey Forrest, This is my only other means of getting to you as I cant beat you on the track yet. But there is next season. Might make Albany practice this weekend Saturday actually.

But we really do have a lot of fun racing at Old Timer Events, and there is lots of competition. The 40 amatuer is pretty tought. Thats why Im glad I turned 50, the 40 class is really fast. The 50 amatuer is pretty fast, but more fun.

Kevin Powell really turn it up at BC. Until he got hurt. So maybe he will heal fast and get back on it. Anyways most of the OT races have mini races in addition to the old timer motos. Look at the schedule and check out some of the races next year. http://www.oregonoldtimers.com/schedule08.htm.

And it is very family oriented and we just have a lot of fun camping and racing.

We are definetly going to LACR, Idaho, Washington, Hangtown, Oregon, BC and Nevada. Talk later.....Mitch

Backwards Washougal was awesome yesterday - maybe the best I've ever seen it. Bunch of new dirt, really good flow and some fun obstacles. Couple spots got rough but that's motocross. Might have to go back up Wednesday.

Pit people at Washougal, Naylor,Gene Chittam,And some famous MASTER who doesn'T LIKE TO BE WRITTEN ABOUT,SO NO NAME JUST A PARTIAL NUMBER (83*).Famos Masters kid Jason Parks looked reall good on a 2-stroke Yam,also noticed a lot of the ring-dings in the 40 class as well, might be they are way cheaper to own. Lots of riders 7-8 Pros,20 or so Int,s ,plenty of 40+ guys, total of 500. Strange this comming weekend little to do racing then the following weekend we get to choose between Albany(Sat-Sun trans cal) Washougal( great track), and a big pro race(lots of $$) over in Redmond!
RUMORS "THE GREAT BONDS" was out on a bike at Albany and had a practice buddy with him who I haven't seen in a long time, maybe G.B. will give us a update on his trainning partner? See ya at the races JR

I burned a vacation day from work and went to Washougal but they did not open their gate for their scheduled practice. There was some speculation but I did not hear anyone who could explain with certainty why. The web page did not say anything about canceling. Seems very irresponsible to do that to your relatively small number of clientele, especially on a Wednesday. Someone called Riverdale and they said they would open for us so quite a few folks decided to drive up there. Had a good practice there with other Oregon OT members.

Hey KP, are you recovered from the crash in BC. Talked with Forrest and was trying to convince him to come to some Old TImer events.

Well going to Longview practice on Saturaday.

CYA all at the meeting wednesday.

Hi Mitch. I am feeling pretty good. Still healing but okay to ride. I am basically just cruising around on impulse power to make sure I keep it on two wheels.

I am hoping Forrest will go to two or three OT races next year. I think he would do well and have fun in the 50+ amateur class. I think he would like Extreme in Spokane and Agassiz.

I have not been to Longview in awhile. How has the track condition been there?

Victor 767, where have you been?

I burned a vacation day as well to not ride Washougal. I wish I had known about Riverdale as well but I ended up riding some trails at Jones Creek. Better than work, but not what I was hoping for.

Sorry you guys missed Washougal, I had heard Wednesday was cancelled and didn't make the short trip from my place. Kendall lives up there and reported that the track was crap, lot's of mud was the reason for the cancellation. I went up yesterday and they started grooming for the weekend event and the track looks awesome for the GP. Just so happens that we(Chadwick,Kendall and myself) got to ride a fresh groomed track yesterday, just had to avoid a bit of mud up on the hill and the rest was awesome running backwards. Eric Hall (some of you will know the name)was grooming and the jumped on Carl's KTM and threw down a few laps. He looked a bit rusty, but still showed some amazing speed and moves for a guy who say's he has only ridden 30 laps in the last ten years.

Anyone know of any TV coverage or MX des Nations?
KP  922
09-22-2007 01:03 PM ET (US)
Bill,
I think the only coverage is via the internet through Media-Zone and it cost 20 bucks. You have to watch it on your computer. If you have a tv with a computer input you can then watch it on your tv. I am not planning on doing that but it would be kinda fun to get a few guys together and pay maybe 5 bucks each. There is a web link to media zone below.

I just read this on the net concerning the qualifying races for tomorrows MXDN race:

The showdown between Cairoli and Villopoto didn't happen Saturday. RV got the holeshot in his qualifying race and totally checked out. Cairoli maybe 5th or 6th on the start but had too much battling to do to even see RV on the track. RV was maybe half a lap ahead after 20 minutes.

RC checked out in his qualifying race, even though Grant Langston made a move on him early, but RC got back by.

Ferry battled with J-Rod and Byrne to take the third and final qualifier, making the day a full Team USA sweep.

New Zealand is out of the event. Townley hurt his shoulder Saturday morning, and Hurley got a concussion, so that's a bummer for a very strong team.

Hey KP, I wnt riding this AM at Longview motocross track. It was good conditions on 90% of the track, fresh groomed, not dust except for one straigt. Got to ride for 3 hours and there was only 10 people total. Awesome....

See ya meeting if you can go next Wednesday.

By the way next year I am going to be going to the Tulare race at the end of March. Hopefully I will have my new toy hauler by then, lots of room for hauling bikes.

Ok Cya soon.

Hey Mitch. Nice to hear Longview is taking good care of their track.

Woodland opens for practice on Oct-13th and 14th. I hope they clean up the grounds. It was pretty ugly last year.

I rode at Mt. view today. A few wet spots but over all a decent track.

I am starting to like my 450. It works better for my weight then the 250. I think I am shifting too much.

09-22-2007 11:32 PM ET (US)
Hey KP, I shift my 450 way to much, so I know you are, that is one thing I was working on at Longview was trying to ride in 3rd gear only more.

Woodland should be good for practice.

Talk later.

Monitor MXDN race position from live feed link below. RV got holeshot and checked out. RC started in dead last and is presently in 9th:

MXDN first moto results:

In the first MXoN moto, MX1/MX2, RV had the inside gate pick and got the holeshot after a little tangle with McFarlane, then just checked out.

RC started in the center and fell within a couple of corners, then had to work his way up from dead last!

Cairoli fell on the big tabletop in the infield and left his bike - DNF.

RC caught back up to third and got close to Reed, but didn't catch him at the end.

The opening ceremonies were really cool, including a tribute to DeStefano, Magoo Chandler, Lechien, Sun, Hansen, and Emig. Then Everts and RC took a lap to welcome the crowd.

Kieth, you missed a great event. The Mt Scott guys and gals did an awesome job on the course. they used all the track in 3 different sections tied by excellent trails and grass sections. I had a blast for a guy who would rather not ride trails. My son borrowed a bike and rode very conservitave to 3rd on 250 Am. Chadwick got 2nd in the 50 class after riding half of the 40 class and pulling off with a flat. Kendall got 15th in the 40 class after a big high side on the last lap out in the field. I ended up 25th in the 40 class.

See ya at Glen Helen

You left at the right time,Boemer? totally modified his ex-new 450 on the double double double section,BAD ending to a pretty nice day at practice. Don't have any details on his condition but looking at the crash not the kind you look forward to,always sad to see a ridder go down after ,earlier ,talking, kidding, jokeing around with same guy! Also Lacey showed up on a ORANGE 250f,now if I can just chase those girls away,ha-ha! see ya later ,and THANKS AGAIN for going slow enough for me to try to keep up! JR

At this weeks meeting I was asked to look into jackets for the 35th anniversery race. I spoke to Brian at Action screen printing since he was the guy who did the last jackets a few years back. He'd be happy to do more jackets again, we just need to make a style choice and come up with a logo we'd like to use. He can screen print or Embroider a logo. Here's a link to his web site so everyone can look at styles. The pricing listed is list prices and we will get a nice discount from there. Hopefully we can choose at the next club meeting although we have plenty of time.

www.actionscreenprinting.com

The other choice would be something like an Enduro jacket from a MX gear company. I don't work in the Business any more, but still have excellent connections if that becomes a choice.

Oh well, guess I'll head for So Cal and Glen Helen early. Anyone know what tracks are open during the week for practice down there ? I'd like to get some practice before the last OT race.

the longview track was fun today.(the best i've seen it in years!) the new management is doing good things to help get things back in shape. its still only 20 bucks to practice all day, and they don't break it up into classes, because only 25 riders ever show up! it was fun watching bob b. burning hot laps with ron sun (chucks brother). good luck to all oregon old timers going to glen helen! be safe! Fast Forrest; i will see you in november for my private lessons!

I just got word from Ryan Leach that we can have Salem again on New Years day. More info on that later, but it looks like a date we can count on. There are some other dates available, but they are all on Sunday evenings, probably approx 5-9(10). So what I'd like is feedback on whether you guys want to do any of those days or not

Are they that booked up that there is no day times available. So much for Salem going away!
