At what age to we stop saying that a child is a child. At seventeen or near eighteen they are no longer children. They should be accountable for his or her actions. If this was a child or George or Frank, I can't imagne what the concerned parents group would have to say....but because it is a child or someone they support. Hands off. I hope that the school district is applying the same punishment to all other students in the district who have bad judgement.
