I would like to say thank you for making this what it is today. I was there at year 1 and it has been a trip I will enjoy for along time. I got pretty tore up with the changing of the patrol. Brought back memories of the days, but times change and the military change. I'm an OLE soldier from the NAM. You keep doing what you all do. Never forget the Vet. Great job and thank you all. See you next year.

I'll be bringing my extra chair for Vets at the perimeter of the WALL, will once again be handing out BANDAID FOR THE HEART medals to Vets and Gold Star Families, and will be welcoming home belatedly the Nam/Era/Korean War Vets via song.

hey all I just found this page... yes im a little slow arent I.. great time once again this year at the 20th reunion,,, look forward to many more.. I lost Tedett this year at the reunion... to all that dont know Tedett,, she is a teddy bear that i have had since 1990 that the Iceman ((Jim Lawrence )) won for me at a fair on OKC.. Tedett has had a very bad reputation at the reunion as most of you know.. I had her and Mr bear in a Bag getting ready to return them back to Jessie ((Mike Sinclairs daughter )) as we took turns babysitting the two.. I went to find her Sunday and she was no where to be found.. I hate to think but have a feeling that the bag got tossed in the dumpster..A very fine reward for Tedett and Mr bear.. well I guess i had better talk to Mr sinclair about that first . ha ha ha See you all next year Janet The One and Only Icelady

Mr. Delgado

Please understand, The KVVFR is not going away, it is evolving. The KVVFR is an awesome event, and because it has made such an impact on so many veterans it was decided by the founder and reunion staff that something had to be done to ensure this reunion did not fade away, as so many other reunions have, as you and other elder warriors get older. I was honored to be asked to lead this "transformation" of the reunion into the future and that is exactly what I plan to do. The new name was chosen by the founder and current staff so that all veterans would recognize that this great reunion was "their" reunion...a place to come to reunite with those they served with and to meet others to share their experiences with...regardless of where they served. The spirit and traditions of this reunion will not change...they will continue.

In the past the KVVFR has become a place of great healing and fellowship but unless veterans of more recent conflicts are pulled into the fold then eventually the KVVFR would cease to exsist. We the staff, will not let that happen.

We were all fully aware that there would be some Vietnam veterans that would not be pleased with this change but I implore you to to give it a chance and continue to attend future reunions. We as veterans are all brothers and although we may have walked different ground...the blood spilt is still the same American blood. The same issues effecting the Vietnam Veterans are still effecting younger veterans. The biggest difference is that because of the experiences of the Vietnam Vets, many have sworn that no other service member would ever be treated as they were when they returned home.

I am extremely proud to call the founder and staff of the KVVFR my brothers and second family...the reunion they created and ran made a huge impact on my well being upon my return home from Iraq.

I am open to suggestions that you and any others would like to make to make our reunion better than it already is...the future is what we make it.

Lance McCune Reunion President, 2008

Just wanted to applaud the staff and all the volunteers for the 20th KVVFR. It was fantastic. You guys outdid yourselves this year. Thank you for all of your hard work over the last 20 years. My family only found you about 5 years ago and I think that it is one of the best things that we do to come back together every year. We are all truly blessed and we appreciate everything that you do for all veterans every year. You will be missed. Good job all. :)

Dean,
I was there when the reunion was born. No one is taking anything away. The reach of the reunion will only get bigger as we help our younger brothers who have come behind us. It's up to us to insure that they are not treated the way we were. Hope to see you there this year. Welcome home brother!

To Dean Delgado:
Dean, remember how we (Vietnam Vets) felt 40 years ago? No body cared. We got together and started the Reunion and we helped each other to overcome. Now we have the chance to help our younger brother so they don't go through what we did. If we don't do this we're no better than those who forgot us. Because the name is changing mean nothing. once a soldier always a soldier. Once a brother always a brother. The Vietnam Vets will still be there. Hooha!!!
Dean Delgado  40

20 years ago I started to attend this Reunion.....
No one but Vietnam Veterans came,
No one but the Vietnam Veterans cared,
No one gave the Vietnam Veterans a thing,
But still we had a Reunion,
Now it will be used for everybody.
For me they take away the one place that
I could go and be at peace with-in a short drive from home.
Thanks for the Reunions, but now they don't belong to us
any more. Good luck and maybe some one will remember us, God Bless

To Whom It May Concern:
At it’s regularly scheduled meeting on September 17, 2006, The Kansas Vietnam Veterans & Family Reunion (KVVFR) voted unanimously to voice it’s complete and total opposition to the design, erection, construction, and or placement of the proposed “Vietnamese Soldiers Memorial” within the confines of the City park location commonly known as “Veterans Park” near 2nd and Greenway streets, Wichita, KS.
The Reunion members feel that the placement of this memorial on grounds previously consecrated by the City Council, and Park Board, and dedicated to the memory of the defenders of our nation, would set not only a serious precedent for future memorials within the park. It would also, create a serious division within our city between the Vietnamese and the Veteran communities.
The Reunion members would point out that the Veteran population of Wichita alone, is approximately 29,600 (Source: US Census Bureau 2005) or 11.4% of the city population over age 18 (Voting age), (not including spouses or other family members), while the total Vietnamese population is given as 6,859 (2.1% of total population of City of Wichita. Source: City of Wichita Demographics data). Vietnam-born veterans (ARVN) show 0.0% population by either source. We know there are Vietnam-born military veterans living in Wichita, and we do agree they should have a place to honor their war dead, it is our contention that any such monument, if erected, should be located in an appropriate location more convenient to the Vietnamese community.
The City of Wichita has announced plans to construct an “International Corridor” along 21st Street, which is scheduled to include a Vietnamese Cultural Center somewhere within that project. It is the contention and desire of The Kansas Vietnam Veterans & Family Reunion that the “Vietnamese Soldiers Memorial” would be better appreciated, maintained, and visited were it to be possibly used as a ‘focus point’ for the Vietnamese Cultural Center, and included in the Center’s landscaping plans before they are too far along.
Several years ago the Vietnamese community here in Wichita made application for a memorial to be built in Veterans Memorial Park. It was denied by the Wichita Park Board for the following reasons:

1. This park was built by U S Veterans for US Veterans
2. The Vietnamese who served in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam were not U S Veterans
3. Veterans Memorial Park is for U S Veterans of all Wars and Conflicts, not just Viet Nam.

As a result of the findings of the Park Board, the applicants were advised to go anywhere else but not to Veterans Memorial Park. The Park Board, during this time even drove the Vietnamese contingent around the City on a tax payer funded junket to find another location for said memorial. The Vietnamese refused all other offered locations.
Various U.S. Veterans groups have also been told, when applications were made, that there is no more room in the Park for Grenada, Panama, Bosnia, Desert Storm, and other more recent conflicts for there memorials.
Remembering the information given to veterans groups in the past by the Park Board, that they need never harbor any illusions that additional veterans monuments would ever be permitted within the Veterans Memorial Park, The Kansas Vietnam Veterans & Family Reunion can only wonder how there is now suddenly room for this memorial
Mr. Doug Kupper, The Park Board Director, reasoned in 2003 that there were already too many stones there, and that any more would spoil the aesthetic beauty of the three and one half acre site. His recommendation was that if anyone wanted another stone, they would have to find another place for it.
The Kansas Vietnam Veterans & Family Reunion proudly joins The Marine Corps League, Operation Ensign, and Veterans Memorial Park of Wichita, Inc. in opposing this project.
