rural crutch... there are so many displaced managers right now that you and your knee pad services are no longer needed. These managers know how the pm's like it so they've got a "leg" up on you.
Perhaps the union will commission you to organize the Parcheesi, Chutes and Ladders, Golf tournament (one beer must be consumed by the end of each hole) and junior auxiliary dance and bingo tourney at the annual convention.

i have had the rural carriers insurance for several years. it does pay well.
only problem i have had is that when i took out the disability insurance with the union, they took out 3 months premium that shouldn't have been deducted.
they agreed to refund it, but the agent, bill judge &ass. refused to REFUND MY MONEY. THEY ACTUALLY AGREED TO GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK, BUT NEVER WOULD DO IT. the health insurance has paid for more than i would think they would. i had major state of the art surgery, and they paid. i dond't know if bcbs would have.

For those of you serving AUx routes::::

Heres a warning you should heed!!!! Take a look around your office...if you have substandard routes....or lots of H or J routes...you better take a hard look at what would happen should they suddenly decide to reabsorb your Auxies!!!!!

What route is available for you to go back to if you have chosen the 6 day assignment? Are there openings on the matrix for you to take to make up some lost days? Just because they havent said they are lookin at the cost savings of keeping an Aux..DOES NOT mean they arent!!! Just cause your a SENIOR SUB...does not mean you will get your choice of things...if they take away the choice of the aux....ThINK ABOUT IT!!

Fall meeting coming up and so many questions! I cannot believe that many rurals don't show up for this and all you hear in the office is grieve that fight that and who do they think go to bat for their job...

I would like to know if anything has been worked out with the five-day delivery proposal?

SuperSub, Do you run an Aux? Does your office have a lot of routes? I was told Aux. carriers shouldn't have to worry unless you have low H Routes. Also, there are rules that have to be followed when rebuilding regular routes. There are limits as to how large they can be, etc... Aux. route carriers in small offices with K's and J's, but no H's most likely don't have anything to worry about.

Rural Mail Carrier - not true! About a year ago, my paranoid brain got to working, and I told our Aux route carrier that he might want to rethink the 6 day thing and become sub of record on the only subless route we had at that time. The carrier on that route was finally getting disgusted about not having a sub for over a year and it was looking like he might FINALLY take everyone's advice about putting a request in writing. Management promises, over and over again, were lies and he was FINALLY starting to see it. He (the auxie) didn't want to give up his 6th day and carry on that route. Worst route in the office, didn't want to have to follow someone else carrying his Aux, on and on with the reasons. Well, that carrier did put in a request and a rca was hired. And didn't quit like subs on that route usually did. And about 2 months ago they dissolved the Aux route and there was no vacancy for him to go to. He is now scrambling for work, working 2 part time jobs, because he is no longer working for the Post Office. We had only J and K routes at the time. I feel really bad for the guy but believed you could see this coming. He had been subbing for 8 years. Supersubs warning is dead-on. When they decide that Aux is going, it's gone. It's all about $$. I think people need to pay attention to this possibility. Heard they've kept him on the books and plan to as long as they can so if one of the rcas do leave he can get back in. Not sure if that's true or possible, but that's the rumor anyway.

Was the Aux carrier a RCA? if so then your whole statement is wrong. The junior RCA would be out of a job, not the more senior RCA who was on the Aux route.

I. Excess Substitute, RCA, and RCR Determination
In the event a rural route at an office is eliminated for any
reason, the determination of the excess employee shall
be made in the following manner:
1. If there is a temporary relief carrier (TRC) serving as
a leave replacement on a regular or auxiliary route
in the office, that assignment will be offered to the
substitute, RCA, or RCR whose route was eliminated.
2. If there are no such assignments available, and there
are RCRs in the office, the RCR with the shortest period
of continuous service in their position in the office
shall be terminated.
3. If there are no RCRs in the office, the substitute or the
RCA with the shortest period of continuous service in
their position in the office shall be terminated.

/m38691 ray..that might apply ....BUT!!! there is NO BUMPING...if the senior sub has an aux...and they eliminate it..they have to hold a position for that aux carrier...but most likely..it will be the H route...or nastiest route in the office...not a pretty thing to fall back to!

IF...and i say IF...they screwed up and hired a rca...when they only had a spot for a TRC (to cover this sort of thing...) whos gonna lose? the lesser sub assigned to a route? or the routeless aux sub..keep in mind...there IS NO BUMPING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!

/m38688 NOPE!!! not me on a aux!!! I wouldnt have taken one if it was served on a silver platter..cause i seen this coming..and...it dont matter your size of office...we only have one H here...THEY ARE Gonna get them all!!! its a money thing...think about it!!!

I dont even beleive that would apply in the case of an aux route being dismantled ray...it wouldnt create an excessed RCA (usually!)

Royal Mail Strike Called Off

The U.K. Communication Workers Union, which represents about 120,000 British postal workers, has called off strikes for Fri. Nov. 6th and Mon. Nov 9th as it reached an interim agreement with Royal Mail, according to the union.

The interim agreement will provide a period of calm for the CWU and Royal Mail to reach a full and final agreement, according to the CWU.

In addition, this agreement guarantees that modernization will be introduced with agreed job security and improved terms and conditions for postal workers, noted the union.

Details of the agreement are being released on Friday.

This agreement apparently ends the labor dispute that has dragged on for months as Royal Mail tries to modernize and cope with a more than $16 billion deficit. Click here for more http://directmag.com/postal/1023-postal-royalmail/index.html
