They will pay you for the A/L and tax the crap out of it........you lose the S/L unless you make regular, or work another aux. or work a vacant route over 90 days,( be in a leave earning status ) within 3 years........

A 2000 box curb side route is three hours past a 48K with just the boxes,no mail or anything else.

/m37459 Maybe at current standards, but with the new lower standards our great union will sign an MOU for it will only be a 40H route.

Who said anything about curbside boxes?

And try forthcoming MOUs that will deal with the "economic crisis" and the multi-billion dollar postal deficit.

And then wait till the current contract expires in 2010. If you think rurals are screwed now, the new contract for 2011 and beyond will further decimate standards. As per usual NRLCA contract negotiations.

if you have an aux going poof, contact your union steward and file a grievance. You never know, you might delay it.

Curbside is what we have here. I have heard of the cluster boxes but have only seen them as I was traveling through other cities.

"Greed" drives "power."
Truth be told "craft workers" have far better and brighter ideas on how to "sell" the USPS and keep it solvent than the idiots at the top.
The problem is there's no "reward" for advancing ideas and upper management would simply "take credit" for them anyways.
Truth be told almost ALL of the delivery units can "manage" themselves... NO postmasters or supervisors needed. A 204-B can make sure data is entered for payroll and the district pricks already have means of electronically keeping dibs on times and performances.
Get rid of the "fat" and you'll never raise the price of stamps again.

I say lets not CRY until we see it happen, Besides we have at least 2 years before a new contract is in place. A rejected one at the end of next year and a year to get one passed. Who knows what things will be like then, if you are worried about it, try some classed and a 2 year degree and a NEW JOB.

/m37464 That's quite a leap to "we will no longer have a job in 2 years."

I never said the driver was an idiot but I KNOW they do not sit in on the high level meetings where decisions are made that concern actual employees of the USPS.

For years the drivers have relished in passing out misleading information only to sit back and laugh when the gullible carriers pass it on.

Our OIC told us today we are to have a 2 week mail count this September. Does anyone know about it, or why? I already went from a K to a J in the last one.

"Besides we have at least 2 years before a new contract is in place."

That's what the United Auto Workers thought until the UAW began making "concessions" to the "Big 3" now the "Big 0." Think it can't happen to postal employees? Think again. Watch how fast the unions get in line for "emergency contract re-negotiations" when the USPS is given the green light for 5 day delivery by congress.

And what exactly is so great about our current contract anyway? But keep paying your union dues to lose income while the national officers salaries increase.

MI MAIL,
Can you give us more specifics?Like how many regular and auxiliary routes you have. What is the criteria the OIC is using to count the routes?

There is a provision to count ALL routes if the PO so chooses.

How about the criteria from the current contract:

(4) The Employer reserves the right to conduct
a national count of mail for all rural
routes during the last twelve (12) working
days in September of any year. The
Employer agrees to notify the Union at the
national level at least thirty (30) days in
advance of the commencement of the
count.
