To cook corn meal mush it only has to be cooked till it gets thick and poured into a loaf pan to get cold. It is then slice thin 1/4" and fried in butter or bacon grease. I used PAM on it but the grease is better. I make a diabetic syrup out of a can of diet vanilla cream soda (shasta) and thicken it with cornstarch. I like it. My daughter talked me into doing it the first time and now I am hooked. Better than the boughten brands.

Believe it or not, I have never fixed mush. I will see if I can find a recipe. Hang in there. As soon as I can get my head on straight I will look. Treva < replied-to message removed by QT >

Yes, I've been lurking, sorta. Seems like all I get done is trips to one or another doctor. My pituitary gland seems to be on the fritz somehow and we're working that out. This winter has been hard on all of us and I have blest us all with prayer as we move from need to need. Now to a cry for help !! Yesterday I had a sudden craving for a bowl of hot mush with milk and sugar.Twas a treat we had before bed and I can almost remember how,and see my mother making it, at night for fried mush in the morning. BUT- how did she know when it had finished cooking ? because the bubbles were breaking thick, the water was all absorbed, or by the change of color in the cornmeal ? I am speaking of yellow cornmeal here !! It is just a little thing but I need to know what tells you it is ready !!It simply is not in my memory !! And I WANT some !! Treva ??

Doe, I would recommend a Whirlpool dishwasher, one with the silverware basket in the door. That's what we have and putting the siverware in the door allows for much more space inside the dishwasher. I would also recommend a Dyson sweeper, especially for pet hair. They're expensive but worth every penny and now there's one available that turns on a "ball" instead of 4 wheels. Prayers and hugs to all, Pammie

Happy May Day! Pat- Glad to hear your hubby is coming home. Don't forget to look after that 24hr. care nurse living there. Everyone reminded me,(nagged, lol) me about how important that is. So take a few mins every now & then for you. My dear Mom always said if the lady of the house gets sick, the whole family goes to "L" in a handbasket. Have found over the years this is so true. Brendie-Prayers being sent your way. I've got a Panasonic/Inverter Turbo Defrost 1100W micro that I'm happy enough with. Wish you lived nearer, I'd give ya mine. I want a new one, maybe a convection/micro Genius type. I've seen those multi task micro convection ovens with a griddle on top & a toaster on the side, I'd like that for the r.v. even though we don't need it. But I do so Looove my kitchen toys. Anyone have a recommendation for built in dishwashers? And what's a good upright vacuum for us who have furbabies? Wanted a Rainbow, but they're so darn cumbersome. Rita- At this rate will be heading to Florida soon, snowed 3x here last week. Heavily. 32f this 7 a.m. & flurries are already again starting, had a hail of a hailstorm late yesterday afternoon.C'mon this is MAY. As La-La says-pffft. Treva- Continued prayers for you & yours. Linda Praying for your speedy recovery & return to us here at the boards. So TTFN, off to get the house tidied up the DUCTSUCKER GUY is coming this morning. (That's how his biz cards spell it.) Wouldn't wanna call for his services after I've had a drink or three. So I gotta load Rattles & Bear into the r.v. They're just starting to relax in the new digs. Don't want them shook up by all the noise & a stranger going in & out. They know "Herbie", our r.v. real well, they have a few hundred miles on them in him, so they will be content & safe in there. Hugs & Prayers to all, Doe

Pat, Merritt Island, FL. Sounds like my husband may be coming home from the hospital today or tomorrow. Sure hope so, it has been a long haul. It will be a struggle for awhile as he can't bend over or reach up, no stress on the upper body until the sternum, etc., heals. My biggest concern is going to be getting him in Black Bart. I have a two step stool that I am hoping will work, if not, I'll rent a PT Cruiser as I know he can get in and out of those with no trouble. That's what I traded for Bart. Been working my buns off keeping this house running and myself and cats fed. My dear neighbor bought me a garbage can on wheels so I wouldn't have to carry the can all the way out to the road. She has also given me an hours massage. People have been so kind and helpful, we have been overwhelmed. Weather has been beautiful here on the east coast of central FL. Ya'll get/stay well and stay warm and dry. You are also in my prayers, Pat, Merritt Island, FL

I'm here. Just a couple of icky days. We've been sawing, chopping, hauling and stacking firewood for camping. A guy Jer works with has a small (?) pasture he wants cleared. You just come in with a chain saw, chop and load up, no charge. Way cheeper than $4 for 5 pcs at the campground. Which brings me to another bummer. My folks and us were scheduled to go camping this weekend, and the weather isn't cooperating. Rain, snow (yet again) and cold temps. That's it!! I'm movin to Bora Bora, live in a grass skirt, and sip whatever beverage is available. I'm tired of this chit! I called about a min-pin dog that was advertised, but I was 1 caller too late. Gas was $3.59/gal here this morn when I went to mail the Iowa taxes and deliver my Share papers all over town.
Yes, Cheesy, I'd heard that dish at Perkin's but was afraid the steak would be "tuff"..lol As for that cookbook, check Barnes & Noble on the net. I found a couple books that I wanted that weren't in print anymore, and I got used ones..darn good price! A question!!! Do you kennel Finn when you go to work?? Just wondered.
I sent NJW a card today, included a few quarters for her "habit" ..lol Can't wait till she gets that one. It was weird explaining why the quarters were in the envelope to the postal lady...she laffed, and thought we sounded like a great group of friends!
Treva: my prayers are still coming for you and your family. We miss you.
Ok I've chimed in with my moaning and groaning. Time to change into my wood choppin clothes and head out. Hopefully this is the last load. I'm a tad bit stiff.. lol
love and hugs

I'm awake!! I took last night off from work. I had a doctor's appointment, in Plattsburgh, and of course, being there, in civilization, I couldn't resist going to the stores and out to brunch! I had brunch at Perkins and got the "Steakhouse Scramble"??? I think that is what it was called....anyway, if you like nice tender steak pieces with hash browns and flat scrambled eggs with a delicate cheese sauce...go for it! Not the best thing to eat, after a visit to the cardiologist, but ooooohhhhh it was sooo good! I wonder if Tony, in Michigan, knows about this stuff??? Patty Cakes - I gotta know where do I find a copy of "Best Damn Desserts From Bear Wallow to Goosebaum"?? I gotta have a copy. Today's recipe is the second one you have posted (I think) and the second one I have copied!! I hope everyone else is doing well. It is colder than a witch's something or other, here. I saw snowflakes yesterday, when I was driving to Plattsburgh! It is supposed to warm up, tomorrow. I hope so, as I bought plants yesterday! And my asparagus is here to be planted! Yeah, I turned the furnace back on!! Well, gotta go start cleaning the kitchen and pushing laundry through. Hope everyone is having a good day!

Checking in for a final time this weekend. Ready to start another week in our HOT office!! GRRRR!!! Just finished hemming 2 pairs of new slacks and cleaned all the winter clothes out of my closet. Laundry is also done so did accomplish something this afternoon.
Thanks Pam for Linda's address. I too will get a card in the mail to her and send some quarters! It will be so nice when she is home and back with us, won't it? I hope she knows how much she is missed!
Great issue today Maggie!
