Carol, I very seldom get mad. Thin skinned I may be but I try to give the other guy the benefit of the doubt as to why he or she is trying to hurt me. Now to low iron. Eat spinach, not lettuce. Include raisins in your salad. Liverworst on sandwiches helps. Vitmin C must be taken but not with the iron. I had to think IRON 24 hours a day for 2 months before I could donate my own blood the last time. I still am on the diet for low iron. I pray I will not have any more operations but who knows what to marrow will bring. Lap band would be nice. I am praying for you Carol. Hugs Shirley

Pat, Merritt Island, FL. LaLaLeasa, I've had a blood count of 7 -11.7 for nearly a year. Twice they have nearly put me on transfusions, but my body rallied to procrit injections. At first it was every 2 weeks, now it is once a month. They don't know why and I have been examined and tested from A to A. But, I have sure felt 100% better since the injections, no naps, lots of energy, better appetite, etc. Procrit is often given to cancer patients to increase the red blood count. Same for HIV patients. Keep the faith girl. Fortunately, I love greens, especially collards, but Joel, because of the cumadon, isn't supposed to have much vitamin K. I also love liver. Again, not for Joel. We manage - Jack Sprat could eat no fat, etc., but we have clean platters! Best wishes, Pat

Shirley - I was just pickin'....I knew you wouldn't be mad, expecially since I didn't get up to sit in a wet towel that night!!! Okay, ALL. This is the low down on my health...I didn't want to make this a big deal 'cause I am sure there are those out there who think all us old ladies do it talk about our ailments, but here is what is going on. I have been unusually tired for the past year or so. More "or so" than I like to admit. Then, I noticed I was getting short of breath on exertion. I finally go my doctor to pay attention to me, in February and I had a Cardiac Stress Test. Then, the results were sent to a cardiologist, along with me, the patient. It seems that I have a blocked anterior coronary artery. The cardiologist wants to do an angioplasty and possible stent placement. However, he here a bruit in my right carotid artery, so he sent me to the vascular surgeon, who some day will be taking care of the varicose veins in my left leg. The vascular surgeon after a couple of tests, sonogram and a MRA, found that my left carotid is completely blocked and my right carotid is partially blocked. Before he does my varicose veins, but after the angioplasty, he will clean out the right carotid artery. He won't operate on the left one, as he doesn't know what is above the blockage and the renewed blood flow could do something nasty, like move a clot and cause a stroke. I was all set to have the cardiac surgery during the first week in June, but I flunked the blood work. It seems that my Hemoglobin was 8.8 (severly anemic). I have been on iron for a month and it is up to 9.8, but I have been told by a pharmacist who knows her stuff, to get me to a hematologist to see what the problem is. She thinks the only way to get my hemoglobin up is with IV iron. (I have never heard of this.) Anyhow, I am now going to see if I can get an appointment with a hematologist, without a referral, and if not, I will call my internist. If he won't give me a referral, I will go to the cardiologist and see if he will do it. I would like to have the cardiac surgery, before I am old and gray, then the Carotid surgery and finally the varicose veins. Shirley - there is better surgery than a lap band. It is a sheath that is inserted via your esophagus, into the first 12" of your small intestine. It is not as distressing to the digestive system as the lap band AND the day after the surgery, your blood sugars return to normal and you can go off your diabetes meds. That is what I want!! Now, I have to go to bed. I haven't slept since last night, when I got up at 6 p.m. to go to work!!

Carol I am in Belmont NC, between Charlotte & Gastonia. I have been in this area now for 20 years exactly this month. Grew up in the Eastern part of the state though, Saint Pauls, which is south of Fayetteville NC. I remember on Dukes Mayonnaise when I lived in TX back in the 80's it was not sold there then, and when we would travel to NC I would stock up on it and Mellow Yellow sodas. Those were the days. I've tried other mayonnaise products, but theres nothing like Dukes, although their all quite expensive. Hope everyone has a great weekend...

With all the great info for Dukes mayo, I, like a woman, felt I must try it. I finally found it at our Publix store and it was only 2.89 for the quart jar. I'm not trying it until I return, but decided to get it when I saw it. I don't usually shop there but was glad I did that day! Carol, if you do get to Florida, we'll have to have a special day for a get together for all who can make it. I've seen several with Florida addresses and wish we could meet. I know we are all busy with whatever our priorities are each day, but to meet e-friends is special to me! I'll miss these daily messages for the next few weeks, but will be back at the end of the month. Have to get to Maine for some of those great lobsters!!

* * * HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO: RUSTY IN FLORIDA ... AND ... JESSICA IN CORFU, GREECE Both of these lovely ladies have been a2z'ers for many, many years. I've had the pleasure of meeting Rusty, personally, a couple of times. What a doll! And Jessica, while we've not met face-to-face, is like the girl next door, always helpful and thoughtful. As luck would have it, I got the theme issue all ready and... no go. There is some problem with Zinester, saying I must contact them. There's a remote possibility we've grown in size and I need to pay more. Seems to me they could just tell me that - but - I'll try again tomorrow when they open. The other companies that provide various services for me have just about all gone up in price and sent me an explanation and invoice. Go figure that the one that stands between the reader and me would not. In the meantime, here is the link to the issue on my web site, where it is available: http://www.a2zrecipes.net/07062008.htmlI am attending a school and will be out of town from Sunday 7-13 through Wednesday 7-15. Those are both posting days so I will spend the majority of today getting issues lined out for you. Even if Zinester doesnt fix the problem, theyll be available on my web site. It is so good to have Lisa visit with us. And it was good to hear from Brenda (I had to bang some pans for her, ha-ha). I had a nice, long chat with NJWLinda and she should be on here soon. I know shes been sorely missed, but she really misses us, too! Dear Carol, we are praying for you. Lets get you all fixed up so we can plan our NEXT a2z trip, okay? Well have to touch base with former attendees and get a time and place that will allow for the most attendance (doesnt Florida look tempting?!?!?). Have a great day. Ill check back in later. Hugs to all, Maggie * * *

Carol in NNY, the procrit shots aren't as bad as some I've had and well worth it for me. They are pretty expensive, but so far, insurance has paid. My hematologist didn't want me on iron as my liver stores it rather than uses it. I wasn't kidding when I said they checked me out from A to A. My blood count was so low, they insisted I must be bleeding somewhere, but nothing tuned up despite MRI, endoscopy, colonoscopy, all kinds of scans. It was comforting to learn I have a good brain and a good heart - lol! I'll include you in my prayers that they get back in shape. Pat, Merritt Island, FL

Happy Birthday to Rusty and Jessica!!! Hope you have many, many more!! Yes, Pat and Rusty...when I finally get to sunny Fla (I hope this winter) we will have a mini-A2Z get together!! My sister lives in Nokomis, but I know how to drive!!! $2.89 for a quart of any kind of Mayo is pretty decent. Hellman's is on "sale" here in town for $4.29!!! I think I am going to decrease my mayo use a lot, this summer....only on tomato sandwiches!! Bama/Brendie - We have missed you, Margaret!! You had better re-subscribe, so you can keep up with our antics, here!! Oh, sequel to last night's story....When my hemoglobin went up to 9.8, I wasn't as short of breath, any more! Makes it more fun to do my job, as the walking up inclines doesn't bother me anymore!! Maggie - I will get my hemoglobin up and my surgical problems taken care of....AND, we will meet again!! Now, I need to answer a couple of emails and go out to play. I have some more planting to do, and a tree to dig up!! I bought a new spruce tree, today, which will go in the place of the one that died. The person who sold the tree to me will bring it and plant it!! Hopefully, my sister won't realize it is a different tree, as it was a gift from her. It is 80° in sunny downtown TL, this afternooon. Quite a change from the heavy fog and dew we had at 7 a.m. today!! That is the Adirondacks for you!! Have a beautiful day, everyone!
