If I recall correctly it starts off with Wonder Woman leading a band of women to kill all the men in their vicinity (who were, admittedly, apparently all bad men), then Superman trying to argue that she had done a bad thing and basically failing utterly to make a case that killing people is bad.

It then went downhill.

My memory of it may not be perfect, I've been trying to scrub as much of it as possible out of my skull. The plot, the concept, the basic morals (that people only really work together when their survival is threatened and that it's a good thing to kill in times of war were the two basic moral messages as I recall), even the *artwork* was bad - it was like they took the old style comics blockiness and four-color system and then removed the parts that were any good.

OK, I'm acting like a critic now, and should probably shut up. :)

What is it with comics these days? It's like the whole industry is being run by the creepy guy you avoid making eye contact with.

I agree.

How bad could they be?

Careful... that's the sort of question where you're never going to like the answer.

Whoa, they're taking on McCarthyism? How edgy!

You've piqued my interest.

How bad could they be?

Abner: You know, I wondered about that. Thanks for the warning, I'll give them a wide berth.

Aw, don't make fun of the Narutards. We were like that once.

Jon A.

I remember seeing MD Geist back in the day and liking it. What can I say, it was the first anime from the Extra Chromosome School of Manly Entertainment that I had seen...

My big problem was never with Evangelion itself, but with its fans. Not the nuanced and articulate fans (I'm thinking of you, Toanstation) who would engage in a proper discussion of the show's merits. No, I'm talking about the youngish, obnoxious, "OMGEVAISTHEBESTANIMEEVAR!!!!!1!!1one!!!" fans. You've seen them. You've heard them. Even hard drugs won't make the memory of them go away.

Or am I talking about the fans of Bleach or Naruto? :)

Seriously, though... I kind of liked Eva, because I can see what they were trying to do. I would love to have seen a full run of the show the way it was originally envisioned, rather than what they had to produce when the money ran short. Ah well...

There's a cold going around my office, and I'm fighting it off. So far. Bleah.

Speaking of bleah, I watched the Justice League New Frontier cartoon off of Netflix's instant download service. It was pretty terrible. They were going for kind of a retro-fifties thing, but their approach was to make it as cynical as possible, while at the same time making very little sense. They try to be "sophisticated" by including government conspiracies and half-assed jabs at McCarthyism, but then the big bad ends up being a sentient floating island that shoots out energy beams and dinosaurs at people. Yes, you read that correctly, it shoots out dinosaurs. Maybe at some future gathering we can mock it properly.

I enjoyed Dual well enough as the lightweight Geneon harem show it was, though I certainly feel no compulsion to actually own it.

RahXephon I really liked.

I guess the third show in the Eva-alike trifecta is Gasaraki, but I bounced hard off that one the last time I tried to watch it.

XBox Live? I don't even have an XBox. PS3 60 GB here.

Though, with Sony's latest brilliant plan of "no backwards compatibility any more ever," I suspect I'll be the only PS3 owner in my circle of friends for some time. :~(

I wanted to say "Nuanced Generalization", but it dinna fit in box.

I do know that Toanstation is a fan, though, so I don't want to harsh on it over much. It certainly came in out of left field and shook things up, and that is worth something in and of itself.

Jon A.

Maybe in a hundred years, Eva will be the anime that school kids complain about having to watch in literature class...

I actually liked Dual. Though to be honest the ending was a cop-out.

In other news I have picked up the Mercenaries 2 pre-order. The girl at Gamestop was all "well, we don't have enough of the pre-order goodies, so some people might get the artbook instead of the skullcap" and I was all "omg give me the artbook" because I love those. But it's not really an artbook, more of an advertising circular, and it gets so lathered up about how X-TREEM the game is that it actually made me want to play it a little less. :-/

Oh well. It's not like it cost me anything, anyway. Hey Jon, we should play the game co-op if you have Xbox Live.

I didn't follow the link, I thought it was a video, and I don't do that at work.

... Yeah, that would have been a better ending. Or see RahXephon, or heck, even Dual!
