After Messy Marv, Jacka and San Quinn I most likely am (WAS) next in line as a money earner in the Bay strictly from the industry. Look I used to get $8 a Cd from my Distributors and Record Stores. I would move about 5,000 units so that is $40,000 per cd released. I would drop like 2 or 3 cd's per year. Now because "YOU" the fans don't buy as many cd's and download the music I make $5 a Cd from my Distributors and Records Stores. I move about 2,000 units so that is $10,000 per cd released and because I bring in way less money I can only release 1 cd per year because I don't have the Money Reserves in the bank to put into Recording, Mixing, Mastering, Graphics, Manufacturing, and Promotions of 2 or 3 cd's per year.
Those rap artists that you see riding around town flashing are faking or ain't getting their money from this here rap game. The money just isn't in it anymore. I went from 2 houses, buying my girl a car, buying my mother a car, owning the best quality American Pit Bulls in this entire country to making $10,000 per cd.
I can somewhat supplement my income with Live Shows but as a Single Father I don't get those weekends free to do as many Live Shows as I need to even cover Child Support let alone complete living expenses.
I have Merchandising that brings in a little revenue but Live Shows is where you get most of the fans who purchase Merchandising. And this internet is filled with so many "I WANNA BE A RAPPER" types that real Recording Artsits can even get lost in the shuffle of promoting their projects and Merchandising.
There are rap artists that are going to read this and be pissed off. They want you to believe they got the Benz from rapping, they want you to believe they got the Condo from rapping, they want you to believe that they got the Rolex Watch from rapping, but I AM GOING TO KEEP IT REAL WITH YOU-THEY DIDN'T. Maybe from their craiglist ladies of the night or their 215 scripts, but not rapping.
Let them keep telling you that. I AM KEEPING IT REAL WITH YOU. I NEED YOU TO PURCHASE MY CDS. I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT.
