Hafl truths: MKIA :"Why do you think they closed many of the airmail facilities and BMEU's--that's so they can contract out the parcel processing making it non postal jobs." My obsevation: So far MKIA hasn't backed up her uneducated guess with any evident other than cut and paste of outdated and irrelevance "water testing" from USPS that has nothing to do with outsourcing parcel processing. MKIA :"It's the government that pays off OSHA to turn their cheeks and look the other way," My obsevation: one word "ludicrous!" MKIA : "And they try to pay off NIOSH too, but thankfully NIOSH doesn't always take the bait." My obsevation: MKIA doesn't know that NIOSH is a federal agency responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness.Unlike OSHA,NIOSH has no authority to enforce rules or standards. So why would goverment(?) try to "pay off" a dog that has no teeth? MKIA regarding Postal Employees breaks "...It depends upon the state you live in and their labor laws..." My obsevation: see /m2288And that's my poo,it stinks but it's the facts : poo stinks!

Yes most of us all know that FLSA does not have any real laws governing lunches and breaks, but these are negotiated with the employers. But our breaks and lunches were years back considered a safety issue and when they were challenged by the Safety and Health Act--any arbitrator ruled in favor of the employee, thus lunches and breaks were established at the P.O. And they basically follow the state labor laws.
Yes, back in the day it was in black and white for the LSMers, but it is practiced for any machine operator as a safety issue. If you work 8 hours and you don't take a lunch you can bet you'll be docked for one. Try to punch out in 8 hours versus 8 and 1/2 and see what your boss will say to you.
Go ahead Muslim fling your poo that's what you do best, but get it right, don't twist words that I say. People can read even if you apparently need glasses. Grow up already!!!

Beany: The only postal machine for which breaks were actually defined in black and white was the old MPLSM. The handbook said you got a break after every two hours on the machine. Still didn't help much, damned near every old LSMer has had carpal or some other CTD.

/m2288 is a faked Proud Muslim, the real Proud Muslim would comment upon /m2287 as follow: Miss Know It All (MKIA) aka Beany Baby once again gets her foot stuck in her mouth. Bashing Postal Managers base on her ignorant of laws that governs Postal Employees.I couldn't care less if bashing Postal Managers is her sport but spreading rumors and half truths is proving once again her credibility is shot.

Beany Baby /m2287 -- as federal employees we are not covered by state labor laws. There are no federal regulations regarding lunches. The only protections we have are contracts and manuals.

Kitty and others: It depends upon the state you live in and their labor laws--the state labor law dictates how long one can work before they HAVE to have a break. Most states say a break must be given after 6 hours. It was negotiated by the union that it's a postal safety issue with machine operators that they have a break after 2 hours and 20 minutes due to fatigue. Many postal offices unfortunately do not consider casing mail or standing at a window a fatigue safety issue (which I disagree with) thus they take it to the limit saying break after 6 hours.
These idiots making up these rules should have to stand in place for 6 hours, deal with the public/whatever and see how long they take before they start whinning for a break. Bet they couldn't do it, but they have the audacity to enforce it anyway.
It's the government that pays off OSHA to turn their cheeks and look the other way, that's why it's not run like the private sector allowing breaks every 2 hours. And they try to pay off NIOSH too, but thankfully NIOSH doesn't always take the bait.
