That’s a great point to bring up. There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don’t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game if you are commenting as an individual.hsbc credit card | visa credit card

usmc1982, I think some of the information you have been given has been misconstrued. As a vet, you can use your time in service that is countable to boost up your leave gained each year. This can go up to 26 days, the maximum. The 10 point part isn't needed for this, just that you are a vet and your service dates coincide with the accepted dates the post office wants.

 If you look at this link

http://www.usps.com/cpim/ftp/manuals/elm/h...02.html#vnameref_21

you can read a vast amount of information regarding the annual leave program. Please keep in mind, if you retired from the military, then only a small portion of your time in service will count toward leave accrual in the post office. This is also covered in this link. I hope this helps to clear some stuff up.

I have just started a PTR in Kansas City,Mo. I read somewhere that if I am a 10 point veteran preference with credible service that I would recieve 20 days annual leave rather than the 13 for employees with less than 3 years with the USPS. Can someone clarify this for me or point me in the right direction for the correct answer. Thank you SEMPER FI!!!

Can a postmaster take your voice of employee (VOE) survey and do anything that they wish with it. The voice of employee survey is first class mail. Some one please help me with one.

I forgot to add that once he is on the register, he will then need t wait until there is an opening. The USPS will contact people from the register in exam score/vet pref order until they fill the position. He may get hired soon or it could be years. I didn't want it to sound bad but I wanted to be honest about the time frame.

Hi,
 I did the 21yr Navy thing too and got hired in Apr2006 at USPS. Please pass on to your brother thanks for all the great work.
 The way to get hired by the USPS "off the street" is to get on the hiring register. For other than maintenance positions, this requires taking and passing an exam. For maintenance positions, there are 3 steps;

1. Take and pass the exam for the position he is interested in.
2. Fill out and return a booklet of KSA's(Knowledge/Skills/Abilities).
3. Attend an interview to go over any questions and see if you in fact are hireable for various reasons.

 Once these steps are complete, he will be placed on the hiring register for the geographic location where he took the exam.

 To get an exam, there are 2 ways for him to do it. Go to https://uspsapps.hr-services.org/ and select the state he is interested in and apply for the exam. I went there just before writing this, and there is a maintenance mechanic exam being offered in Daytona. He should apply for that quick since the announcement closes 9/30/07. This would mean he would be taking a test some time(this is governmental time ranging from apprx 2 weeks to 3 months....as a guess) after this close out date. The test would be given in the general goegraphic are where the results will be affected. So if he could apply for the exam now, then find away to take the test in Daytona, in a month or two while he's active, he would be ahead of the game.
 Another way to get an exam other than when it is being offered to the general public is to contact the post office in the area where he wants a position. He can sign up for any test he wants during the first 90 days of becoming a vet. I was later told it was the first 180 days, but I'm not sure its that long. He must be a vet to sign up for a test/tests this way so he can't do it while on terminal leave.

 The way vet preference works, if hes a vet, he will get 5 points added to his PASSING test exam. If he's a disabled vet, he will get 10 points. If he's disabled with 30 percent or more disability, he will be get 10 points, but also be placed in a special category that requires his record to be considered first before anyone elses, regardless of test score(as long as he passd before the 10 points were added.)

 Well good luck and I hope this helps.

Hello. I have a little brother that is getting out of the Navy in 5 months, he will then have 20 years. He would like to get a job at the U.S. Postal Service. He wants to be in the Maintenance Craft. He is now stationed in New Orleans, and would like to get hired by the USPS in Florida, Daytona Beach if possible. Does it matter how much disability he gets to get a veteran's preference to be hired quickly? If anyone can help it is greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance and have a great weekend.
