Hello John Risher, Thank you for posting. Your memory is far better than mine. I was "oil king" on ship/after fireroom BT & had to report to the captain every hour with fuel inventory before reaching Manchester. I remember being afraid we would run out of fuel before docking. I saw nearly four complete crews come & go while I served between 1967-1971 on the Twining. I also remember the fog being so thick you couldn't see the sea over the side of the ship between Washington State & San francisco.
I've been trying to do some research on the Twining. There are some things that you may be able to help me with. Would you know if we ever trained with the Thomas for project SHAD(bio-weapons), training about 50 miles off the coast of San Francisco?
Also, the Twining went to the Long Beach naval ship yard for some type of repairs for around 3 months between 1969 & 1971. Would you remember what for?
One other question. Did the Twining get dispatched to south of San diego for project shad training?
Thank you for any help.
