Hi Lofty,

These people are not buying anything, they are collecting bank details. The more difficult it is for them to get what they want, the less chance there is of them hanging around to get them. Offering to telephone a landline or post to their door is a simple, added precaution. Not fool-proof, just an extra step they don't usually anticipate. If they refuse or disappear at that point, then no harm done, invoice 3 times then reportas NPB, leaving negative feedback. Just as an example, one telephone number I was given was for WISEMAN DAIRIES HEAD OFFICE, and they had never heard of the person concerned. When I eventually contacted eBid directly and requested a contact number, the so-called buyer had managed to register using only a mobile number.

Hi Nykmedia, I understand your point about possibly sending the BACS details by post, but would either you or the seller be prepared to pay the £5+ to ensure safe delivery?

Recorded post is a farce as the items are just dumped in the ordinary mail, until it reaches the destination sorting office. When if you are lucky it will be retrieved and a signature obtained. The only secure means of delivery via Royal Mail is Special Delivery, where from what my sources tell me each person that handles the item has to sign for it, and the SD items are kept behind locked doors.

How would you go about verifying an address? For the suspect buyer we shared I checked out the address on the Royal Mail address finder; it came up as genuine. The only other way I can think of is to check the electoral register, but this isn't fool-proof. We have all heard of the people who went awol when the poll-tax was around, plus forgein nationals don't have to register.

I, for one, would recommend removing BACS options unless you are prepared to post the invoice with bank details to a traceable address. I can't see the significance of comparing acceptance of BACS payments and paying for something with a cheque. For starters, in order to pay by cheque, you need the correct address to guarantee it gets there by post. The scammers on eBid are probably using fake details all the way through their joining applications and mobile numbers so they cannot be traced. As far as I am concerned, the Internet is awash with scammers and the more places like eBay flush them out, the more they will be seeking alternative sites to infest! Nobody knows the extent of this scam as it has been around for some time, but 10 people confirmed as having been caught out by this over the past 48 hours isn't to be sneezed at - who is next? That's my worry.

I also would like to know the answer to Val's question. The amount of information given out on a cheque is greater than that for a direct debit. So if a d/d can be made up from that information, how are people supposed to make payments? Also is this Police advice or from eBid or the Banks? If it is from the Banks I would view it with great suspicion, as they are only interested in shifting the blame from their dodgy/non-existant security systems.

Update on Scam Alert

The following list includes all of the financial institutions that have been used for the setting up fraudulent policies -

Allianz
B Mid
Cornhill
eSure
Halifax
Liverpool Vic
Tesco Finance
Zurich

I must repeat the previous warnings - if you sell online and offer BACS/Bank Transfer, please check out authenticity of buyer details prior to divulging payment information. If you have already arranged for payment to be made direct to your bank over the past 8 months, please request a full list of direct debits on whichever account you use for processing incoming payments.

It is also adviseable to check your credit file, as it has now come to light that at least one victim of the fraud has had a credit card taken out in their name.

Feel free to post any relevant information on these newsboards, which can be found at www.cyberdosh.co.uk Please do NOT respond by email.
All irrelevant or inappropriate posts will be removed.

I've just been informed that 'harvesting' information is also a technical term, so my apologies for using the word in the traditional sense to mean 'gathering'.

I want to clarify a couple of points. When selling items online, the buyer/winning bidder receives the seller's contact details - name, address etc - in order to send payment. Many websites display these details openly.

If a buyer / winning bidder then offers to pay via bank transfer, those bank details are requested from the seller. As soon as these are provided, the buyer / winning bidder has enough information to set up a direct debit on that account (if it allows debits to be made). Banks and building societies do not check for signatures on mandates, these can be set up remotely and electronically.

I am sorry that some find the above facts disturbing, to say the least, but there is absolutely no getting away from the fact that this scam is going on right now and that certain sites in particular are, WITHOUT DOUBT, being targetted.

The following is an updated list of company names that could show up as fraudulent direct debits:

Allianz
B Mid
Cornhill
eSure
Halifax
Liverpool Vic
Zurich

You'll notice these are all insurance companies.

Please do not respond to these messages via email. If you wish to post, please visit the site at www.cyberdosh.co.uk and click on the messageboards link. You can also remove your subscribed email address via this method should you choose to stop receiving the news updates directly via email.

With regards to the current scam, all who have been affected recommend removing BACS for one single reason - NPB! As soon as an auction ends, the buyer receives email confirmation of their winning bid, which includes you name and address. They then request to make payment via bank transfer before disappearing as a Non-Paying-Bidder. Within a few weeks, any number of automated mandates can be set up on accounts using ONLY the information provided via the unpaid auction. eBid is NOT the only website affected, it IS, without doubt, one of the ones being targetted by the culprit/s.

Who is recommending asking people to remove BACS from their listings?
It's a bit unfair to list ebid as having 'been infiltrated' by scammers. Using bank transfer is just as safe as handing someone a cheque as the details provided are exactly the same. This should not be enough information to set up a DD. The problem here is with the bank- not ebid.

Thanks for this list. Not having used eBid I'm hopefully ok, but am still checking!

SCAM RESEARCH UPDATE

With regards to the current scam of harvesting details for the purposes of setting up direct debits, eBid online auctions have been positively identified as one of the sites being infiltrated.

If you offer goods for sale via eBid, we recommend that you remove any option to accept payment via BACS or Bank Transfer. If you have recently sold uny items then found yourself with a non paying bidder who offered to pay by this method, please get in contact, and check your accounts for any of the following unauthorised debits:

Allianz
B Mid
Cornhill
eSure
Halifax
Zurich

We will add to the above list as the investigation progresses. We also recommend that any future acceptance of BACS payments should be authorised by a fully checkable source such as posting the details to the address provided by the site at time of purchase. AS SOON AS AN AUCTION ENDS, THE BUYER IS AUTOMATICALLY SENT THE SELLER'S DETAILS. If the buyer then chooses not to pay, they already have your details and chances are, theirs are false.

Cyberdosh members can email me directly concerning this on-going investigation.

SCAM ALERT

PLEASE CHECK YOUR ACCOUNTS FOR FRAUDULENT DIRECT DEBITS AND STANDING ORDERS!

Following some 'unusual transactions' that were in the process of taking place through my business bank account, I thought I would like to write a word of warning to all. This has been posted in various forums.

I check my accounts online often but I don't always check EVERYTHING, so I managed to miss the fact that someone had fraudulently set up two direct debits on MY business account. I was completely unaware of this until Zurich Insurance debited almost £60 for a car insurance policy. I do not own a car! I checked my DDs and SOs and spotted a second direct debit set up for Halifax, the reference number coinciding with their MORtgage department (MOR/reference numbers). I do not own a house! I have no direct debits paid from my business account.

The above took place within the past month and the companies concerned have said that these details were set up via the correct mandates and they are in my name and my address. The only bit that was wrong was the fact they were in my personal name and they had marital status wrong, plus the account has a trading name that had been omitted. However, the bank proceeded and allowed the direct debits to be paid! All of this is currently part of a fraud investigation and I had considered the posibility of banking error via HBOS, who had processed the debits and the missing cash was refunded immediately on reporting the fraud. I've left it in the hands of the police & relevant fraud departments. HOWEVER... the exact same thing has just happened to someone else who is with a completely different bank (Nat West) and this time the direct debits were set up for Zurich Insurance (they got £90+), Halifax mortgage insurance (MOR/reference) and Cornhill insurance (not sure what for yet). Again, the fraudulently claimed debits have been instantly cancelled and refunded and we are now comparing notes on who, in common, has our business banking details. OP has also passed all the info to the relevant fraud investigations and police.
So far we can find only two things in common with our business banking and that's PayPal business accounts, which insist you provide these details for their recently updated systems, and the Inland Revenue.

PLEASE - could anyone reading this check your bank accounts for direct debits and make sure any that you did not authorise or that have supposed to have expired get cancelled and deleted from your accounts.

If anyone spots any unusual debits set up for Halifax, Zurich or Cornhill, then I would really appreciate hearing from you, especially if it's a business account. Only by comparing notes have we any chance of finding a proper common denominator. The police HAVE traced the car that I am supposedly insuring - it has no current registered keeper and is, at present, in trade! Zurich are adamant that I should have received policy documents, as are Halifax for my alleged mortgage insurance; none have ever arrived.

This could be something or it could be nothing, but it is looking a little more suspicious since the police actually traced 'my' Ford Ka! I can't even work out WHY someone would want to set up direct debits in the first place or how they could possibly benefit from them UNLESS they are working on commission for the insurance companies. I'm now off to find out if Zurich, Halifax or Cornhill offer cashback incentives or affiliate memberships as this is the ONLY thing I could think of that could benefit risking falsifying new policies!

Anyone with any information relating to the above or anything similar, please post so everyone can be made more fully aware of what is going on. Someone, somewhere has to be making money out of this crackpot scheme somehow and I, for one, won't rest easy until the culprit is found.

Wise with Your Money

Just a quick alert to one of the current scams. The following is NOT a genuine email, it is a scam. For anyone still worried about Internet security, NEVER click a link in an email that requests you log in details for anything, that way you cannot be caught out as easily. Likewise, never use the links in the emails to go to the sites, ALWAYS key in the proper www. address yourself. The following appears to be hosted by a Mexican based 'company'.

Shopperdisc / Shopperdiscount / £10 voucher / savings 'scam's

This is just a quick note of warning regarding some unscrupulous practices going on via websites whose owners (allegedly) may not even be aware of what's happening. I've listed some of those we have heard of or read about so far....

Sites such as:
Interflora
Easyjet
Vistprint
Allposters
GobyCoach
National Express
CTShirts (Charles Tyrwhitt)
ElectricShopping
Millets

If you have used any of the above sites and been offered future discounts or something like a £10 discount voucher - DO NOT ACCEPT without reading all the small print. If you already have, then check your credit / debit card statements to ensure you have not inadvertently signed up for a monthly shopping reward membership, charged mot. The company responsible have posted contact details on the Money Saving Expert forums at the following link: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpo...225743&postcount=22

If you spot any other websites offering similar deals that result in your debit or credit card being charged then please consider posting the details here or on MSE so others are made aware. This is yet another reason for having direct access to your banking details - so you can use them to make sure everything is in order with your spending and statements.

Hi M,

I don't mind reading the messages here in the forum, but it's a bit confusing when the emails allow posters to respond via the email reply button.

(To anyone else reading this, you can post straight onto this board by replying to the email copies if you have opted to receive them.)

Once again, Cyberdosh is frequenting the Gala Bingo site in a bid to grab some of those free tickets that are available every Thursday. If anyone wants to join us, we are usually in the Country Club, hiding out in the stables. No free wins to date but I can confirm that the £30 cashback tracked fine for the Mecca sign up Topcashback. Join me as a buddy on there, too, if you like. http://www.TopCashBack.co.uk/Cyberdosh/ref/index.htm and the recent winnings have been paid out from Jackpotjoy.

Good luck to everyone who is taking part in the free bingo, good luck to all taking part in this week's YDC54 charity event on eBid and good luck to anyone who is taking advantage of the 5p listing day on eBay today. Congratulations to anyone who received their free vouchers from eBay for taking part in the 'eBay Extra' promotion.

Anyone interested in a nice new George Foreman grill? This link will take you to a £10 no reserve auction that starts tonight at 6pm http://uk.three.ebid.net/perl/auction.cgi?...-11700-0&mo=auction I may bid on this myself so fingers on the buttons for some May madness in the eBid online auctions.

Rednosty, what a delightful surprise to find your post here! Congratulations on braving the virtual elements to venture into our virtual 'gossip-shop'. I hope the househunting is going well and will take this opportunity to point out some major differences between the rural, the not so rural and the downright remote. I hope it helps in your choice of relocation and Wigtown, no doubt, would welcome you. Do you like books?

In response to Red's ill-informed comment regarding living on £4,000

I suspect you have not read any of the details pertaining to this particular challenge. The £4000 is for cost of living and bears absolutely no reflection on cost of housing. I see no relevance in comparing the cost of living in a rural (or remote) community to that of city based. Contrary to your (astounding) belief, cost of living can be much higher in rural communities and the more remote, the more expensive IF you expect to enjoy the same lifestyle as a cityslicker.

For a start, there are no major chain stores, hypermarkets or, indeed, clothing stores. There are no train stations, taxi ranks, leisure facilities, cinemas, hot food takeaways or discounted fuel stations attached to well known supermarkets. Indeed, you usually find a sub-branch of either Co-op or Spar (only one of those, no choosing between the two) and there aren't usually dentists, specialists of any kind, Bingo halls, bookies, the list can go on and on the further off the beaten track you go. And let's not forget about emergency services - not exactly 2 minutes call out in the event of a call-out and the nearest general hospital may be miles away (think of the cost of keeping regular appointments, check-ups etc). So, need I go any further?

Please read the appropriate details and then feel free to comment once you are aware of what this challenge involves. I'm a little disappointed that a Cyberdosh member hasn't read any of the details pertaining to such.

You might like to try reading the MSE thread, which is where 140 individuals are attempting said challenge from locations throughout the UK. I will email you the link :)

PS: Good luck with your participation in the SAS Elite Challenge

PPS: To all other readers of this newsboard, Rednosty can be found at http://www.rednostys.co.uk

PPPS: Have you compared the price of Council Tax between, say, Westminster and Wigtown? As an example, Wigtown Band C - approx £1200, Westminster Band C - approx £585 SHOCKING!!

Bit unfair this 4000 challenge as someone living in Wigtown might do it but someone living in London has no chance

CYBERDOSH UPDATES

Not sure exactly how many of you are playing the 'cashback' game or, indeed, how many of you are following the Cyberdosh 'Living on £4000' challenge, so this is an update to let you know how things are going here. Welcome to any new readers and I hope you will all find something of interest within the realms of Cyberdosh.

Following on from the cashback discussion: Greasypalm is continuing to perform well, with £31 accrued, so far, for our April payment. Hopefully, this should increase by at least another £40 when the other 'cashbacks' get credited. I spent £20 signing up for the Paddy Power and BetFair offers, which netted a further £20 of free bets plus a total of £40 cashback. Overall, that doubled my money plus a further £35 left for bets. (£15 of that was from winnings.) We are continuing with the price checks and comparisons on a daily basis and will bring you news of any outstanding offers we spot.

Freefivers is quite slow in comparison, mainly because we've already signed up for most of the free cashback elsewhere. However, when it's Cyberdosh, every penny counts, so it's fairly easy to accrue about 65p per week just clicking through a few of the ads. Timesonline health checker has credited 70p, Anglian credited £1.50 and the catalogue-link credited 50p, so that was £3 for a few minutes work, bringing my total to just over £10 - long way to go to make it into the 'minimum payments' threshold, so can't count this chicken before it hatches.

I managed £8.67 so far credited to Topcashback, mainly because I wanted items 'Woolies' had on special offer. Rather than go to the shop, I ordered online via through Topcashback and they credited the £5+ cashback before my order had arrived! Can't complain about that but can't count on it yet either.

It remains to be seen if or how quickly these cashback sites actually pay out and, as this is the first year of our Cyberdosh spare cash generating research, we can only judge by experience. I can certainly vouch for most of the free sim card offers, as I now have enough sim cards for the entire extended family AND got credited the cashback for completing the application forms to receive the freebies in the first place.

On the subject of FREE STUFF - 'FREE ENTRY' vouchers to be used by 31st August 2008 from Woolworths. I'd call them more of a 'BOGOF', as it's only free entry for one when another pays full price, but it's always a saving if you are likely to be heading for Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Legoland, Chessingtons, SeaLife, The Dungeons etc. The pack they sent me also has a 50% off voucher for rooms at Alton Towers and the Holiday Inn at London Chessington.

THE 2008 CYBERDOSH SAS ELITE CHALLENGE
Earning extra dosh online is the theme of the 2008 challenge and, if you have been keeping a diary, you may have noticed that today marked exactly one fifth of the way through the year of 2008. I set my personal target at £3000 for this challenge and, after great deliberation, eventually decided to split it into 3 main sources for my cyberdoshing: - £1000 via eBid online auctions, £1000 via online cashback, vouchers and winnings and £1000 in web-based commissions via the website. At the one fifth mark, anyone with a 3000 target should have a score of 600. Without a word of a lie, I have just tallied mine up and, until now, was completly unaware of my own personal score. To my utter disbelief, it is 690!!! I must keep up the momentum and, to avoid failing in this challenge, have set the next target as the quarterly stage, in 21 days time! I must increase my 'score' to 750 to stay on target.

If anyone feels compelled to post their progress reports, feel free to do so here. I know there are around 60 people participating in the 2008 challenge and there are about 140 participating in the 'Live on £4000 for a year' challenge, so it would be really nice to hear from some of you.

I'm off now to celebrate my 'one fifth' success. I can't believe I'm only £40 short of having hit £10 per day!! I'm glad that I set my target at £3000 and not the £3660 I was considering!

During the YDC 52 charity event via the eBid online auctions, we managed to raise £22 for the Wigtownshire branch of Save the Children through sales of donated items of jewellery. Many thanks to all who took part and we look forward to seeing you all again next month for YDC 53. The event will begin on Friday 28th March at 6pm when listing of items starts.

Playing the cashback game works!

http://www.greasypalm.co.uk/r/?l=367899 I can now happily confirm that recent research into the potential for dosh making via cashback really does work. Having tried the above, which instantly credits your account with £2.50 for signing up, the first payment has now arrived in the bank to the tune of just over £185. Not bad for a first attempt. So what's next?

We are now trying out a few more similar sites to see if we can achieve similar results. Firstly, you can sign up to http://www.freefivers.co.uk/register.php?n=170318 and receive £5 instantly. I have added this link to favourite places as it credits a few pence daily just for doing a couple of price comparisons.

A completely new one to us is http://www.TopCashBack.co.uk/Cyberdosh/ref/index.htm where you can recruit friends and be credited 50p - why not join now and we'll get 50p to help cover the costs of maintaining our website and newsletters? The above link is also the site that's offering £150 cashback on Sky, as highlighted on TV last week. It means you can have Sky and Broadband for just £6 per month for the first 12 months!

DON'T FORGET THE YDC CHARITY AUCTIONS THIS MONTH!

Attention eBidders! Don't forget that this weekend sees the start of the February YDC charity auctions. This month, in addition to the Braveheart Childrens' Trust, NYK Media will be listing a collection of jewellery and small items on behalf of the Wigtownshire branch of 'Save the Children'.
We'll be offering writers the chance to take part in our 'Fileas Frog' book project, plus we have, once again, the opportunity to list the 'Mystical Dream Maker', made internationally famous by it's continued journey throughout the UK. More on that this coming weekend, when listing of items begins at 6pm on Friday 22nd February, continuing until midnight sunday, will all items open to bids for the period of one week.

If you aren't a seller, please consider placing a few bids in aid of whichever charities will be represented. You can find out more by going to http://www.scottishwebauction.co.uk which is our dedicated charity auctions site.

CYBERDOSH & FRUGAL LIFESTYLES

As I have no way of knowing how many of you on here are actually participating in this year's 'Live on £4000 for a year' challenge, I thought it best if I updated you through this link. The interest in budget living and 'frugalism' has been phenomenal, with over 100,000 visits to our challenge thread on the money saving expert site over the past 2 months and 135 individuals signed up as willing participants.

Now, however, I would like to open this thread up to an on-going 'raging' debate that has sprung up in the wake of a current episode of the Channel Four show, 'Wife Swap'. The episode in question involved Debbie (wife of a millionaire businessman) and Sue (a Freegan and practicing Jesus Christian)swapping places for the fortnight and experiencing one another's lifestyles. I will not voice my personal opinions on either lifestyle just yet, although I will say that the show did well to emphasise the everyday 'waste' when showing the contents of bags retrieved from supermarket bins. I know it brought a gasp in our household when the 'Maltesers' went back when all that was wrong was a tear in the outer packaging. How wasteful are your local stores? (I have been reliably informed that Lidl actually gives away surplus food just before closing time and that several of our 4k challengers have already taken advantage of this fact).

Surprisingly, when the issues of what's known as 'Freegan living' were brought up on Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert site, the topic met with some shamelessly negative responses that somehow dragged religion and 'the taxpayer' to the forefront and focussed, mainly, on whether or not retrieving items from a bin is theft that should be punishable by the courts. Strange, but true. Anyway, those discussions were halted in their tracks when the entire thread was deleted/banned and certain active participants given indefinite bans from the forums!

We now invite you to post your own comments right here about what you think of Freeganism, as opposed to Frugalism. Having been a part of the online debate, I did read all the comments posted. Sue (from Wife Swap), with whom I have been in contact, is more than willing to be interviewed for a future article in 'Now You Know' and I would like to invite you all to submit your questions here. I feel that the subjects of waste, the environment and consumerism all warrant discussion here as they are all part and parcel of what cyberdosh is about - earning, spending and saving online. We can't save the entire planet but we can discuss, in a virtual sense, what we are all doing as part of our daily lives.

If you prefer to post anonymously, please visit www.cyberdosh.com and then go to the 'messageboards' section. This will avoid your email being posted straight to this forum.

I will eagerly await any response.

Please consider doing your daily clicks at www.thehungersite.com It's our first port of call every day :)

Update on the Cashback money making game: here is the link to join free if you missed it - http://www.greasypalm.co.uk/r/?l=367899

Further to the recent bulletin relating to the cashback that can be made via the above site, I am pleased to confirm that the Nat West home insurance cashback offer IS a genuine offer and it DOES pay out. Having just taken out a new home contents policy, the full £70 cashback has now been credited. I have to admit that I was surprised at this as I had assumed that it would be £70 for combined house and contents insurance, however I was wrong. I bought contents only and they still paid the entire amount. That brings this month's total, so far, to £182 and there are still nine more days to go until the end of the month.

If anyone decides to try greasing their palms with cashback, please let us know how you are doing. I am updating the webpage at http://www.scottishmultimedia.co.uk/earn.htm to record our findings on various spare cash making schemes so feel free to bookmark the page.

UPDATE ON THE 4K PER YEAR CHALLENGE
There are now a total of 122 people registered as part NYK Media's 'Live on £4000 for a year' challenge over on the moneysavingexpert site. If you haven't yet investigated and are not familiar with Martin Lewis, then tune in to Channel 5 on Wednesday nights at 7.30pm where 'It Pays to Watch'. Shaving pounds off your grocery budgets, claiming back unfair bank and credit card charges, reclaiming payment protection insurance, keeping chickens, switching your soap powder for soap nuts, becoming a credit card tart and 'stoozing' at 2.5% interest from a credit card to bank it high interest at 6.41% are just a few of the things being done right now by serious dosh lovers both online and off. Believe it or not, we've even got a group on there pursuing the free hobby of papier mache after introducing all and sundry to 'Phil the Pig' and 'Penny Penguin'. All going well, you should be able to see those happy characters at http://www.philthepig.co.uk which is a brand new website in the making. In true Cyberdosh fashion, the site was FREE to register, it's FREE to build (it's a work in progress) and I also got a few loyalty points for registering to join - FREE!

For anyone within the Wigtownshire area, don't forget that you can use your Cyberdosh card to claim a 10% discount on all your beauty treatments at 'Mirror, Mirror Beauty' in Hair Do's, South Main Street, Wigtown. Just quote your card number when booking and present card when paying.

CYBERDOSH SAVERS

So far, so good - how is your 2008 Cyberdosh Challenge going?

As part of the 'Live on £4000 for a year' challenge group, I would just like to say that I am absolutely delighted by the response for 2008. Right now, there are 121 challengers battling it out to stay within their annual budgets, and 'phase 2' of the project has already kicked into play, with many opting to go one step further and attempt to earn an extra £10 PER DAY through Internet transactions (cyberdoshing). Being sceptical, I refused to believe this was possible without selling goods or services. To earn an extra £10 over and above everything else, EVERY DAY, seemed impossible! I have been well and truly proven wrong!

How is it possible to earn £10 from nothing every day for a month? Or a year?! We decided to find out and began by registering with the following http://www.greasypalm.co.uk/r/?l=367899 The link will take you to what is called Greasypalm. Since 1st January 2008, I have managed to raise over £110 using this site alone! NEVER pay full price for anything. ALWAYS look for discounts and always expect cashback - don't be scared to have a little fun along the way.

Household insurance - check your renewal dates and use Greasypalm to claim cashback. In some cases, the cashback has been almost as much as the policy itself!

Credit cards - time to make sure you are making the most of 0% interest for balance transfers and cashback wherever it's available - apply for your new card and get up to £22.50 cashback. Tried and tested - it works! £22.50 paid out. There are people transferring balances everywhere right now for as little as 2.5% and then stashing all that cash in high interest accounts paying over 6% interest. even if it's only and extra £25-30 per year earned, it is another 10p per day off your £10. Not looking quite so impossible now, is it? And we haven't even started on sales via personal websiytes or the likes of eBid, eBay, GreenMetropolis, Amazon or Play.com

Gambling - we never advocate gambling except in extraordinary circumstances. As an example - we signed up for Jackpotjoy through the Greasypalm account, paid in £10 and THEY PAID US £21 by way of a thank you for signing up in the first place! What's more, they also met the stake money, which meant another £10 to 'play' with and, to my utter amazement, this turned into £65 within about 15 minutes. DON'T FORGET TO QUIT WHILE YOU'RE AHEAD. Withdraw the winnings, bank them and hey presto - a clear profit just for registering to play some games. They don't allow you to withdraw the 'free' stakemoney, so make sure you play throw enough to withdraw all your winnings. There are several sites similar to this one that allows you to do the same. Fee cash is never to be scoffed at no matter how little it may first appear to be.

By simply clicking through a few links, completing a few surveys, sorting out credit cards and playing a few games, we looks set to hit £200 this month alone. I was aiming for £135.50 because that would mean this year's television license is bought & paid for in full. Instead, it looks like I've cyberdoshed enough to pay the TV license AND the home insurance!

Don't forget to use this link > http://www.greasypalm.co.uk/r/?l=367899 < and help to support Cyberdosh.

Next target - does anyone reading this bulletin smoke? Cutting down by 5 cigarettes per day amounts to a saving of around £500 over the year! That's like earning a minimum £1.12 per day if you smoke one of the cheapest brands and leaves only £8.88 left to make it £10. (This could be known as the 888 challenge.)

On top of that there will be the www.eBid.net sales, so it is not too difficult to see how a few hours spent at your computer searching for dosh online can amount to over £300 a month. Top that up with freebies, a few competition entries and making the most of bargains as they become available is really setting you off in the right direction. Now, all we need are some sales.

PS: I've found www.hotukdeals.com to be a great site for bargain news and www.dialwise.co.uk will save you a fortune on International phone calls.

Don't forget to post any deals you may spot right here on the boards for us all to share. I recommend you visit www.cyberdosh.com and click through to 'messageboards' rather than respond by email.

More updates soon. Until then, have a great cyberdoshing time.

WELCOME TO THE CYBERDOSH CHALLENGE 2008

You will receive these news bulletins via email if you subscribed free to Cyberdosh.

Hello and welcome Cyberdoshers.

January 2008 is well and truly here and, to make things interesting, we are asking each member to take part in this simple, introductory challenge to help kick off 2008.

Most of us are here for a reason - we want to earn more money or we want to save more money. For some, we want to do both!

In 2007, we officially introduced the 'Live on £4000' challenge, which was a great success. Owing to that success, the same challenge was re-issued on the 17th December 2007 via www.moneysavingexpert.com where it now has it's own section in the forums and, amazingly, it has attracted 111 eager participants for 2008. That challenge has been visited 44,765 times, to date, within the space of luss than 3 weeks! You can keep up to date with those 'frugal living' folks by going to http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=640131
(Don't forget to watch Martin Lewis at his best on Wednesday evening, Channel 5, at 7.30pm - watch out for those money saving expert challengers on TV!)

For those of you who are hoping to increase your income, increase business turnover or generally seek out new potential ways to earn more in 2008 we have a nice, simple, introductory challenge for you and it starts immediately. The object is to select items you have for sale with a cost value of no more than £10. It could be £10 worth of existing stock, it could be items gathered up from around the house during a decluttering exercise or it could even be items you picked up at a local charity shop or jumble sale. To make it more interesting, you could even make your own items, so long as the overall cost does not exceed £10. Why £10? Well, we are challenging you to sell them online and to make it fair, we would like everyone to start off on a level playing field. It doesn't matter how many items you have in total, but at the end of the challenge your final sales total will be reduced by £10 to calculate profit. Once you have selected/purchased/found or made your items, we are challenging you to sell them online by midnight 31st January 2008.

Once organised, list your items on this messageboard along with links to wherever you are selling them so we can link them to our Cyberdosh 'special offers' page. If you have never attempted to sell online before, you can try it free by using the 'Sell Online' button at the right hand side of http://www.cyberdosh.com main page.

This is our 'winter warm-up' exercise and we'll be including all contenders and results in the newsletter.

Good luck and please feel free to ask any questions here.

Happy New Year to everyone!!! Or as they say in New Zealand...Happy New Year everyone!!!!
McDade here! Well 2008 is here and what will it bring you?

For me so far it has brought me a hell of a hangover spree. Studying for exams. Long hair, nice skin thanks to my clinique products for men bought for me by my lovely girlfriend Gillian.

Still to come for me in 2008: Moving into my new flat on 9th Feb due to repairs to the flat. i would have been in by now. Going to see the legendary Frankie Boyle in Kilmarnock Grand Hall on February 15th. Going to London to see Phantom of the Opera on 29th February with Gillian. Then off for 10 days to the maldives in may with Gillian. Then in september i am off to see the Mighty Boosh Live. Also a divorce, a house sale and a custody battle will be in the post too no doubt.

Until then, this is your roving reporter mcdade saying "chikachikaaaaooowww!"

Happy New Year!

I've just finished working out my total sales on eBid over the past 12 months and while pleasantly surprised, I've realised I'm going to have to put in a lot of work to hit my target for the SAS Challenge.

My SAS target for 2008 is to increase my turnover on eBid 300%.

If anyone wants to help me reach my target while making ridiculous savings on quality jewellery, you can find my shop here CMEJewellery. My January sale is now on and you can save an extra 25% on all purchases paid for by Google Checkout, bank transfer, cheque or postal order.

WE WON!

As you all know, I always recommend the use of Martin Lewis' website and have several threads on there pertaining to various challenges. I recently pointed out to all Cyberdoshers that last year's challenge - Live on £4000 - has been carried over to 2008 because of the demand. Well, I have just found out that the 'Live on £4000 a Year Challenge' discussion forum has been chosen as THE DEBT FREE WANNABE CHAT OF THE WEEK! This also means that it was included in Martin's weekly money tip newsletter, so I am expecting to see several more new 'players' in this particular money 'game' very soon.

The following is a link to this week's newsletter, which is a great source of information. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips/28-12-2007/

NYK Media is delighted that so many people have found the subject interesting and special thanks to the other 44 challengers who have made it possible to have 'chat of the week' bestowed upon us by the great moneysaver himself, Martin Lewis.

Back to business - have you completed your budget charts and are you prepared to 'come out' as a Cyberdosher just yet?

Cyberdosh Challenge 2008 Update

Please do not respond to this message via email. Instead, you should go via the www.cyberdosh.com website and click the messageboards link. Thank you.

Well, that's Christmas Day been and gone, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and had a relaxing 'Boxing Day'.

The challenge preparations are really hotting up now and interest is still growing. We now have 34 members signed up to participate in the SAS Elite Challenge and 45 signed up to take part in the 'Live for £4000 a year' challenge, which has been carried on from 2007 because of demand.

eBid online auction members will be able to follow the progress of the selling challenge on site at www.ebid.net in the 'Promote eBid and eBid Stores' section of the forums plus there is a special thread in the www.moneysavingexpert.com forums dedicated entirely to living on £4000 for the year. Owing to family circumstances, such as numbers of adults and children per household, allowances have been made, with the top challenge target set, so far, at £6,500. The vast majority have opted for a budget of £4000 excluding rent/mortgage, council tax/water rates and essential work-related travel.

As explained before, the Cyberdosh SAS Elite Challenge entails setting your own target figure of what extra amount you are aiming to earn or save between 1st January and 31st December 2008. As an example, the following is the basis for my own entry into this challenge:

Generate an extra £3000 of new business/sales from nothing. I have allowed myself start-up costs of £50 but will need to recoup the £50 before contributing towards my target figure.

I'll be making everything available for sale via the eBid online auctions by utilising their free to list, fee free selling options. All promotions, merchandising and advertising will need to be generated free of charge if it is for the purposes of generating extra dosh. No mean feat, I can assure you.

If you already have a business running or are already employed, then your aim should be to increase your income by whatever means you think possible or to reduce your outgoings in order to save your target amount. This is to enable those people who are already in fulltime employment to take part in all that 2008 has to offer. Hopefully, those offering items for sale will be able to help those who are trying to save, by having their products included in our newsletters and made available to other REGISTERED Cyberdosh members at a discounted price.

That's about it for this update. Make sure you have your budgets and other calculations done before New Year and HAVE FUN!

Feel free to post your aims, targets, progress on the messageboards for others to share in your successes and offer moral support when it's needed.

GOOD LUCK! There are no winners or losers in this challenge, only those with a will to succeed.

Please do not respond to this news bulletin via email. You are receiving this because you registered via Cyberdosh.

Merry Christmas from Cyberdosh

It won't be long now before it's out with the old and in with the new, then all good Cyberdoshers know that it's the beginning of a brand new challenge. Hopefully, those of you who have followed previous challenges are getting to grips with their savings and their income targets.

I'm delighted to say that over 50 individuals have already opted to follow the 2008 SAS Elite Challenge and there will also be a repeat of the 2007, "Live on £4000 for a Year" Challenge. For anyone participating in both, it could mean a double whammy where their finances are concerned.

Anyone who is new to the wacky Cyberdosh challenges should also consider visiting the Money Saving Expert website, as this is where the 'Live on £4000 a year' challenge has been issued. The thread was started on the 17th December and has already generated 35 willing participants, most setting their targets on the £4,000 and others making allowances for larger families. For NYK, the target remains at £4000. You can follow the antics of that challenge at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=640131

Meanwhile, we will do our best to keep you up to date with progress here and hopefully tempt someone, somewhere, to take the plunge and actually post on this forum! Remember, it's the SAS Elite Challenge for 2008. You need to set your own target for earnings, extra earnings or savings and then run your 'campaign' with the aim of succeeding by 31/12/2008

Over on the eBid online auction site, we have seen many ideas thrashed out for marketing and advertising suggestions, all of which can be utilised by individual sellers. What ideas do YOU have? How would YOU go about setting up a new enterprise? How would YOU go about generating new business and new income? To find out more about the bargain buying and selling opportunities on eBid, check out www.ebid.net

As we prepare to set out on our 2008 journey, anything that is made available through NYK Media will also be made available for sale through the Cyberdosh online stores. As a member of Cyberdosh, you will be entitled to various discounts when using your Cyberdosh Membership Card. The final batch of cards are now ready and will be with you before New Year. Each carries a barcode that can be used anywhere you see the PayPoint sign. For anyone interested in accepting PayPoint cash payments through their new or existing online business, we can recommend www.credecard.com

There was no printed newsletter in December, but watch out for the first of the next 10 editions in January. Registered members will receive their copies in the post and, as always, advertising slots will be available to book online through our Cyberdosh store. For Cyberdosh cardholders there will be extra discounts, promotions and the chance of some 'freebies' when you choose to use your card.

There isn't a great deal more I can say about next year's Cyberdosh venture other than we hope you enjoy being a part of it and to wish you every success in achieving whatever goals you may set yourselves.

Watch out for those 2008 Cyberdosh cards dropping through your doors between now and the 31st December 2007.

Merry Christmas to all!

CYBERDOSH CRAZY CHRISTMAS BARGAIN

I'm offering a brand new digital MP3 / MP4 player at the insane price of £1 NO RESERVE in this wacky Cyberdosh auction listing! Check it out at http://www.cyberdosh.com
It's 100% genuine and it's especially for Christmas bargain hunters, but there is only one! and it's PINK.

There are just so many downloads and we need all the available 'artillery' to round them up, patrol them and save them ready for our lugs to savour that audio flavour and our eyes to feast on those visual delights! Ok, that's a load of codswallop, but the MP3/MP4 player for £1 is right enough because, apparently, I'm a bit mad and love to practically give things away.

Anyway, the other reason I'm offering this crazy bid bargain is because I would LOVE "I Fought the Lloyds" music video by Oystar, featuring Martin Lewis, to make it into the charts in January! This is my way of ensuring you can carry it with you and play it to your bank manager next time he or she harrasses you about charges... It's the bank charge protest song and it's taking the nation by storm!! :)

CYBERDOSH 2008 CHALLENGE PRELIMINARY NOTES

We're working furiously preparing for the next big Cyberdosh challenge. For anyone who is serious about taking part, we recommend that you download the free Cyberdosh cash sheet to enable you to work out your own target figures for the 2008 challenge.

We have now uploaded the new, very simple to use, 2008 spreadsheet. This is also available on site at www.cyberdosh.com
It has been preset at £4,000, which was the figure we were dealing with throughout 2007. This figure can be changed ONLY once you have calculated your own budget via the above mentioned cash sheet and set your target. At that point, you simply change the £4,000 figure in the top left hand box (under January) and save the changes to your own computer. The document has been loaded as an excel spreadsheet, which should automatically calculate the balance of what you need to earn to meet your target as you progress throughout the coming year. It is based on a day to day turnover. This spreadsheet can be used either to calculate spending on a budget, as was this year's challenge, or for calculating how much you need to earn each week to succeed in achieving your personal goal. All you need to do is alter the top left figure in January for it to reset to your chosen target figure. Do not alter any other numbers in any of the coloured boxes.

If at all possible, have your cash sheet completed before the end of December so you are ready to begin afresh on 1st January with the brand new challenge. If you have any questions relating to Cyberdosh or the templates, please post them in this forum. These messages automatically go out to the people registered to receive them, but anyone can join in the discussions at any time and the world has access to this forum. If you would prefer to keep your email address confidential, then visit the boards rather than post questions or responses via email.

Remember... this is only the beginning. If you have chosen to join us in this, some may say bizarre, challenge, then be prepared! Everything is not always as it seems. The only thing that is guaranteed is the fact that this challenge is about making money.

Website at www.cyberdosh.com
It's not too late to join us and joining is free, so what have you got to lose?

Cyberdosh 2008 Challenge

Dear Cyberdosh fans, friends and financial wizards,

As we fast approach the year's end, we have only 5 weeks left until 2008. I think it's time to explain about the next challenge. But first, let me say that the 2007 challenge being documented by Shona Prophett is on target, so it looks as though it is perfectly achieveable to live on £4,000 per year (excluding mortgage/rent and council tax).

2008 is going to be different because it isn't as simple as tightening up the purse strings and living on a budget. The 2008 Challenge is probably much more difficult because it is about finding innovative new ways to INCREASE your income. In fact, next year's challenge is, without a doubt, the most difficult we have ever set. (For new members, you should be aware that we have been organising similar challenges since 1999.)
We already know that it's possible to live on £4,000 for a year, so let's see how much of that you can actually raise from scratch. There are no golden rules, it is a case of implementing your own plan of action and documenting it as you go. To get you started, it is probably easiest if you look out your old budget sheets, or download a new one from www.cyberdosh.com and that way you'll be able to work out how much more you NEED to earn or how much more you WANT to earn.
There will be updates posted here with hints and suggestions and it would be nice to think that someone may pluck up the courage to add their own comments, thoughts or progress reports. There are many other sites providing similar facilities and concepts but I can guarantee you that Cyberdosh is unique!

Owing to our own involvement with eBid online auctions (www.ebid.net), we run a Cyberdosh thread in their forums. There's also a thread on Martin Lewis' money saving expert website, called 'up your income'.

This entire Cyberdosh project will be open to the scrutiny of anyone who ventures onto any of the associated websites. The whole concept is to 'UP' your income by a pre-set amount, which will be your target figure for the year. The challenge is aimed at the self employed, new start businesses, and homeworkers.
YOU decide what YOUR target is going to be.
WE will provide you with as much FREE help and support as can be mustered. WE will be providing FREE advertising for our active members via our web site and the printed monthly newsletters.
YOU will need to provide the information and evidence that you really ARE trying to increase your earnings, because we'll all be featuring our own running totals on site.
As an example, my personal target is £3,000 by 31st December 2008 but I have already generated £12 towards this total whilst running an online trial. My running total appears as £12/£3000.
It is also worth noting that you can include this progress figure in your MSE forum signatures.

We have now printed the first of the Cyberdosh discount cards, so there should be one w
