My son & his wife & daughter have been residents of Ga. since Jan.07.His wife stole his daughter after her 2nd b'day. She went to La. with her family on a pretense of a visit. My son contacted the FBI & police right away.He hired an att. first an got exparte. She filed for divorce after being in La.less than 2 wks;thereby breaking the La.Divorce Law.She was given a judgement in less than 2 mos. However she got legally served by Ga.Nov.29,08.Still it has been over 300 days since my son has seen his little girl. There is the Federal PKPA Act out there which local law enforcement is bound by law to enforce. However the system seems to be unbalanced.Good fathers are being alienated from their children for years at a time.My son does not do drugs or drink alcohol. He was not abusive. His wife was committing adultery & other things including conspiring with her adulterer against my son.I have a lot of evidence in print. My son continues to pay a house note & mort.ins. in both their names. He sends his daughter mo. packages. He continually pays an att. in a quest for child custody. His wife comes from a divorce family. The mother & grandma are divorcees. They have law enforcement connections in that parish. So when my son told his mother-in-law what his wife was doing she hurried up & used tactics to keep my son away from his child.

I had lost faith in the American people when they elected this democratic president and then when they allowed the rushing through the stimulus bill without reading it and just throwing money away. I thought we were doomed, at best to a socialist type of government, and even a dictatorship type of government. Here lately my faith has been restored in the American people when they stood up to the this wild government and stopped it from taking away all our rights. Thanks for renewing my faith. The fight is not over so we must not let our guard down. There are things that must be reversed, like reversing the closing of the Guantanamo prison, removing the automotive industry form government control, removing all these special commissioners that have unlimited powers and straighten the banking system. Lets keep the ball rolling while we are at it and don't even blink. Now may be a good time to start straightening our out of control government. If we keep up the good works come next election and then the next we can possibly get some good people and keep renewing them instead of letting them get over confident and thinking they can control you. If we keep the pressure we may get them to live by the same rules we live by. Don't let your guard down. Thanks!!

Hi everyone. There's a new local community website called the LafayetteGrapevine, www.lafayettegrapevine.com, that has just about everything - basically the best of craigslist, youtube, myspace and facebook, along with a lot more, like grocery store coupons, recipes, movie listings, gas prices, a business directory, forums, local, national, world and offbeat news, lottery, horoscopes, a calendar of events ... well I could go on and on. The best thing is it is all local stuff, free and user generated by our local community. Check out www.lafayettegrapevine.com

Louisiana May Mandate Fluoridation Despite Evidence of Harm New York June 2 -- Ignoring scientific evidence of harm, and without constituten involvement, the Louisiana State Senate passed a fluoridation mandate bill which, if approved by the House, will require fluoride chemicals be added to most of Louisianas public water supplies ostensibly to reduce tooth decay. (The Advocate, 5/29/08) (1) The Louisiana House will vote on this bill on Thursday, February 12, 2008 However, a 2006 review of fluoride toxicology literature conducted by the prestigious National Research Council (NRC) reveals that ingested fluoride, even at low levels used for fluoridation, poses risks to infants, diabetics, kidney patients, high water drinkers and those with low thyroid function. Many cities are stopping fluoridation. (2) Sadly, fluoridation proponents orchestrated and paid for a slick but inaccurate PR campaign. As a result legislators have only heard one side of the story, says Paul Connett, PhD, Executive Director, Fluoride Action Network. Connett urges Louisianans to contact their House representatives to stop the money-wasting fluoridation mandate at http://la.fluoridealert.org , or call their representative at 225-342-6945. With American Dental Association funding, the Louisiana Dental Association (LDA) hired public relations and lobbying firms to promote fluoridation, according to the Journal of the Louisiana Dental Association (Winter 2007). (3) In October 2007, the National Kidney Foundation withdrew its position paper on fluoridation to re-evaluate available literature. Yet, they are listed under Louisianas Healthy Smiles Coalition as favoring fluoridation. (4) Fluoridation proponents always pull out a dubious laundry list of supporters virtually none of which have revisited their position since the groundbreaking NRC report was published, says Connett.. Despite 60 years of fluoridation, no US research has ever studied fluoridations effect on many disorders such as arthritis, underactive thyroid, childrens lower IQ and bone fractures, or Alzheimers disease, says Connett. The NRC reports babies are fluoride-overdosed and risk dental fluorosis (discolored teeth) from optimal fluoridation levels (approximately 1 part per million). Consequently, both the American Dental Association (5) and the Centers for Disease Control (6) advise against mixing formula with fluoridated water. Fluoridated water is actually 250 times higher than the level in mothers milk (0.004 ppm), says Connett. Parents who bottle feed their babies using fluoridated tap water, will dose their babies with 250 times more fluoride than nature intended. Over 1,700 professionals urge Congress to stop water fluoridation and conduct hearings, citing the new scientific evidence that fluoridation is ineffective and has serious health risks. I got a letter to the editor from an inmate in Georgia who was convicted of a nonviolent crime. He was born in Broussard and at the age of three his parents, Barbara and Thomas Henley, moved to Florida. Shortly thereafter both of them were killed in a boating accident and their son, Thomas Bruce Henley, grew up in foster care. He's desperately looking for any relatives in this area, anyone that may have known his mother and father. Can anyone help this man? I'm going to print a notice in the paper but want to get the word out any way I can.

How about this one? A local non-profit organization asked for a large piece of equipment to be built by a small, local, family company in Youngsville. This local company asked for money for supplies only and offered his labor for FREE. Well, this piece of equipment normally would have sold for six-thousand dollars or probably even MORE, but the local company, out of the kindness of his heart, only asked for $1,800.00 for supplies. Now remember, FREE labor. The local company said he would try to have this equipment built by January of 2007. Time passed and the project was worked on as the company owner had the time. Needless, to say he had a family to feed and bills to pay and the project was put on the back burner. It would be worked on little by little, and he had help from time to time from others volunteering. Well, about six months went by and the project still wasn't completed. The equipment is almost done except for a few things that aren't complete. In the mean time this local company was and is struggling so much to get by, that he had to close his company and get a job to put food on the table. He got his phone cut off and even the electricity. Here is the exciting part. This local man was home on a Sunday afternoon and received a letter from the non-profit organization, written by a lawyer, stating that they were going to sue if the equipment wasn't built in a week and that the non-profit organization couldn't get in touch with the local man. (HIS PHONE WAS SHUT OFF B/C HE COULDN'T PAY THE BILL dummies!) Now let's remember that the local company volunteered his time for FREE!! Is this non-profit organization going to put food on this man's table, take care of his children and make sure the electricity is paid while he works day and night to build this project for FREE!!! Give me a break people. What is wrong with this picture?

I think what he's saying is that there's more crime in impoverished areas, which is right. The other point is that Youngsville has different problems than the North side of Lafayette because of this. Also, the problems they do have are not high profile. Right? Many of the incidents that occur in Broussard are related to Hwy 90--the other accidents, arrests, etc. are mostly small-town stuff.

With all due respect a 200,000 dollar home is not considered HIGH DOLLAR these days. This is a typical family home being built in all areas of Lafayette Parish and surounding areas. It is impossible to compare Youngsvile to a certain area of Lafayette. This is not apples to apples or even close. The problems the Northside has have been there for many many years. Just my two cents worth!!

someone compaired youngsville to the northside and the fact that the police department must being doing something right bc it would be like the northside. so im saying is it lafayette police fault that the northside has a high crime rate, no. Youngsville is new, high dollar, etc etc. low income area's have higher crime rates. is there crime in youngsville, sure but it's mostly DWI's and Domestic Abuse. youngsville police only patrols one person and maybe 2 at night sometimes. lafayette sheriff's assist the police dept and is there back up and handle all major calls.

the crime in youngsville is due to the high end community that is being built. only people that can afford 200k homes go to youngsville. you hear about broussard, yes bc they have 90, but because decou and the police dept play an active role in the community and being a part of it.

Broussard also has a stretch of HWY 90 they patrol. There are a lot of accidents we get on HWY 90. Therefore a lot of publicity right there. A lot more businesses than youngsville aswell, meaning more targets for criminals. Neither city is a bad place to live. Both cities have a great community and excellent people. Youngsville PD must be doing their job even though we don't hear about them much, or else Youngsville would be like the North side of Lafayette. That is just my thoughts on it.

The police dept. have many good men and women on the force. They are very good at their jobs. I hope this helps with your question.

I hear good things about the Youngsville schools. I don't really know anything about the public Broussard schools. We live in the Milton school district. Two of my children went from K-8 to Milton. Great school also. My youngest is still going to Milton. Milton is about 6 to 8 miles from Youngsville. I believe Milton is the only public school that still has k-8 in Lafayette parish. The only private school that I'm familiar with is St. Cecilia in Broussard. I hear great things about it. My husband attended that school a long time ago!! Good luck

I would beg to differ about the public schools being on par? The highest rating any school in this area got was a 2 star rating. They are on par as far as public schools go but 2 out of 4 is pretty weak. They are your kids so of course the choice is yours.

They need to make overpasses at all of the red lights on highway 90. The red lights make traffic horrible. If there were overpasses then traffic would be smooth sailing, and there would be less angry drivers. A major highway shouldn't have stop lights every five seconds. The red light prolong my trip to school by at least 15 minutes. If overpasses are too expensive then they should have caution light warning drivers that the light is about to turn red. You can't stop in two seconds going 60 mph. I think the overpasses may come true (if they ever make 90 into I-49).

Does anyone know whether or not the City of Broussard will reimburse business owners on Eola if they decide to go forward with the name change?

Does anybody know what the name of the new subdivision on the corner of Morgan and E Fairfield is? It is directly behind Deer Meadow. I would like to find out what the property values are and who is building the new homes out there. Any information is appreciated.

Wal-Mart is still stalling over drainage issues, and Home Depot will sign before them, according to Billeaud Companies.

Yes - like a normal bakery - baklava, and I personally love those petit fours. They are like little cakes. I ordered a cake there - it was good but whew - mighty sweet! :-)
I try not to think about the impending Wal-Mart.

I have to send KUDOS to the new bakery on Morgan and 2nd. It compliments nicely across the street from Nash's and the cakes are fantastic!

Has anybody heard if Walmart has signed the deal yet? Seems to be taken a while. What do you guys think? I see some progress at that corner, is that just drainage?

Yes, but if Youngsville takes Daigle's offer, doesn't it seem almost like a bribe? If I give you this, then when I need something...
You're right, though, the property value will be very high.

I think from what the Gazzette paper said, Walmart,Homedept are going to be next to eachother? Yes I think they should take Daigle's offer. Why not it is free and imagine the value of that property in 10 years. I also heard a Chili's is coming??

Wal-Mart is definitely coming. They're negotiating some drainage issues with the city of Broussard. I think Home Depot wanted the same land as Wal-Mart. As for Target, not sure about that one. Maybe they're going to Youngsville. Do you think Youngsville should take Robert Daigle's offer? Seems iffy to me.

I believe there will be a strip shopping center on the corner of Hwy 90 and Morgan Avenue. It will be developed by Quinn Ducharme and will have a variety of shops and possibly a bank.

I think the growth is amazing. Did you read where there's a medical plaza coming at the corner of Hwy 90 and Morgan? It's unbelievable. I think the growth is good--but we're going to lose some essential in the process. Serenity. Country living. Quiet. Don't you think?

What does everybody think about all the growth coming to this area? Property values are at an all time high and Broussard is booming. Are we ready for this?
