Jeep Fuel / Carb Problem.

I have a 1990 Jeep YJ. It was running ok until yesterday. It wont start. It turns over and will even run for 30 seconds if I add fuel to the carb. I think either the infamous Carter carb has gone bad or there is some problem with the fuel supply to the carb. Is there a fuel pump that could have gone bad?

Please email your advise to SNMRAD@aol.com. Thank you.

It appears that I'm just one in a bunch of guys with this carb problem. I bought an '88 YJ with a "rebuilt" engine last May and the thing was fine driving around town, but had to go 400 miles from home 5 months ago and it sh!t the bed on me! After $1400 and some guy telling me that it was good to go I'm still having the same problem I had before some other stuff left me on the side of the highway in west Texas... the engine seems to bog down when I put it in 1st and 2nd gears. If I start it cold it pretty much starts right up, but if I went 5 minutes down the road, turned it off to get gas, and then try to start it back up... no dice. I'm at my wit's end, because the other day basically left me wondering what to do when all the "tricks" that I had been using to keep it running failed and it basically stalled out on me right around the corner from my house. The only way I have figured out how to start it is to hold what I think is the throttle wide open. It takes a couple of seconds, but usually works. After that it's a crap shoot. Please, any suggestions or advice would be great... I feel like a sucker for buyin' the thing, but if there's a relatively inexpensive solution to the problem I'm willing to give it a shot. Thanks.

I have a 89 jeep wrangler with the carter bbd carb. Is there a replacement for this carb that is legal? I know some people go to a Howell injection system but that is not in the budget at this time. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

This Jeep Wrangler fan needs help. Does anyone have any advice for him?

Hi,
....that damned Carburetor. My buddy has a 1989 YJ (Canadian model) which means that is 'polution controlled' to near death. The Carb, or at least all that controlling it is driving us nowhere but nuts. It is one sun of a gun to start in cold weather and then to keep it running at idle is next to impossible.
I am the guy who has got to try to get this fixed, so I'm asking you if you have any idea how to do this. Even if it means replacing that o.e.m. Carb. and replacing it with an aftermarket unit, like , say a Weber kit no K-551 ?
Is this the way to go. And what about all the 'stock' hoses, wires etc. dcan you tell me how to dissconnect these and disgard them without totalling fooling up the 4.2 engine.
I really need some help in this, I'm a pretty fair 'shade tree mechanic, but I am NOT a professional, which means I can almost anything with a Jeep, provided that I get the proper and correct information.
Can you help me. I sure would appreciate any help.

If you can help with this issue, please email me: J@MyJeepWrangler.com or reply to this post.
